Roberta Williams of King's Quest fame produced a gothic horror inspired adventure that captivated my imagination. A married couple searches to find the chilling secret hidden beneath a newly acquired haunted mansion that has a sordid history. The dialogue's pacing can drag on a bit. Moving from plot point to plot point can take some time. But Phantasmagoria's premise is solid, and produces a story that holds the players attention. Rated 7 out of 10.

Considering it's age it's held up pretty well. The storyline is linear. Object hunting & usage are straightforward. There was only 1 items usage that took me having to look it up and once you read it you'll smack yourself in the head. The FMV cutscenes, back in the day these were fantastic. Today they're a garbled pixellated mess. No hate as there's only so much that can be done to enable the game to run on current systems. This is one game out of a handful that I'd love to see get a remake.

This classic can come off as quite cheesy, compared to modern games, however I find that the cheesiness is all apart of the appeal. Not only was this a groundbreaking game for its time, but this game definitely has enough crazy story-line to keep the player invested (and horrified). Would also recommend the censored version for those more sensitive to gore. I normally am not phased by that kind of thing, however, they did not hold back on the practical effects and even I was surprised by some of the graphics lol

even though this is an old game, it is still fun and challenging. It is a long game with an exciting ending but does contain some violence and horror. I first played this game back in the 90s and was happy to find it was still available from Steam.

Remember when games came inside massive boxes? I do and I miss them! You have to take into account that this was a 1995 game and at that time, it was deemed one of THE most scariest games! 8 year old me was petrified as I watched my Dad play - and yet, I LOVE THIS GAME!! The nostalgia for me is unreal! IF you want a classic point and click horror (and somewhat suspect acting), this is for you :) IF you want top of the range graphics, with the highest quality of sound and ray tracing etc... then no. This is NOT for you. Excuse me as I hunt for The Dig, Shivers, Ripper, and Frankenstein (Tim Curry!) to relish in more 90's Nostalgia!!!
