As someone that played the original Risk of Rain for over 100 hours and got all the achievements, I can say that the remake's better in every way I can think of. The original game's bug where level collision broke and you just fell through the ground in certain areas is no longer, characters other than Huntress can finally move a little bit while they shoot, MINER IS BACK, and the game's got all sorts of new mechanics and item parity with the sequel. The pixel art's been redone beautifully, Chanson d'automne... is still the best song ever (Coalescence is still the 2nd best song ever this is the order of it shut up dummy shuyt the u), and the game's levels are exactly as I remembered them (but better). I don't have any frens to play with, but I've heard the multiplayer in this one even works, too. But if you haven't played Risk of Rain and you want to know what it's like, it's basically like a 2d platformer action roguelike sort of deal where you pick a character from your roster (they've all got unique attacks), take a run as far as it goes, die, and depending on what progression milestones you got in the run, it unlocks new content for future runs. Some of the items interact with each other in wacky, fun ways, as the items in any roguelike should, and all of the characters are unique and fun to learn. You spend your run scampering across the level, picking up items as you go, and looking for a portal that takes you to the next level (difficulty ramps up based on how long your run's gone, so you're encouraged to be quick). There's a bossfight when you activate the portal. The bossfights are ICONIC and COOL, and then it teleports you to the next level (the levels are iconic and cool). At the portal of the second-to-last level, you're given a choice to either move on to the last level and complete the run or loop back to the first level NG+ style. It was all very good in like 2011, but now Risk of Rain RETURNS, and oh man. Oh baby! What I'm trying to say is that, for what it is, this game's definitely worth paying full-price for (I can't believe this thing is 15USD), and if it's on sale, just get it. Just GRAB IT UP man I LOVE Risk of Rain! I frickin LOVE Risk of Rain, dude! It's got this soundtrack, right? It's the soundtrack, and it's done by this guy called Chris Christodoulou, right? He's got some ABSOLUTE BANGERS, man! You've got to look him up, man! You've gotta play Risk of Rain and then look this guy u

One of my favorite games of all time. Though I may have spent less time with it than it's sequel, risk of rain returns shines so brightly in a sea of remakes and remasters. I hope it is a guiding light for the future of the games industry.

this is the gold standard what a remaster/rework should do new items, enemies, locations, and trials you can play with the old ruleset and items or the new you have acessability features and controller support its the old game polished, optimized and enhanced there is no reason to play the original one because this is everything the old game was but more and how is it ? its a 9/10 why 9/10 not 10/10 because Risk Of Rain 2 exists

I first played Risk of Rain while being trapped in a small dank room that could only fit a bed while sharing it with another person, it was cramped for about a month but risk of rain gave me many days of distraction from what was essentially my life at that moment but Risk of rain returns is Even better and I have to recommend everyone get this fantastic game.

Overall, this is a great upgrade to the original, but it needs some work and overall tinkering to make it better The base game loop is great, a direct upgrade to the original with some of the more egregious rules like having to clear the stage being removed makes the game at its core far better, with new items and characters keeping it fresh from the og alongside great graphics. The new abilities, while some could use some tinkering, are great additions to the game. I do, of course have a few issues with the game, which ill cover in brief here: Providence trials suck. theres nothing more to this, most are tedious. Common complaint ive seen through reviews, so im not going to capitalize on this. Stage 4 spawns are absurd. While this, of course, could just be boiled to "erm.. you suck!!!" a lot of my runs feel like they HAVE to bank on being able to deal with the HUGE amount of archer bugs and swifts that you will be bombarded with. if your character has good ground control, but no air attacks or missiles, the run ends there. This is mostly apparent on melee characters, but anyone that isnt pilot can have issues if they havent gotten any sufficient items FInally, this isnt as big of an issue, but the game can be rather difficult to read sometimes. Ranged attacks can get lost in a sea of enemies and hordes can be hard to read, but this isnt a very big issue if you know how to kite efficiently
