The True MVP of ROBOTICS;NOTES? The Sexual Harassment Parakeet. ROBOTICS;NOTES is the third mainline entry into the SciAdv (Science Adventure Series) visual novel series. Unlike its predecessors, the story of R;N offers a laid back, light mystery story about highschoolers trying to build a comically large robot. What's not to love? Well, if you're just getting off the absolute roller coasters that are CHAOS;HEAD NOAH and STEINS;GATE, R;N can feel like a bit of a tone shift, but not an entirely unwelcome one. It's nice having a story that isn't completely insane from beginning to end that leaves you gripping your seat, cringing, wincing, or crying the entire time. This is definitely beneficial for those who are planning on continuing their SciAdv journey afterwards, as this entry "cleanses the palate" before you're thrown head first into CHAOS;CHILD. That being said, this entry took me the longest to complete due to me periodically spacing out from the lack of engagement. The arcs, however, are great. The entirety of the first chapter was very entertaining, and I loved the hobby robot tournament from beginning to end. Some characters are better written than others. Kai, the protagonist, has a personality like wet cardboard, and he feels like 95% self insert to 5% character. As the story progresses, it is revealed why he acts the way he does, but it feels like too little too late. Akiho, the token heroine, is in a somewhat similar position, but her development is better overall, and her reasons for acting the way she does are far more apparent. Other members of the cast are hit or miss. Koujiro is effectively a hornier female version of Daru from S;G, but she has a great character arc which I feel justifies her character. Junna however is basically a walking archetype, and doesn't change even after her arc is over. Nae returns in the flesh, though she has a pretty minuscule role, even as one of the "heroines" of the VN. Her moments are some of the funniest, however. The endings are a bit of a mess, implementation-wise. Unlike previous entries, there really is only one ending. However, for some reason, (my guess is to keep the game consistent with the other entries), they broke up the character related arcs, making each chapter focusing on a character its own "ending" even though they all happen one after the other. The final ending feels a little too happy in my opinion, and even a bit too far-fetched, but it is consistent with the more lighthearted tone of the VN as a whole, even if it was still tackling literal world ending stakes. The music is also pretty solid in this VN, though It cannot hold up to S;G's legendary soundtrack, or the diversity of the C;HN track, it holds its own for the most part. The main theme manages to somehow feel nostalgic, even upon hearing it for the first time, and it has pretty good variety. Though, there is this one upbeat action track they love to play every thirty seconds in the final few chapters that will slowly begin to get on your nerves. All in all, ROBOTICS;NOTES is a relaxing and mysterious visual novel, and feels like a breath of fresh air in the SciAdv series. Even if it struggles a bit to live up to the previous entries, it is still a great read and definitely worth getting. Due to the game's age it is constantly going on deep sale during the seasonal sales, so I would recommend picking it up then if you don't want to spend 35 on a 12 year old visual novel. Oh yeah, if you're confused about my time, I played the game elsewhere first, but my data ended up transferring when I got it on steam, so I just had to spend a few hours mopping up the achievements that didn't fire when I first started up the game. I more than enjoyed it enough to 100% it. El. Psy. Kongr- Oops, wrong one.

As of writing, I'm currently about 30 hours in and have made it to phase 7. I am also using the Committee of Zero improvement patch, which fixes translation issues, technical issues, and also adds mouse support. These patches are a necessity for every Sci;Adv game honestly. After being introduced to the Sci;Adv series through the Steins;Gate anime, and then reading Chaos;Head NoAH (with the amazing translation/uncensor/fix patch by Committee of Zero), Robitics;Notes is a pretty drastic change of pace. Though it still has plenty of the Sci;Adv mystery and intrigue, the main focus of the story seems far more laid-back and SoL. And I don't think that's a bad thing, it's quite nice actually. Reading the interactions between the characters, going through each of their arcs, and seeing them grow is a wonderful experience. And the mystery plot, progressing alongside each of the character arcs, is intriguing as ever, and I cannot wait to see how it pays off and ties in with the previous games. This also brings me to a small point of contention I have with the game. Each of the character routes, aka phases (starting in phase 5) are all part of the same main story. They happen one after the other. I like this, a lot even, because it lets every character have their own arc and all of them are canon. The issue, however, stems from how you go about accessing each route. You have to rewind to an older save and unlock each route by answering Twipos in a certain way. Frankly there is no real reason for this, and it would be better if you could just read all the phases sequentially without needing to figure out unlock conditions. Fortunately, CoZ has a guide for unlocking all the "endings", and it makes unlocking everything much less painful.

