A real classic by Key, and one of the safest choices if you want a short drama VN. Feels almost perfectly paced, with no scene wasted but also no part rushed. You might cry for the girl, you might cry for humanity, but even if you don’t cry at all, this is still a meaningful, thoughtful story to experience. The central planetarium scene in particular is just beautiful, both in presentation and its thematic implications. Post-apocalyptic settings are a dime a dozen in modern fiction, but you’d be hard-pressed to find one that conveys the tragedy of "what is" vs. "what could’ve been" so well. Also, while I can’t comment on the English translation, the original Japanese writing is great: rich, evocative, colorful yet not too flowery or indulgent (except maybe for a few military terms here and there).

Oof... how much can you cry about a robot? I feel like a complete idiot. But I absolutely loved it. After some getting used to the writing style and setting I was enjoying this story imensely. The voice acting is pretty good as well as the soundtrack and sound effects, it creates a good atmosphere. There isn't much to do of course, it's just a kinetic novel and you can read all of it in about 2,5 hours or less (I don't exactly remember how long the game idled in between), so honestly I think it's a bit overpriced. But I got it on sale some time ago and am not complaining.

A wonderful experience that showed me the full power of what a kinetic visual novel can do. While it's impossible to make a game solo this good, it did leave me wanting to make a game that could make people feel like this.

30 years ago, a Great War broke out, effectively ending the human race. The world with its small handful of remaining humans left is barely surviving the remnants of the war. Great, autonomous mechs known as Warmongers roam the cities and land, still wiping out anything with a heat signature and enemy machines. The cities they were ordered to defend, have long since been empty of any life they had to protect. It started raining toxic water 9 years ago, and since then, it’s never stopped for a single day. A solitary man infiltrates a dead, still-guarded city and stumbles on one of the few places left on Earth with air conditioning, untouched by the apocalypse outside. A Rooftop Planetarium, the sole occupant inside is a robot named Hoshino Yumemi, the last remaining employee. For the first time in his life, he sees the stars. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3132450926 2-3 hours to complete, Planetarian is a story-rich emotional kinetic novel that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. There are no choices to be made, only a story to be told. The CG’s are of good quality and the writing was excellent with no noticeable spelling errors. The music is a bit repetitive but overall, I had a positive and lovely experience. Despite its short length, it’s an easy KN to recommend. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3132451040
