3.5/5 Rival Stars Horse Racing is an entertaining game with a lot of potential, though lack-luster in many areas. Notes: - The horse graphics/animations are beautiful. Not 'Red Dead Redemption 2' beautiful, but when most horse game competitors have graphics that look like they went through a blender twice, Rival Stars easily surpasses them. I do wish there were a little more diversity in their animation loops. I also wish there were more customization options for your jockey, even though they aren't really an important aspect of the game, it would just be nice. - The story is endearing, although not the most captivating -- after a few levels, I found myself just skipping through the dialogue without reading it, because we don't get to actually see anything happening, we just have to read people talking about something that happened. And that's fine, the story isn't the main attraction for this game, I just wish it were a little more catching to the player. - The horse breeding system is addictive as hell lol. Especially now that they've added cross-breeding, breeding horses is seriously so much fun. I love all the different coat and color types for the horses, too. - Unfortunately, my least favorite part about this game is... the gameplay loop itself. Because boy is it a loop. The first few hours I didn't mind it, but as time went on it got more and more irritating and, simply, boring. It's very mobile-game feeling (which makes sense, as Rival Stars is also a mobile game, and their mobile version arguably gets more love from the devs than this version). You breed a new foal. Train it. Skip through a hundred races with it to level it up. You use it to earn enough cash to breed your next generation of horses, and then the cycle repeats, endlessly. Or rather, until you reach max level, at which point there's not much to do in the game at all. I know that we horse-girlies have very few options to choose from, because for some reason, the gaming world has yet to realize just how easy it would be to capitalize off of horse girls and horse games lmao. So, since our options are limited as is, I would definitely recommend Rival Stars Horse Racing. I don't think it's perfect -- I think it has crazy potential, though I can't say I'm optimistic that much of that potential will actually be met. Despite my negative notes, I have generally enjoyed my time playing this game -- I just can't help but wish for more options, diversity, and freedom in the game. More things to do, more horse breeds, Western riding, things like mini games, the option to directly feed and groom our horses, etc, etc.

I bought this game after playing the mobile version. I enjoy the PC version much more, since there are no micro-transactions or subscriptions. I love the racing, the breeding, the training, and the goal/leveling system. I do wish that there was a way to connect with friends in the game, but that's my only gripe.

Probably one of the best horse games on steam... but there are some things that are just not ok. Starting out with the price; for what this game has to offer, 40 euros is just too much money. 20 or even 30 euros would've been okay. Secondly, this game, which is the desktop version of a mobile game, gets the updates MONTHS apart from mobile which is simply not fair. Mobile version is free to play with micro-transactions. Desktop HAS to be BOUGHT. I think there is a huge difference here. I'm fully aware the team makes double, probably triple the money with mobile edition and I could absolutely wait a couple weeks, even a month for the same mobile update, but I can't wait half a year. This is just unacceptable and ridiculous, in my opinion. Apart from that, the animations are well made, the colors and patterns of the horses are cute and creative and the breeding could definitely be quite addictive. The racing aspect of the game is also well made but you kinda get tired of racing yourself after a while and end up using the jockey bots. Watching the races feels a lot better than actually participating. I recommend this game to all those people who love to do the same things for hours on end, that love horses and that don't mind waiting to see an update that mobile has had for half a year.

Best horse game on the market. In particular, there are very few video games that successfully animate a horse's movement in a way that feels smooth and realistic. Most PC horse games look very stiff and slow, and that's turned me away from actually playing them. Rival Stars horses are graceful and move beautifully. They look realistic, and they actually have good conformation in line with the Thoroughbred breed. I've seen some people upset about the fancy, unrealistic coat patterns, but I personally adore all of the variations. Racing, Cross Country, and Steeplechase are all very fun, with a variety of challenges involved in mastering them. Winning actually takes planning and strategy until you reach the endgame and can breed Grade 10 "superhorses" that will pretty much win anything. Even then, it's fun to challenge your own best times or try and beat the global leaderboards. I do have a few things I would like to see in the game going forward. For one, I think the recent Legacy update has a lot of potential, but needs a bit more tinkering in order to actually be a good feature. One of the big benefits of the Legacy horse is that you get to pick its appearance. However, the original Legacy horse's stats are pretty tragic, so breeding is basically required in order to pass along the Legacy to a horse you'd actually want to race. But in breeding, you're pretty much guaranteed to lose that fancy coat color that you picked by the time you get a horse with stats worth keeping. So, I would like to see specific breeding rules for Legacy horses in order to keep that customized coat color. They should be genetically dominant, and have a higher chance of passing on their coat color to the foal than the other parent. It might also help if the Legacy horses "hidden genes" were exactly the same as the coat color it's presenting. I know this sin't how genetics actually work, but I'd really like the ability to pick a coat color for your Legacy horse to actually mean something. It would, of course, also be nice to see the Legacy horse with higher stats.

Overall i enjoy this game but i do find it disappointing that mobile users are prioritised for upgrades and overall gameplay they get a lot more than desktop users and for people like me who are unable to use a mobile app that is disappointing. Regardless its a nice game to play but dont expect all the bells and whistles the mobile version gets
