Loved the first one a few years ago (I played on mobile) and just found out this one exists. After a bit of playing it's still good! It's really unfortunate to see it go under the radar for even me since I was a big fan of the first one. Edit: Pretend I said something new I'm doing this for the steam game awards badge

Overall, I like this game a lot. I wouldn't have put 20 hours into it if I didn't. There are some things it does really well, and a few things I would love to see expanded or improved upon. Let's get the obvious out of the way first - the art is great. It's probably why you're here reading reviews in the first place. However, the gameplay and the challenge aspect are what'll keep you playing for more than a dozen hours. This game works for me in a way that no other deck builder has, and I think the difficulty balancing has a lot to do with it. So far, I've beaten the first 6 tiers of difficulty out of 20, the first 4 of which really hit what I consider to be the sweet-spot of game difficulty, especially for the boss fights. I beat them on the first try, but it always felt like I was on the back foot and that the run was doomed unless I managed to pull off a crazy clutch. That way, the coolness factor never wore off due to repeated failures, but I still had to struggle for it and got the great feeling of beating the odds. My first fight against Time was a crazy intense nailbiter, though all the major bosses were tough in their own right. I like the story and the lore, I just wish there was more. In 20 hours, I've completed all of the main story events and endings, and all but a few extras/side stories. I would love to see more of what's going on in the world outside, especially surrounding the faction the cat belongs to. I also kind of wish there was some gameplay progression tied to storylines, like permanent bonuses for finishing an NPC storyline. Something to make you want to complete them for more than just for completion's sake. I'm also a sucker for lore, so that's something else I'd love to see more of. The game has some nice QoL features that let you see everything you've come across so far, like story events, enemies, cards, items, NPCs, etc. While this is great, I'd love to see it expanded upon with more detailed stats and flavour text for enemies and bosses, and maybe even hints on how to find missing entries for enemies, items, and story events. I'd also like to be able to access those screens during a run. There's a ton of unlockables and lots of stuff to grind for for people who want that, though some of the cosmetics require a frankly insane grind. Higher difficulties do start to get crazy difficult for people who like a challenge, and if you're a completionist or an achievement hunter, good luck. I feel like this could easily become a 100+ hour game if you're going for the more prestigious stuff, and I get the feeling that the novelty from gameplay variety will have worn off by then. I'd also like to say that the meta progression (powering up between runs) feels quite slow, weak, and limited, despite being fairly balanced as far as I can tell. Those nitpicks aside, I really have enjoyed this game so far, and I'll probably go for some more achievements before I call it quits. This was worth the money I paid for it, but if you're not sure about it, you can always decide to get it on sale.

This game is good enough to merit a positive review, but I really wish was better. It's strongest point has got to be the artwork/style and the general feel of the game. It's got this mysterious aura that really intrigued me. The story itself falls short. It's fragmented nature left me confused. It needed more character interaction and better flow to more accurately capture what I think it was trying to go for. On the other side, game-play is fun for the first few runs, but the difficulty starts too easy. By the time you get to more challenging difficulties, you've already seen most if not all of the cards and events. Not to mention the cards themselves feel way too samey. For the first four runs, this game is pretty good, and that's why I recommend it. But playing longer than that can feel repetitive and boring.
