Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is my favorite in the franchise. This could have been a great remake, especially that it features most of Raccoon City, the atmosphere, the soundtrack... it's just so memorable, it's very unfortunate they decided to capitalize on RE2R' success and take the shortcut. Nonetheless it's still a gorgeous and enjoyable game, just not worthy enough of bearing its name. A Director's Cut could have saved it in time maybe, though absolutely too late now.

As a long-time fan of the Resident Evil franchise, it's safe to say Iā€™ve experienced nearly every entry ā€” from the absolute masterpieces like Resident Evil 4 to the more divisive titles like RE5 and RE6. Iā€™ve loved them all in some way, shape, or form. Heck, even Resident Evil 7 was a welcome shift in style. Iā€™m still looking forward to diving into the remakes of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 4, and Resident Evil 8, but thereā€™s one title thatā€™s always stood out to me: Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. For newcomers to the series or those who never played the original Resident Evil 3, this remake is perfectly serviceable. Itā€™s an action-packed ride with little downtime, which might appeal to fans of fast-paced gameplay. The chase sequences with Nemesis are intense and frequent, and the game never feels too slow. If youā€™re coming into this fresh, you might have a good time. However, if youā€™ve played the original RE3 ā€” or if youā€™ve come to love its slower, more atmospheric tension ā€” the changes in this remake might leave you disappointed. The game feels short ā€” far shorter than the original, which had more breathing room and a greater sense of exploration. Here, the focus is almost entirely on action and Nemesis chases, which leaves very little room for the puzzles, character interactions, and environmental storytelling that made the original stand out. One of the most frustrating aspects of the remake is how much content was cut. The original RE3 had more variety in its pacing. There were sections where you could take your time solving puzzles, exploring, and interacting with other characters. The remake trims all of this down, opting instead to ramp up the action. This works for some, but for me, it took away what made the original so special ā€” the balance between survival horror, exploration, and action. The plot changes also stood out to me as a major flaw. While itā€™s not uncommon for remakes to take liberties with story elements, some of the decisions here felt like missed opportunities. For example, the death of Brad Vickers, a moment that was genuinely shocking and impactful in the original, barely registers here. Similarly, the iconic Barry Burton appearance at the end is gone, which is another change that felt like a misstep. There are more plot deviations, but I wonā€™t spoil them here. Suffice to say, for long-time fans of the original, these changes can feel jarring. Looking at the overwhelmingly ā€œVery Positiveā€ reviews on Steam, I get the impression that many players are enjoying the game in isolation, without comparing it to its predecessor. Thatā€™s fine, and I can understand why people are giving it high marks. Itā€™s not a bad game, just a mediocre one when stacked against the original. Itā€™s certainly fun in parts, but itā€™s also a missed opportunity. For fans who grew up with the original RE3, the remake feels more like a fast-paced action game with a few elements tacked on rather than a faithful reimagining. In the end, Iā€™m going to give the game a positive review as well ā€” maybe not as glowing as some others, but itā€™s still a fun time, especially if youā€™re not attached to the original. But, for me, itā€™s hard to shake the feeling that Resident Evil 3: Nemesis deserved more than just a straightforward action reboot.

Compared to RE2R, this remake left me feeling a bit torn. On one hand, itā€™s great to see a classic get a modern makeover, and the graphics are absolutely stunning. The environments are beautifully detailed, and navigating through the chaotic streets of Raccoon City can be nerve wrecking, especially with Nemesis right on your heels. However, it definitely feels like itā€™s missing something, especially for fans of the original. A lot of key moments and areas that made the first game so memorable are either shortened or cut entirely, which makes the whole game feel rushed. Itā€™s clear that the developers wanted to create something special, but in the end, it feels like they sacrificed depth for a quicker experience. I wanted to be immersed in that terrifying world again, but instead, I felt like I was just skimming the surface. Itā€™s fun, but itā€™s a missed chance to truly honor the original. Overall, itā€™s definitely a fun experience for newcomers, but for fans of the original, it might not quite live up to expectations

Do yourself a favor and grab this game while it's on sale. You'll most likely enjoy it as any other Resident Evil, since the overall quality is consistently good across all of their games. Even if someone might argue that it's too short or bad of a remake, it's still a clean and polished game that would take a few well-spent evenings. I couldn't care less about the quality of the 'remake', since I haven't played the original, and it took me 9 hours over 4 days to beat, which isn't really that short. Overall, it's an enjoyable game and I'd personally prefer a 'short' and well-directed game over countless hours of dull side quests any day. 8/10

My only complaint is that the game was really short, everything else was good. Jill is a really cool character and I wish we got to spend more time with her!! The UI upgrades from RE2 were very nice too šŸ™
