For such an old game I feel like it still hits all the right parts of a restaurant sim game. Campaign story that while definitely made for television is entertaining and challenging...check Ingredient Management for quality improvements...check Staff skills, training, and management...check Physical Restaurant Building management...check Cooking Competitions and Tournaments...check Outside of not being able to control your own chef directly (hence it's a management simulator) this game really did everything really well. I feel like i'm still looking for a game that does all my desires for a restaurant management like this game. Highly recommend this game to anyone who has that itch to run a restaurant but not want the tiring cooking simulator niche that has become the more mainstream attempt at this sim. 8/10 There's some glitchhyness that they've done a great job mitigating with patches. Game plays wonderfully and you enjoy most of your time playing. Can get a little repetitive and micro-managing sometimes but i've always found it in that perfect spot where it's challenging but not harsh.
Weird to say but even though this is a very old game but nothing really has come close to the management side of running a restaurant. The focus here is much more in managing suppliers/ingredient costs than cooking mini games and recipe experimentation that has dominated this genre. There are new updates coming out now which help modernise it a bit as well. I still go back to this game every couple of years so I am really hoping for a DLC in the future.
This is a fantasic gem of a game. My favourite restaurant sim, and the fact you get 1 and 2 for the price is great value. While an older game, I think it still stands up well today, and great the developer has begun some quol improvements.Its a fun wee game, definately pick it up.
Overall Rating: 7.5 / 10 Restaurant Empire 2 is a true classic in the restaurant management genre. While it's true that the game is getting a bit old and its visuals/engine show its age, it is absolutely worth playing if you enjoy deep simulation and management games. Behind its casual look, there is a very solid layer of strategy. It’s not just about cooking; you have to carefully design the layout of your restaurant, place kitchens and restrooms efficiently, balance menu prices, analyze applicants' stats and wages to hire the right staff, and manage your overall business growth. Every decision matters to make your establishment profitable. I played hundreds of hours of this game back in the day on its original non-Steam Spanish version, and now over 30 hours here on Steam. Honestly, I haven't run into the bugs that some people mention—for me, the core experience has always been smooth and deeply enjoyable. My only real disappointment with the Steam release is the lack of Spanish language support, which was available in the original release and I really hope the developers consider bringing back. Despite that, it remains a hidden gem that deserves more love and recognition. If you enjoy classic strategy and management games, give it a chance. Highly recommended!
