Everything I hoped for. Started playing at 11pm, next time I noticed the clock was 2am. Next time I noticed the clock was 3:30 am. The next time after was 5:30. I stopped at 6:30.

Let's keep this short, simple and straight to the point. If you've played Railway Empire 1 and enjoyed it then IMO you'll enjoy RE2 even more. It's similar with lots of QOL improvements over what RE1 has. For example - auto signalling (which can be toggled on/off). I'll let you decide what the QOL stuff you'll like/appreciate the most.

I played the first RE for hundreds of hours. First time I played the second one, I didn't adapt so well. Everything felt so different and cumbersome. But after I gave it a second chance, played the first campaign throught, I loved it. This game improves the first one in every aspect. One point that helped me a lot was to remap the keys to be similar to the first one and more intuitive (t - tracks, g - gridiron, b - build, s - supply towers, f - flow of goods, etc....). Default keymap is terrible in my opinion.

Much better and a lot more fun than the RE1, this game is a great value for the money, especially for the play-hours you can have. Yes, steep, very steep learning curves ahead, so be warned. Game has a complicated supply and demand system as it should but you can only master this through many mistakes and playing many hours. Sure there are guides and videos out there yet, until you truly figure this out on your own through playing it, you won't quite get it right to fully enjoy the game. Because once you figure this out, then its a well oiled machine that's joy to play and watch. Laying tracks, making connections and figuring out the finer details of switches and gridirons are also a lengthy process. There are a few bugs here and there and I am sure the developers will fix those in time as they are mentioned in forums and so on. Now there is one bug that is a end game killer. If there are more than one station in a city, yours or the competitions' and you get a task asking you to transport x number passengers from a city to another city, often enough game won't recognize your numbers as its looking for a specific train station to connect to a specific train station. So if you use your first stations build in both cities, game might be looking for the second stations and if you don't experiment and try different combinations, you will just lose the mission. This is the best train management game out there and the best one since railroad tycoon that came out many many years ago.

It's a little bit of an adjustment from the first game. Some QoL I enjoy (warehouses in cities). Switches for going into a city are a bit trickier. I like the old stations better. However, overall it's just as enjoyable and the campaign seems like it'll be lengthy. If you played the first or still enjoying it, I'm not sure this is different enough to upgrade. I would buy on sale. This more Railway Empire 1.5.
