No, that’s not a biodiversity simulator, and even the appearance of the animals here is cartoonish and polygonal. However, in my opinion, the game contains the most important thing - love for our natural world. This is evident in the pleasant visual style and the very essence of the game, which is about arranging various landscapes and animals in their natural habitats. Animals, weather conditions, and water bodies are available as playing cards, with the number of these cards increasing as the ecosystem develops, but something is always missing. For example, there are not enough bees to populate a meadow, or not enough tree cards to plant a forest, and so you have to improvise, using whatever is available. The game is entirely focused on making a cozy ecosystem. It is plain, simplified, but it works. Нет, это не симулятор биоценоза, и даже внешний вид животных здесь карикатурно-полигональный. При этом, на мой взгляд, игра содержит в себе самое важное – любовь к нашему естественному миру. Это видно во всём, начиная от приятного внешнего вида и заканчивая самой сути - грамотной расстановке различных ландшафтов и животных в естественных местообитаниях. Животные, погодные условия, ручьи и водоёмы выдаются в виде карт, число которых увеличивается по мере развития экосистемы, но чего-то всегда будет не хватать. Например, недостаточно пчёл, чтобы заселить поле. Или недостаточно карт с деревом, чтобы посадить лес, и тогда нужно выкручиваться, пользуясь тем, что есть. Игра посвящена спокойному и упрощённому созиданию экосистемы. Скромно, упрощённо, но это работает.

English + Deutsch What a cute, cozy, relaxing and addicting game. You create biomes by the cards you have, place the correct animals in them and gain points this way. There are currently 3 biomes (continental, Savannah, sea) and in the beginning, you start with the continental. Every time you reach the required points in the bottom left corner, you can a new piece of land which increases your biomes little by little. In the continental one, you must let it rain to turn the tiles green so that you then can place the biome(s) from your cards. In the Savannah biome, the rain turns tiles brown and to turn them green, you must place lakes and rivers. The sea biome has 3 kinds of depth and you must check your cards which animals or plants match with which depth. Each biome can increase to 12 tiles (more of them doesn't make any difference regarding animals, so it's no sense to place more). When you have 3 tiles, you can place one of the correct animals. With 6 tiles, you can place 2 animals and with 12 tiles 3 animals. Placing 3 of the same kind gives you 30 points and placing 3 different animals give 60 points. The goal is to reach as many points as possible. It's a nice puzzle game where you must think carefully where to put which biomes or animals in order to get good points and without ruining anything or running out of space. I always try to keep 12 fields free for each biome by marking it with rain. When you click the eye symbol in the top left corner, it tells you how many tiles and animals you have in every biome which is really helpful. Also that there is a tooltip for every card or button so that you know immediately what it means. There is also the camera symbol for the photo mode which allows you to zoom in very close for more details. This game has become one of my most favourite ones right from the beginning and playing it is a lot of fun. So from my point of view, an absolute recommendation to buy if you like that sort of thing. Was für ein süßes, gemütliches, entspannendes und süchtig machendes Spiel. Du erstellst Biome mit den Karten, die du hast, platzierst die richtigen Tiere in ihnen und sammelst so Punkte. Zurzeit gibt es 3 Biome (Kontinental, Savanne, Meer) und am Anfang fängt man mit dem Kontinentalbiom an. Jedes Mal, wenn du die erforderlichen Punkte in der linken unteren Ecke erreichst, bekommst du ein neues Stück Land (unten links), das deine Biome nach und nach vergrößert. Im kontinentalen Biom musst du es regnen lassen, damit die Kacheln grün werden und du das/die Biom(e) von deinen Karten platzieren kannst. Im Savannenbiom färbt der Regen die Plättchen braun und um sie grün zu machen, musst du Seen und Flüsse platzieren. Das Meeresbiom hat 3 Arten von Tiefen und du musst auf deinen Karten nachsehen, welche Tiere oder Pflanzen zu welcher Tiefe passen. Jedes Biom kann bis zu 12 Plättchen umfassen (mehr davon machen keinen Unterschied bei den Tieren, also bringt es nichts, mehr zu legen). Wenn du 3 Plättchen hast, kannst du eines der richtigen Tiere platzieren. Bei 6 Plättchen 2 Tiere und bei 12 Plättchen 3 Tiere. Wenn du 3 gleiche Tiere legst, bekommst du 30 Punkte, bei 3 verschiedenen 60 Punkte. Das Ziel ist es, so viele Punkte wie möglich zu erreichen. Es ist ein schönes Puzzlespiel, wo man gut überlegen muss, wo man was platziert, ohne sich dabei was kaputtzumachen oder dass einem der Platz ausgeht. Ich versuche immer, mir 12 Felder für jedes Biom freizuhalten, indem ich es mit Regen markiere. Wenn du auf das Augensymbol in der oberen linken Ecke klickst, wird dir angezeigt, wie viele Plättchen und Tiere du in jedem Biom hast, was sehr hilfreich ist für den besseren Überblick, weshalb ich das immer so nutze. Auch hat jede Karte und jeder Button einen Tooltip, sodass man immer sofort weiß, was dies bedeutet. Es gibt auch ein Kamerasymbol für den Fotomodus, mit dem man ganz nah ranzoomen kann für mehr Details. In Nullkommanix wurde es zu einem meiner Lieblingsspiele, denn es macht großen Spaß und ist sehr originell gemacht, wie ich finde. Von meiner Seite also eine absolute Kaufempfehlung, wer sowas mag.

The visuals and similarity to Dorfromantik caught my attention for Preserve. While I'm recommending Preserve, I'll point out that it's not quite to my taste and there's mechanics/UX I find lacking, but it's a beautiful game and still EA at this point so maybe things will get tweaked before release or you may enjoy the mechanics. Thoughts on things I didn't like: Unlike Dorfromantik, which has a somewhat rougelike progression with build-until-you can't UX, Preserve has progression based on getting a high score above a specified number with different tiers/difficulties, and the maps aren't endless you have to end up with a fully optimized map you made on the fly. On the larger maps it takes a long time before you realize your run is hopeless, which isn't a great UX. Another point is that the little mini puzzles in the alternative play style has a steep difficulty progression, but I could just be much less clever with puzzles than I think I am.

Always on the look out for games my children might enjoy, and this is one of them ticks so many boxes. They are 6 & 8 years old, and the complexity is just right for them. They love looking at the animals, and creating their habitats. Subtly educational in introducing the ideas of biomes & habitats. We enjoy it together.

I really enjoy playing this game, was looking forward to the release ever since I played the demo. There are different biomes and each of them has a different music, animals and flora and they also play differently which is nice to see in this kind of game. I bought the Early Access and it already feels like a full game in terms of content, including 3 different biomes and different modes. Looking forward to further updates and the final release, but it is already a great game!
