I find myself coming back over and over again. I would love it if there were new expeditions added to the game but with the variety of crews one can throw together it is always a new experience and you never know if you will make it to the end.

It's a fun turn based tactics/roguelite game themed around becoming the greatest team of explorers. At the start of each run, you pick which 3 of the 20ish explorers you want for your team. You then can pick which missions to pursue based on your team's strengths and weaknesses. During combats, each of your moves falls into one of 3 stances (Aggressive, Friendly, or Devious) and what stance you vs your opponent is in dictates the flow of the fight. Outside of fights, you face choices and skillchecks, whose chances are weighted by your explorers' bacgrounds and how you leveled them. As a result, a game where you chose 3 aggressive explorers and focused on gold generation feels different than a team of friendly science-focused explorers, etc.

Making this review many years later after getting this game just to say I really hope it gets a sequel someday. Hopefully with an updated combat system. Can definitely recommend.

This game is really good, one of my all time favourites. It's a roguelike world exploration and treasure hunting game with tactical combat and massive replay-ability. It's hard, and there's no meta-progression, but you get a lot better from learning the mechanics and then building a well balanced team. After awhile you figure out how to clear all the expeditions somewhat reliably, but then you can switch your goals to maximizing the score instead of survival, and then it gets a lot harder because you start picking team composition, upgrades, and expeditions for their ROI instead of their ability to help you win encounters. The combat system was revolutionary with letting you approach it with a friendly/deceitful/aggressive demeanor. This lets you eliminate the enemy's will to fight by having granny Agatha lecture them and make them sad, through the impressive sultry power of Maria's hotness, or from the sheer cheerful joy Pedrinho's smile. I'd like to see more games leaning into those kinds of systems to enable more kinds of storytelling besides deadly fighting.

It is a decent game, definitely original with very good tabletop feelings, but there is no in-game journal to help with the meta game. For instance knowing weaknesses of bosses already encountered is key to planning and runs are roughly 3h So after picking up the game after a while and forgetting the details I had the feeling it did not respect my time and will probably leave it at 20h. No proper Wiki either. So it is a yes, but beware of this shortcoming.
