After playing this game for 100 hrs I finally decided to give a review. This game is incredibly fun and charming. I absolutely love the art style of a miniature train set with 'realistic' assets (I have a small gripe that the station stops don't line up with the individual train carts, I assume this is because of the difference with build grid and train sizes but they could do with a remodel where these two dont obviously clash imo). It's incredibly fun and relaxing watching little trains go nyoom with their resource carts. My only major problem with this game is the campaign and progression. The early levels are incredibly fun and the lore is entertaining. However, as you get through around the mid-way of the fairly expansive campaign a problem emerges with the production chain: it gets immensely complicated. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. The good, you get to create more expansive train networks. The bad: the trains aren't very smart. As some people have already pointed out there is no such thing as signals, at most the train AI decides whether or not to take a path depending on its clearance. This means that (at least for me) its usually more efficient to seperate train lines completely, leading to an overwhelming spaghetti of tracks. This is of course a challenge to overcome but it just feels like a tremendous curve in difficulty/complexity and the one thing that turned me off the game for a while as the campaign has a mostly linear progression. After overcoming the urge to build as many industries as humanly possible and instead focus on maxing a single industry (something i believe the game doesn't do an excellent job of teaching you) the game is largely enjoyable. I just wish the campaign had a handful more levels based on massive throughput to breakup the gameplay. Otherwise, fun game, cute trains, entertaining lore. 8/10 Would recommend to anyone that is interested in transport supply chains (trains go nyoom) but finds the complexity of larger games in this genre overwhelming. Also: why does the soundtrack in this game go so f*king hard?

The game is not a realistic train simulator or railway building game. It is a realtime puzzle game with slightly fantastical train elements. The campaign is a carefully-designed series of challenges that ask you to plan and execute while the timer ticks. The win conditions are checked continuously, so as soon as you meet them, you win the challenge. This means the only speed limit is how fast you can accrue money, and as you improve you will find your times going down. The discrete nature of the challenges was nice, it made the game easy to put down after completing one or two challenges. This is in contrast to other games where one save can last hundreds of hours with no definite stopping point. As of writing this review, I have completed all campaign challenges and every steam achievement. It was worth my time. The time limits for the challenges I thought were reasonable. I was able to one-shot most of the challenges, but it was extraordinarily close at some points. On the first compute rocket challenge, I managed to get the last rocket in the air with 6 seconds left on the clock. User interface overall was good, but some keybinds were a bit unusual (V/F instead of F/R for increase/decrease) and it would have been nice with dedicated buttons to manage the loan. The only real frustration with the controls was trying to modify rails or stations below others. The challenges build on each other but are sufficiently varied, including some one-offs where the gameplay loop is altered. It does a good job of exploring the possibilities of the game's mechanics. The TEAS bonus level chain I found the most difficult and were the final challenges I completed - they required a unique bit of lateral thinking to achieve the goals. If you like a campaign with discrete goals and the pressure of accomplishing them on a timer, this game is for you.

It's fun to build train layouts, but I'm not one to do that without a purpose. The timed challenges in Railgrade provide just the right amount of purpose to motivate the whole experience, while leaving a lot of flexibility on how to implement the layout.

A fun management/puzzle game. It's like a very simplified Railroad Tycoon, with dystopian space corporatism flavor. The main issue I have with this game is that it doesn't allow for fast forwarding, so if you've got an S rank pace going and all you need to do is wait 10 minutes, you're going to have to wait 10 minutes to win. And the game did crash on me once. But all in all, a fun game

Railgrade is a very nice, relaxing PUZZLE game with a railroad/train theme. You are solving puzzles by making your production chains more efficient and your rails well alligned. There is a story in the campaign, but it's not deep at all. Just fun and giggles and some nice laughs, but nothing note-worthy. I like this game, because you are not getting stressed up about it and you can complete the missions on different difficulties. Also, you can complete ALL the achievements without bothering with the speed of completing the missions. This is a plus for me, since I am not the fastest and I like to take my time on missions (and not be stressed about it). Yet, I do want the the feeling of completing (100%) all the steam achivements.
