An extremely reluctant thumbs up. This is a pretty enjoyable Bullet-Heaven entry. It inovates in small ways, and has an anime aesthetic that will please a certain audience. It does not stray too far from the established formula, but I personally enjoy it with a video/podcast playing on the side. That said, read further for certain gripes that might make you not want to try this game. The English translation is bad. This leads to confusion over things like what you are supposed to do for certain sidequests and unlocks (just look it up in a guide trust me), as well as making a lot of stat upgrades and weapon behavior rather unclear. While you can intuit some of it from observing what it does in gameplay, certain things are just sadly incomprehensible gibberish. It also means that the little bit of story/lore this game, even if its a bit basic, has sadly falls through the cracks as you can just about piece together what the author actually wanted to say. Considering a lot of the story (and unlocks) are character focused, its a shame that the translation gets in the way of enjoying the same. Occasionally theres also description issues which I cant tell if they are due to translation or lack of care. For example, level unlocks need to happen without using a drink from the drink mixing system. While mentioned in one part of the game, the level unlock achievement simply says "beat X" without the stipulation. With the translation issue, this can create frustration. On top of the aforementioned issues, certain weapon evolutions and upgrades can drastically change a weapons behaviour, in certain cases taking away vital functionality of a weapon, like taking away its range/reach or severely reducing its dps on accident through lowering its projectile numbers etc. While the lack of balancing means you can search out fun broken stuff it also means that if you're not using a guide or have trial and error-ed out all options, you will just occasionally fuck up one of your runs. I didn't personally mind it but it does get irritating. Upgrade grind is long and ardeus. While it allows you for quite significant choice and options, for example allowing you to unlock certain weapon upgrades but also disable others, it also contains a buttload of metaprogression that is simply slow. The mentioned drinks system could have been a fun thing akin to other games, but its lack of transparency, relying on trial and error and material grind. The weapon upgrade system also requires looting and material, which you can somewhat circumvent with money. Sound tedious? Kinda is. Its also rather hillarious that you can on average rack up about 20,000 gold + about that amount in daily missions in a run but finishing off the final boss only gives out a measely 2500 gold. Lmao. Ironically, the fury system that speeds up the enemies and your attacks for a short period of time show the player a version of this game that would be more franatic and frankly more fun. While the runs arent vampire survivors long ass 30 minutes, 20 minutes is still pretty hefty if you consider the steep upgrade grind. As such, I recommend this as a relatively casual game, just a step above an idle/clicker game. Its not as actively engaging as other games in the genre, but its almost completely functional which hilariously a lot of vampire survivors clones are not, and is still being provided with occasional updates and fixes.
