As another review says- if Ultrakill is the improvement of Doom, then Reaver is the step-up from Quake. Like Quake, you have all kinds of absurd ways to move about, from b-hopping to accumulate an insane amount of speed to good ol' rocket jumping, to just straight up becoming the ultimate ninja with infinite wall jumps so you can traverse the trippy landscapes and levels with ease. Still, the movement itself isn't the sole thing here: it's the gunplay and design! Many people might accuse Reaver of being a UK rip-off, and it'd be silly not to acknowledge it, but there's plenty unique things here, too- I'd even say some of these similar things can help a UK player ease in or get familiar, too. A huge part of Reaver's weapons is having combos akin to fighting games- which, although seems complicated, very quickly becomes muscle memory- especially for your favorite ones. Some abilities and combos seem simple, like a charged shot richochetting around or going on a rampage with duel wielding shotguns, while other crazy ones might bounce between airborn targets or make you float so long as you keep making your mark! Since there's no style meter or judgement, it really is up to the player in whichever tricky showy or efficient way they want to use these to clear the room. Another thing the game might get critique over is its color pallet and general design. Although it definitely is somewhat hard on the eyes at times, I think it works extremely well- especially so when there's so many unique and different types of enemies who have their own outlandish vibrant designs so you can tell who/what they are even from afar. The game is still in development, and I think it has quite a far ways to go, but I'd absolutely keep an eye on this one! Especially if you've torn through Ultrakill and still need a stylish shooter to take a shot at!
