Got this for Halloween and loved it so much that I played through twice. I only wish the lore was a bit more expansive but otherwise this is cute fun with beautiful graphics. I need more photography games

Very cute little Pokemon Snap style game, the systems are simple but effective, and the game is oozing with charm.

It’s difficult to not compare Penko Park to Pokemon Snap and even harder to judge the two without nostalgia getting in the way. However, what Penko Park excels at is replayability. You will have to complete the stages multiple times to progress through the story, but the unlockable tools and features are interesting enough to keep things fresh. I am also impressed with the overall quality of this game, especially when you take into account that the developers didn’t have an established IP to center the game around.

A whimsical entry in the sub-genre of animal/creature collection games, where you are sent through various biomes/regions in an abandoned theme park, attempting to take pictures of all the bizarre fauna that dwell within and along the way try to figure out the (sorta dark/unhappy) story of the park and its shuttering. The art style is like pale construction paper cut-outs, similar to a faded National Film Board of Canada vignette from the late 70's/early 80's (if you know what I mean), which lends it an exaggerated, somewhat grotesque children's book atmosphere. Overall the game is quite enjoyable, but I do have some quibbles.... Positives: *Art Style* I dig it, but not everyone will. *Gameplay* Mostly fun and entertaining, with that vague undercurrent of grim unease running through the game, but the gameplay is also a negative feature (see below). Snapping pictures of the various beasties in assorted poses (yes, in order to get 100% completion, multiple creatures must be captured in multiple poses, such as growling, smiling, flying away, etc etc) is enjoyable, up to a point.... Meh: The music is a little meh, and while the art style is generally appealing to me, after awhile the faded out colour scheme does get a little too drab for the game's own good. Negatives: *Gameplay* You are literally on rails (running on a theme park/zoological attraction train ride) and even though new discoveries will unlock new abilities which enable you to find new branching paths and new creatures, over the course of the game (if you want to 100% it) you will see the same trails/tracks many, many, many, many, many, many times. So, what began as enjoyable fun, slowly but surely becomes drudgery by the last couple hours of the game. Whether that's enough to turn you off of the game is up to you. So, a largely entertaining game with some pleasing attributes, hampered by the eventually repetitive (to put it mildly...) nature of its level design/gameplay. I did have fun, so I'm absolutely going to recommend it, but it's not a flawless game by any stretch of the imagination.

While it may seem repetitive on paper at first, the developers have done a great job of throwing unlocks at you as you explore the different locations trying to grab secrets, photograph the eclectic creatures in different positions, and fill up your guidebook.
