Best restaurant game out there even thought it is an old game. I wish they made a third on. Ive been waiting for years. I judge all restaurant games based off this one. Story, challenges and achievements. Never boring and ive played it again from the beginning a few times over the years.

Overall: Recommendable game. Enjoyable, inexpensive, and charming. Some detail: The game holds a lot of potential to be far better than it is. The storyline and characters try to be charming but are inherently misogynist and a slightly over invested in pushing stereotypes. The highlights of this game are the recipe items and the individual ingredient management. The ability to price them varyingly. The cooking shows are a good pace breaker as well. The business management aspect in terms of the data the user gets for their restaurants' performance is very well done as well. Gripes: The game has absolutely terrible decor options. They say 1400 decor items but this is absolutely a manipulated statistic used for marketing purposes. The user does not get access to any more than an average of 15-17 wall decor items, 5-6 table decor items, 10-12 floor decor items. This is per restaurant. And it remains the same. In essence, if you're truly building a restaurant empire, with this game you'll just end up having a fast food chain in terms of decor. The variety is so unbelievably low that it feels like a demo. Furthermore, the highlight of the game, which are the recipes and ingredients also brings its downsides, which is the management of the special ingredients. The user interface makes it so taxing on the quality of life for the game that it literally makes you want to play the game less the more restaurants and recipes you have. Individually making 3 clicks for each ingredient for each recipe in order to set the special suppliers is ridiculous. The user would break their mouse's left click simply by playing this game alone. Lastly, the chefs, the game does not allow hiring of chefs directly from a hiring panel. Instead, they come as special guests randomly and ask to be hired. However, if by mistake you fire them, you can never get them back and you'll be a chef short for a long time. There is also no option to give training boost to the chefs so you have to deal with the bad food preparation complaints whenever you get a new chef for a long time. Perhaps the devs had the intention to use this forced limitation in order to create more challenge or difficulty but it simply does not make sense at all and does not help make the gameplay experience more enjoyable. Conclusion: It can be understandable that at the time when this game came out, they perhaps couldn't add a lot many more decor options, but it is also not that convincing because games like The Sims were out around this time and they had a lot many more decor options in a similar playstyle. Additionally, they may also be running on a far lesser budget than what something like EA can pump into their games. The game needs: Far more decor options. Far better ingredient/recipe management options. Sensible Chef hiring and training options. The game has: Potential. It needs to become a full fledged game from a demo that it is in its current state. For the current price, its fine. But perhaps it can have more paid expansive options.
