'Pocket Mirror ~ GoldenerTraum' is equal parts horrific, glamorous and charming. 'Pocket Mirror ~ GoldenerTraum' is immediately striking in its artistic direction. Right away, you are able to see their inspirations. They take influence from unabashedly feminine 90's shojo manga, a la the likes of Macoto Takahashi and Naoko Takeuchi, and give it an American Mcgee-esque makeover. The romantic, picturesque styling is juxtaposed with a horrific setting -- even the most gruesome of scenes being drawn and portrayed with a beautiful tint -- somehow mixing a vintage 'Nakayoshi' magazine with a Junji Ito psychological horror. As far as pixel art goes, this is one of, if not the best looking pixel art game I've played. The lovely styling is paired well with a score that complements it. I believe the story is strong. It reminds me in many ways of American McGee's 'Alice Madness Returns' in the best of ways. With motifs of dessert, Alice In Wonderland, royalty, pumpkins and religious iconography the overall aesthetic flavor of this game is very unique albeit reminiscent of a good many different things. I enjoy this aspect a lot, as it adds to the odd nostalgia of the game. It is a short game, which I appreciate. I found myself overlooking much of the gameplay just to pay attention to the art. The cutscenes are really gorgeous. You find yourself in multiple beautiful settings. The shortness of the game makes it so you can just take in the art and story, but I do find it to be a decent length. My main gripe with this game comes from the gameplay actually. The game is a bit directionless, prompting me to look for a guide multiple times for assistance. This alongside some finnicky controls is, if only slightly, a setback. All in all, play this game for a good story and a feast for the eyes along the way.

One of the best horror games I've played This game is amazing and deserves much more recognition. Everything is incredibly well done and carefully crafted by the developers. From the visuals, to the story and soundtrack, the entire game has a very mysterious and horror atmosphere that kept me interested the entire time. The story is definitely the most interesting part of this adventure, as you play with an unknown character that doesn't know her name and goes through this adventure to discover who she is. As you progress, you meet other characters and understand who they are and what this adventure is all about; and when it clicks and you figure out the relation of the characters to the protagonist, what the game's world is and entire purpose of this discovery, it's a true mind blowing moment. There are also a lot of hidden messages and symbolism behind a lot of scenes and dialogues that goes very very deep; most of it can be a bit hard to understand at first, but when you finally get to put the pieces together, man, it's deep. It's impossible to talk about the story without spoiling it, so I can only recommend you go ahead and play the game already! The gameplay mechanics are fairly simple as it's a RPG Maker game, but between all RPG Maker games that I've played, this one feels special because it has very good 2D artwork and a lot of cutscenes on top of an excellent soundtrack and sound effects that make the game even better and more immersive. Also, depending on your choices and actions, you may face all kinds of deaths. Paying attention to the puzzles and dialogues play an essential part of the system, and also lead to different endings. The game took me 8h to beat with one of the normal endings and there are still multiple endings to be unlocked. With it's deep and mysterious story, replaying the game looks like it's going to be a whole different feeling than when played it for the first time, and also unlocking the other endings. With it's very deep and mysterious story, good 2D visuals and excellent soundtrack and audio effects, I think it's an amazing game and one of the best horror games that I have ever played. Absolutely recommended!

A very grimm game that reminds me of Corpse Party, but with less blood and more mystery without the time bending. This is a niche game with a awesome art style and compelling story. It plays excellent on Deck. Overall a great pick up if you enjoy greatly made indie RPGMaker games.

To say I've played this game a lot is a understatement. But here's what I will say about it, it's wonderfully made and very beautiful artistically as it flows very well with the Victorian style Horror I feel from it. The story was compelling for me but negatively I will say that the ending(s) didn't do a very good job at explaining themselves and it made me want more from it. Overall I think this game is worth a play through, but I do hope you come back for more.

Honestly, play this game if you're a fan of rpgmaker/8-bit games, and horror. I personally enjoyed it because I loved games like Mad Father, Ib, etc. So I'd probably say get this game if you enjoy those types of games.