STRONG RECOMMENDATION BEFORE PLAYING: ROBOTICS;NOTES ELITE is the third entry in a visual novel game series known as the "Science Adventure" series. ROBOTICS;NOTES ELITE often references predecessor entries throughout the story! Because of this, I HIGHLY recommend you to play CHAOS;HEAD NOAH and then STEINS;GATE before playing ROBOTICS;NOTES ELITE! It's not necessary, YOU DON'T HAVE TO, HOWEVER, if you do, you will enjoy reading ROBOTICS;NOTES ELITE so much more and better understand countless references mentioned throughout the story, so, be sure to play those two games before this one for the best experience! About ROBOTICS;NOTES ELITE Behold and enter a world where there was a boom in popularity for the field of robotics! As a result of this boom in interest, many companies around the world have developed robots for mankind to use for various useful purposes (i.e. for medical applications)! Amidst the robotics boom, Tanegashima island residents Misaki Senomiya and her younger sister Akiho Senomiya develop a passionate interest for robotics, especially from watching a lot of mecha anime! As a result of her strong passion for robots, while studying in high school, Misaki forms what is known as the modern day "Robotics Club" at Chuo Tanegashima High School! Misaki develops a small-sized hobby robot known as the TanegashiMachine 3 and enters it into a fighting tournament for robots known as "ROBO-ONE". The hobby robot wins the tournament and Misaki's ambitions grow in size. Misaki then dreams of building a giant sized-robot and even begins development on it at an abandoned hangar, but suspiciously, Misaki suddenly ceases its development at around 70% and Misaki loses all of her love and interest in robots and moves out of the island to Tokyo to work as the PR person at the company ExCo, which specializes in developing robots for medical applications known as "HUG"s. One of Misaki's childhood friends - Mizuka, is an active user of a HUG. Mizuka has worn a HUG around her waist ever since she had an accident that yielded her handicapped. "Why did Misaki suddenly lose her interest for robots?" you may wonder. Well, that's your call to play and figure out for yourself! However, throughout ROBOTICS;NOTES ELITE, you'll begin playing in the year 2019, which is 9 years after Misaki's departure from Tanegashima to Tokyo, and you'll be playing as Akiho and Kai during Akiho and Kai's mid high school years. Akiho is now the president of the Robotics Club which at the time has 2 members - herself and Kai. Akiho is still passionate as ever for robots, and dreams to build a giant sized robot just like how her older sister used to dream of. In fact, Akiho wishes to continue the legacy (giant sized robot work) that her sister left off at and wishes to showcase it at a huge robotics event at Tokyo known as the "Tokyo Expo 2020"! She's quite attached to her sister's legacy. This is how she describes it: "GunBuild-1 (her older sister's legacy) was the recrystallization of the robotic club alumnis sweat and tears." Throughout this story, with Kai, who is a fellow Tanegashima islander the same age as Akiho and also somebody who loves a video game called "Kill-Ballad", Akiho will work to make her dreams come true. However, it turns out that dreams are easier said than done. Is this story really as simple and short as working together to build your dream robot or are there deep rabbit holes waiting to be discovered such as funds that need to be earned for robot building, AR secrets, human experimentation, Committee of 300 schemes and more? I mean, you should at least consider that 2 people might not be enough to build a giant robot. Or is it? Play to find out! Also, many people say the ROBOTICS;NOTES ELITE story is linear. Yes, it's technically true, the story begins at point A and ends at a later point B. But, you don't have to necessarily experience it completely linearly, chapter by chapter. ROBOTICS;NOTES ELITE has 12 chapters known as "phases". After phase 5, you can skip up to 2 phases and make it to phase 8 which is exactly what I experienced on my first playthrough of phase 5. Would you call this linear? When this happened, I loved it but I was really confused because phase 8 references objects and events from phases 6 and 7. Plus, the time and outfits characters wear in phase 8 are completely different than phase 5. After completing phase 8, I had to complete phases 6 and 7 in order to unlock phase 9. This long possible jump ahead and then back in phases is not linear. So, it's possible to not completely linearly finish this game. My Review of ROBOTICS;NOTES ELITE Ojarimouse! First and foremost, I want to note that I played using the [url=https://sonome.dareno.me/projects/rne-steam.html] Committee of Zero fan patch ("ROBOTICS;NOTES ELITE Steam Patch") in order to