Adorable fastest shooter in the universe! Bless you, id Software! You know what... This game from 1999 has more online (with real humans, if you find correct servers) than the most "ambitious" and "revolutionary" Concord at the time of release? This game sucks... Ow... Sorry... They/them suck. May be this game identifies itself as they :) Return to Quake 3 ... IT'S PERFECT! In all aspects. After modding graphics with high resolution textures, HUD, sounds, multisampling, antialiasing, filtering, Reshade effects (bloom, chromatic abberation, sharping, motion blur, film grain, color shift) it looks so good even now: simple, but slylish and brutal. Nowadays with boring multiplayer shooters with same features and ideas, Quake 3 & Champions look like parallel world with the most rapid and spectacular gameplay and unfortunately has little actual online, when game is adorable (about QC). But, even playing with Q3A bots is challenging thing (in hardcore and nightmare level), where they are harder than typical Call of Duty or another shooter's real players. It's simple hardcore game with 0 toxic little community, which easy to start and hard to master. Cool gameplay even with bots and cool guns, cool stylish graphics after modding, open source code, and the biggest heritage at the beginning of cybersport era. 10 rocket jumps out of 10 Go away, Concord, Q3A even after 24 years better and feels more alive than you! MAKE QUAKE GREAT AGAIN !!! PS: or do something with Champions to increase audience.

Welcome to the Arena. Dennis Fong won John Carmack's Ferrari 328 as part of a Quake 1 MP championship in 1997, ID knew how fun it was to run around in Doom MP, they made Quake more fast and more vertical, when developing Q3A they decided to focus fully on MP and as a result, arguably created the competitive FPS genre or at the very least propelled it, trailblazing with the id tech 3 engine, which was used for Call of Duty, Wolfenstein Enemy Territory, and had a lot of code which Valve's goldsrc used - that's right, HL1, CS, and COD owe a lot of their success to the blueprint that ID discovered and crafted. Carmack has said in later years that Q3A was never designed to be this brutal game that is very difficult to learn, it just worked out that way, just like in Chess if you fail it's really your fault, there isn't anything to get lucky with aside from some great prefires or spam or happening to run into someone, but there's no artificial way to take the lead, you just have to be better than your opponent, and as a result, if you're interested in proving who the best player is, Q3A offers one of the most balanced experiences for a real fair competitive arena. It's really hard to overstate how profound Q3A was for the time it was released, it took an absolute beast of a PC to run at good FPS - back then almost no one was sitting on 200fps and almost no one was above 75hz or 100hz on a CRT. The atmosphere was moody, the game was dark and intimidating, but at the core of it, as a player, it never feels like the game is against you or punishing you, it is FAIR, brutally so, there is no "escape" button to save you, the character designs are kinda wacky, the bot DM maps and bosses ease you in - starting from Q3DM0 the first map against Crash, a very small hallway with only one or two weapons and two opposing spawn points - this is amazing game design - teaching you everything you need to know to get started before throwing you into a deathmatch with multiple bots. As a kid I gained my skills in those offline deathmatches, and I went online and got blasted, I sat in awe of the skill that some players seemed to have, instead of being discouraged I wanted to live in the world they did - where they were able to put the game on and dominate. So many iconic memories of playing on maps like The Longest Yard - a map where you have access to a railgun, multiple opponents, and almost zero hiding spots and cover, if you had good aim (most people were using rollerball mice pre 2006!) you'd be able to pick players off while hearing that reassuring "IMPRESSIVE, EXCELLENT" driving the dopamine home, iconic. ID were a bunch of guys who were having fun making the games they thought were great, they had no business blueprint to achieving annual ROI, they had no formula to follow, they operated in a free creative arena and as a result created one of the most fun and balanced competitive arena shooters of all time, dare I say the best, still, because in my eyes, yes it is dated but which modern title can I say is crafted better, overall? Thanks for reading!

Awesome retro fps shooter if you want to kill some time. Usually play it if i dont have internet and it can serve as a nice aim trainer. Fast-Paced usually and is good if you want a taste of the old school games. Doesnt have many bugs that i know of, but for me, (idk if this is for everyone else,) the multi-player unfortunately doesn't work. Fortunately i dont really mind as i only play it when my internet is down or if im wanting a time-killer. Overall recommended.

