I love Penny Arcade, or, at least, I love the 2000s era of the webcomic, before they got really big. It was wild, and free and weird, just like the Internet was in those days. The joked about everything and anything, all from a perspective of gamers, and that resonated with me. These games (I'm going to copy the review, or parts of it, to all four episodes) are not exactly that, but they evoke the same emotions and atmosphere, with a healthy dose of Lovecraftian horror. Episodes 1 and 2 are very light RPG games, with real time combat and a neat 3D visual style. Episode 3 is a straight up JRPG, while Episode 4 is a JRPG/Pokemon kind of game. All four games follow the same story, which starts off like a fairly classic Lovecraftian RPG in Episodes 1 and 2, but transforms into something much much weirder in 3, and especially 4. The ending of Episode 4 is completely worth it, and I was very happy after I played through all the games. The massive change of visual style between the first two and last two episodes can put some people off, but it didn't really bother me. Ultimately, this whole series is something I would recommend to PA webcomic fans, but also to people who are looking for a fresh dose of weirdness, even if they never heard of the comic. The story, setting and characters are just perfect, whereas the gameplay is a secondary concern.