read more accurate translations. I absolutely loved this story. The story itself is on the same level as STEINS;GATE which is high quality story-telling that I really admire. Not only that, but it's absolutely visually stunning. I was in shock when I saw how beautiful the art was. Similar to how I felt playing STEINS;GATE, during the first few chapters of this game, I wasn't enjoying the story that much at first, but once I got to the mid chapters and especially the last few chapters, that impression faded away. I eventually became hooked to the game. To put it like Kai: My enjoyment was initially 3:7 and then went up to 9:1...even though some club members have personality issues. ;) I also loved how there were so many twists (true identity reveals and true intention reveals) as well, it's as much or maybe even more than the amount of twists in CHAOS;HEAD NOAH. Speaking of CHAOS; HEAD NOAH, I'd never imagine I'd see this day where I'd meet someone more anti-social than Taku *coughs* Junna. Oh and also, I want to ship Frau to STEINS;GATE's Daru, they'd be the perfect couple! Just imagine what kind of eroge it would be! Duhuhu... I found the D section on Twipo to be absolutely brilliant, well done with what you did with that, devs! I must admit that Junna's constant whines and cries can get annoying, and I especially felt fed up with her towards the end but seeing her become confident and stop with that at the end made me relieved. I began liking her (the least likable character in my opinion) during her end where she makes up with her grandfather - doc. Most importantly, I loved the ending. Seeing everyone (including the school VP and Subaru's dad) stay by the Robotics Club's side, witnessing Akiho's dream (Super GunBuild-1!) come to life and seeing everyone's hatred and prejudice towards the Gunvarrel anime fade around the world was absolutely touching. I was glad we saved Misa-nee from Kimijima's curse (grip) and saw Misa-nee not be dead at the end. I really wish Mizuka had made it to the end to witness this beautiful ending. Speaking of endings, this was my ending order ending order - Merry Christmas (Airi) - Summer Ends Today (Nae) - Stay in Touch (Junna) (used a guide to reach the ending) - I Will Do What I Can (Frau) (used a guide to reach the ending, otherwise its very hard to get to that ending AKA phase 7. in my opinion) - I Saved Their Smiles (Akiho) Extra notes I took: - Maguyan sounds like Shogun from CHAOS;HEAD NOAH, anyone else noticed that? - Had to play the game from the beginning for phase 7, what a pain, I couldn't have reached 7 without a guide. It was worth it though. I could have just started from phase 4. My fault. - Loved the credit roll accompanied by the beautiful song, wonderful way to end the game! This story will make ANYONE fall in love with robots! Triple A mecha anime VN! Storm and surge! Blast of spirit, Gunvarrel! Jakiin! Nocchiyo! Overall Rating: 10/10

Robotic;Notes is a nice slow-paced installment of the otherwise action-packed Sci-Adv series, but in its slowness arises a problem. It took me around a year to fully finish the game, while the previous two installments (C;H:N+S;G) took barely a month each. That is mainly due to the very late hook in the game's story. I kept waiting and waiting for the story to start ramping up but alas that only happens in the last few hours of the game. Which led to a cycle of [getting bored -> dropping the game -> picking it up again a couple months after]. Not helping is also the horrendous route system, truly the worst ever created. All of the "endings" are just parts of the overall main story, they don't end anything save for the bad endings. Not to mention if you don't follow a guide you could miss them and in turn miss huge parts of the plot and story, making it so you HAVE to use a guide. But even with all of that I still enjoyed the game and would recommend it but only and only if you've already played other parts of the Sci-Adv series, if not then don't start with this one. If you decide to play it use the improvement patch: http://sonome.dareno.me/projects/rne-steam.html

These were the most precious 52 hours of my life. I can't really put it into words, but this story was fascinating. It might be long, but it's obviously intended to develop the characters and the story around them. I would recommend this game just for its story, because it is so pretty and heartwarming, that the story alone without context is awesome, but obviously I need to recommend you to play Chaos;Head and Steins;Gate, as this game is very linked to those titles, and you would have trouble understanding some things about it. Anyways, I'm glad I played this masterpiece, it truly is beautiful in every way possible, and I can't wait to see what else the Science Adventure Series has to offer. Yoira~Iki!!!