Quake III Arena is developed by id Software and released in 1999. This third episode abandons the linear story mode of the two previous games, preferring to focus brilliantly on arena combat and multiplayer. This is one of the last great iconic FPS games of the 90s, and one of the most cult Arena Shooters ever released. This episode does not offer a single player campaign strictly speaking, but a series of levels in which you fight to the death for your survival, against opponents without mercy, in arenas full of weapons, jump pads, and power-ups of all kinds. Sharpen your reflexes and prepare for wild gunfights, against battle-hardened and ferocious bots. Q3A's gameplay is hectic, intense, and brutal. Bots are fast, responsive and skillful, giving rise to fierce battles, leaving you almost no second of respite, as long as you play on a high difficulty (like Hardcore), giving all its flavor to the game. A large choice of levels is available, all more lugubrious and demonic than the others, comprising oppressive steel corridors littered with skulls and flaming torches, dried blood, lava and rust, all topped by infernal skies. Most of the maps have an unforgettable level design and style, here is an anthology of my favorites, each having an infamous name: "Arena Gate", "The Places of Many Deaths", "The Campgrounds", "Brimstone Abbey", "Hell's Gate"... Any cult FPS must have weapons worthy of the name, and Quake III can boast of having 9 of the most effective weapons in the entire FPS genre, among which the most important are described below. The Double Barrel Shotgun has phenomenal power at close range, and will annihilate anyone within close range. The Rocket Launcher is very powerful and accurate, and kills in one or two hits, it is also practical for doing Rocket Jumps and reaching high surfaces. The Railgun is a laser cannon with perfect precision, and kills in two shots except headshot, it can act as a sniper rifle for fans of ranged combat. The Machine Gun and Plasma Gun are the two submachine guns in the game, the first being available from spawn, and the second being much more powerful. The Lightning Gun fires electricity continuously, and although its power seems limited, its very high rate of fire makes it a weapon not to be underestimated. Several items to collect spice up the games, while others just allow you to survive longer in this chaos. In addition to health and armor points, but also weapons and ammunition, several powerups are available, granting superb time-limited benefits to the player who picks them up. "Haste" increases your character's speed and weapon rate of fire by 30%. "Quad Damage" multiplies your weapon damage by 3, and no, that's not a typo... "Regeneration" heals you little by little for 30 seconds, up to a maximum of 200HP. "Invisibility" makes you transparent for 30 seconds, useful for surprising your opponents. "Personal Teleporter" is an activatable item, which teleports you to a random respawn point. "Personal Medkit" is also an activatable item, and instantly restores your health up to 125HP. The different characters have an inimitable design, and have for the most part become icons of the "Boomer Shooter" as they say nowadays. Here are some of the game's most famous fighters: Ranger is the main character of the first Quake, who needs no introduction. Bitterman is the hero we play in Quake II, what more can be said? Doom is better known as Doomguy, and represents id Software's cult franchise. Anarki is the only character to have a multi-colored name, he is also recognizable thanks to his hoverboard, Orbb is a huge eyeball with a small mechanical body and vaguely human legs. Klesk is a sort of orange alien with a demonic appearance. Sarge, like the previous character, reminds me so much of the PS2 version called "Quake III Revolution", which I had so much fun playing with at the time. The soundscape is as undoubtedly successful as everything else. The Q3A OST is one of my favorites in all games, that’s saying something! Sonic Mayhem and Front Line Assembly made a masterpiece of Industrial Metal, very hardcore and heavy, which will delight all music-loving metalheads of which I am a part, and highlighting all the power and brutality of this sublime game. Let's not forget the hoarse voice of the Announcer, and his famous "Excellent" when we do two frags in two seconds, or "Impressive" when you hit two enemies in a row without missing with the Railgun. How to write an objective review of such an FPS monument? It's a difficult exercise as Quake III represents the quintessence of the FPS, and the excellent Arena Shooter genre which is now defunct. Q3A symbolizes excellence in all areas: fast, brutal, gory, enjoyable, beautiful and gripping, id Software's game is simply masterful, and is essential for anyone who claims to be a gamer and FPS fan. Long live Quake III Arena !
