Fun shooter with visceral combat, clear respect for the original film's spirit, plentiful environmental destruction, though somewhat underpolished and with uneven graphics (e.g., great lighting and locations but disappointing facial animations or mishandled depth of field in some conversations) - but still much better than I'd expect from a studio with a mixed track record "milking" a mostly dormant IP. It took me 14 hours to beat to near-100%. It's rather on the easy side (I died once or twice on normal difficulty, and I'm not the type to take the time to work out an efficient/optimal character build, and I rarely used the special skills like dodge, blinding flash, temporary shield etc.). With the semi-open city sections, sidequests, several skill lines, pistol upgrade circuits, dialogue choices with minor story impact, character opinion, use of skills and missable clues in dialogue, etc., I wish they'd actual gone even further and made the game into an immersive sim lite.

Robocop game, performed by Teyon, is a solid shooter on its own, and also a proper tribute both to the original Robocop movies AND arcade video games made by Data East. The story is decent. A bit harsh on the entry points, where we are simultaneously taking credits like we're past the second original film events, and with that, some cleats and patterns from the very start of the Robo career, about 45 minutes of the first film events. That's a slight issue, though, for I doubt that many people, even those who remember the original storyline well enough, would be dazzled even a bit by the slight canon facts refurbish. And, except that entry, that only nerds like me would notice, the whole game story body is nice and firm. I've enjoyed the exploration part, with the side quests made in a Deus Ex way, even with the relative variability of the ways to solve the cases, which is cumulatively affects the ending, and the overall line of the story consequences. Can't say it affects the gameplay, though, the course of the game events is quite beelined. The things that I've enjoyed less, or not at all, were about speed of movement and the total absence of jumping mechanic. Those restrictions are intentionally introduced as the elements of the gameplay, supposedly making you feel a more robot-like, and that could work, if only I wouldn't remember the original movies and the first video games about Robo, where the main character could move just as fast, if not faster, than any other human being on the screen, with the only limitations concerning the ability to twist and turn, which were performed fast, but different from how a normal human would do it. Now, I don't say that that game should be another Max Payne dodgeroll-fest, but, the relatively slow pace of overall movement, outside the combat, makes the game more prolonged and a bit more boring in the hub exploration part. Aside from that, though, I had a very good time, and wholeheartedly recommend it to all players above early teens age, who can enjoy a shooter game. My mark is 8.5/10. And, of course, I thank for your cooperation and patience, in reading this!

This is not just "an average game but a masterpiece for Robocop fans", it is, full stop, an incredible mid-budget title that is way more ambitious than what the first hour suggests. I expected a lot of corner-cutting when it comes to technical aspects, it turns out to be one of the prettiest games of the year with fascinating use of lighting, material, physics, and texture works, with the only weak link being facial animation. I expected a simple combat model, what I got is an interesting gameplay loop where despite Murphy's tankiness, you still have to zigzag from cover to cover, rapidly taking down enemies and picking up weapons, prioritizing the right targets, juggling between different abilities to utilize them to their fullest. Balancing a consistent level of lethality on both sides is a tough act, yet Robocop did it without sweating. I expected a superfluous dialogue system where I can just spam Space to skip every line and doesn't need to mind what comes after, turns out they not only affect the endings, but also the public's opinion of you, political outcome, and Murphy's closest people around him, all delivered through decently compelling writing. I expected simplistic weapon and upgrade systems, the game instead introduced a very *weird* yet oddly satisfying Auto 9 customization system where you have to place stats chips on a motherboard. Do it wrong, your gun feels like crap. Do it right, it can turn into a mini machine gun or impact grenade launcher that doesn't need reloading. I expected poor, bland, generic level design, what I got is a VTMB-like overworld that connects to various combat centric sub-levels, giving the game a nice balance between exploration, meeting the town's population, and all out gunfights where often different approaches to combat are offered and environmental destruction remains a constant presence. I expected low variety of enemies since that's what low/middle budget games tend to overlook, here we have just enough to give players interesting obstacles with various methods to dispatch, ranging from gangsters with rocket launchers, bikers, to robots and armored combatants who go down quicker when you shoot their d*ck. Almost all enemy types require a different approach to and shooting skill which is essential to this genre. I expected a lot, Robocop Rogue City surpassed all of them and remains one of my most favorite games of 2023. Clear your headspace, shoot some d*cks, be the people's piece of destructive metal for once, it's good for the soul.

STORY: - Sticks with the original concepts of man vs. machine dilemma, juggling what's right vs. what's politically convenient, and humanizes main characters and side characters. A - Full of choices, many of which have substantial impacts on story outcome. A+ - Great time strolling down memory lane from RC1 and RC2. A+ GAMEPLAY: - Auto-9 comes with unlimited ammo and is as powerful as it looks in the movies. A+ - Hearing the Auto-9 shoot is like hearing the singing of the angels. A+ - Customizing the Auto-9 into something even more powerful is BA. A++ - Hidden side objectives are easy to miss and revealed after the level when players cannot go back to get. C - Shooting baddies is just satisfying every time. A+ - No NewGame+ mode to continue on with all your perks, boards, and chips, but you have almost all the perk points you'll need anyway to make the end boss a breeze if played right. B - Over-the-top gore (but in a comic book style) stays true to Verhoeven's original masterpiece. A+ - The voice acting will make players want to turn the Auto-9 onto themselves, so C-, but... Peter Weller reprises his role as the voice of Robocop, so adjusted to A-. FAN SERVICE: - Everything everyone loved about the first two movies is in here. So many callbacks, throwbacks, easter eggs, and good memories. It's like playing through a sequel to the first two movies, but it's rated R and doesn't suck. A+ OVERALL GRADE: A - 9/10; would again buy that for a dollar.
