Planetbase has become one of my favorite non-complex city/colony building games. I was shocked when this game received an update earlier this year as it felt as though Madruga had moved on to their other projects. However, they completely rebuilt this game in a new engine with seemingly no issues on the player's end! I'm hoping a Planetbase 2 or DLC with expanded resources and buildings, as well as some of the mechanics improvements that were put into Dawn of Man, is in the works. However, Planetbase still holds its own nearly 10 years later & I wholeheartedly recommend it!

Just WOW !! Didn't realize until this moment that I'd never left a review of this Outstanding game, that is truly one of my all-time Favorites. And, I've been playing it since launch in 2015. Is it Challenging? Check. Is it Rewarding? Check. But most importantly, Is it Fun? Check. From the helpful, hand-holding Tutorial to the brutally difficult advanced Challenges, I wholeheartedly recommend this one for your library. While, the early version of Planetbase had nice graphics for the times, the 2024 Update (experimental branch at the moment) is much sharper and up-to-date for newer rigs. Pleasing to see Madruga Works showing the dedication to revisit this strong game. Kudos! (FYI - the graphics even on Ultra don't push the GPU very hard, as my temps stay mostly in the 40's C range on a Sapphire RX 7800 XT at 3440 x 1440). Planetbase will test your skills, and your patience, since colonizing a new world can be very unforgiving of any lack of planning. The man -vs- the environment theme can be brutal when a meteor dials in one of your key facilities, taking much-needed personnel with it. My advice is to save Save SAVE, so that you can hopefully have a do-over. Planetbase is an excellent game and priced right for any budget. Enjoy! Cheers

Here's the bad. In the early stages of the game, you must babysit and micromanage your colony. It is very very easy to overbuild and end up in a power or food spiral. The AI seem to not have any sense of self preservation, so you will have to do it for them until you expand. The Good. This game just scratches an itch. It's the perfect little colony sim. The buildings are satisfying, the events are chaotic but well paced. Even in late stages you can do a stupid and kill your colony. I love this game and keep returning to it often. Definitely very easy to learn but only experience will make you prosper on here.

Not sure why I haven't review this but one of the ONLY games I would pre-order the sequel. I want more of this game. Just more. DLC...anything. I love this game. I love the atmosphere. One thing I love about city-builders and I'm a new convert, in regards to my entire game playing career and in fact I believe THIS game was trigger. But I love giving out multiple commands and hitting unpause and just watching them go. It's that Ant-Colony thing. I remember seeing some super cool ant colonies on some old old show. Mr Wizrards world or 3-2-1 Contact! or something like that where they had different containers of all shapes and sizes connected with clear tubing that the ants would go in between. I always loved that though never did build one. These are my little ant colonies. These games to me, the ones that simulate that, are the ones I love and this one with it's glass domes and what not is just great. ...just noticed Steam says I've only 7.3 hours...not sure how but it's much more. Downloaded the tiny amount of mods available even. Couple real good ones. People mention the AI and it can be tricky BUT what I've found after much research is, and I hate to say this, but your playing it wrong. There I said it. Listen to me know and believe me later. I'm telling that to my past self as much as anyone. You figure it out. Check the flowchart...or rather imagine their little brains flowchart. Really think about what they are doing as it pertains to the big picture.

I found this game really cool. The whole progression from small colony to big colony to space haven to robot kingdom is quite satisfying. The physicality of resources is really neat. However it's a bit hard because it's really easy to fall into one of the negative feedback loops ending in the colony inevitable death.
