I really think this game could be phenomenal if the developers could fix some of the "indie jank". It plays just like Zoo Tycoon as far as I remember, and really delivers on the promise of making a zoo for dinosaurs. The art is cute enough, the music is pleasant--I appreciate how the music changes to mischievous as an audio cue when a dino gets loose. Unfortunately you have to push through some confusing and unintuitive learning curves to understand the gameplay loop. The first couple campaign levels don't guide you through the gameplay, so much as tell you to do X and then you're on your own to put the pieces together. The challenge says "unlock a dino" or "make X amount of money", and I found myself googling basic questions like "how do I unlock a dino" and "how to feed bushes". There is no logic to guide the player to go to the egg store to unlock a dino with science and hearts, then search for fossils in order to get footprints, then buy the right type of gem at the gem store, then go back to the egg store and buy an egg with footprints and gems... if you forget after being explained to once, you're SOL. This is an example of an illogical gameplay mechanic that is poorly explained that the player is forced to figure out. I still routinely run out of food because I can't figure out how to feed higher quality food, I think it's something to do with the feeders? If you can get over the hurdle of figuring out how to play, the gameplay loop is rewarding and enjoyable. But the developers could do more to help the player get there. For that reason I recommend you get the game on sale and consider it an "indie jank" discount.

I really enjoyed this game. It’s simple, effective and fun. I did an in-debt evaluation more for the developers than for future players. It’s split in 4 sections, Things I liked, Suggestions, Bugs, Things I wish was. THINGS I LIKED Variety of dinos The DNA components Colorful graphics Color customization of items and dinosaurs (when you get to that technology) The fossils components Exhibit creation SUGGESTIONS Safari for guest. Either by Jeep, train, helicopter (?) New staff, Tour guides DNA science. Perhaps through the tech tree, get at some points a machine that allow you to breed to Dino from the same group and mix some of their features. More types of rocks and terrain that increase biodiversity. In that category, you could add dead roots instead of in "trees" that requires water. Staff tab is missing a column with hats, same column in the dino tab. It would make easier to keep track of who has a hat. An Exhibit tab would be useful to see the overall appeal of an enclosure, area size, you could put the biodiversity health in there, type of biomes, number of dinos in the exhibit, themes used! Traits for Dino that could give bonuses or disadvantages to appeal and such (a bit like the hats but better) friendly, shy, playful, savage, boring, curious, glutton, big, tiny, mutant, smart, cute, creepy, etc. Themes suggestions: Faeric - Faerie flying Rocky - Stonehenge? Garden - flowers sprouts all over Geiser - a geiser. Water could become colorful like in Yellowstone Alien - crash spaceship, saucers flying around Permafrost - icy mountain top, snow everywhere Mushroom - big mushrooms Crystalized - big towering amethyst - crystals sprouts around the enclosure Sulfuric - gooey puddle, water turns green Farmhouse - chicken runs around, pile of hay New biome/species FLIGHT - with a completely closed off enclosure and flying species of dinos, Quetzalcoatlus, Pterodactylus, Dimorphodon, Rhamphorhynchus, Pteranodon, Argentavis! GIANT INSECTS - most I say more? Meganeuropsis, Manipulator Modificaputis, Arthropleura, Jaekelopterus, Anomalocaris canadensis, Pulmonoscorpius! CRYPTID - oh yeah. Going there. Yeti, Loch Ness monster, kraken, peluda, brosno dragon, vegetables lamb of tartary (as a plant for the biome), Basan, Chupacabra, dingonek, emela-ntouka, bunyip Other weird Dinos : helicoprion, TERROR BIRDS, Andrewosaurus, terminator pigs, titanoboa, elasmotherium, gigantopithecus, GIANT SQUID BUGS When you tranquilize a dino, you can sometimes duplicate it when putting it back in a encloser Dinos can get stuck in decor or terrain and they get hungry and sick. You have to tranquilize them to unstuck them IF your security guard can get to it. THINGS I WISH FOR Lack of theme items/lack of different themes The elevation tools needs a little work. There's no high strength glass/aquatic exhibit fences. There's also only one type of "private" fence with a medium strength which is limiting for the "Security" theme. Putting in walkways can become easily time consuming and a headache. I wish you could drag and drop them like you do with streets. Also, you can't put anything on them (bench, lights, deco, DONATION BOXES)... You can put string lights but only on the long straight parts. You can't put them on stairs and short walkways. Food is not very intuitive. Big like leaves, medium like bush, small like grass and everyone like plants. Later in game, you can just give everyone plants or meat and not bother about the type of food. It's a bit weird to give "bushes" to an aquatic dino. The variety of plants and rocks for enclosure quickly become lacking. Also it Would be nice to have some stuff specific to a biome or a theme. There's too many types of feeders for what you really need at the end. Again, every dinos will go to a feeder that has the type of food they want. It's a bit difficult to figure out what will attract the guests to a far away enclosure. For my last game and last achievement missing (tycoon) I just created 3 huge enclosures, one Grass (forest), one mud (Tundra) and one sand (prairie) and split dinos by tile types. A dino that likes rainforest will do just fine in a forest biome. I split the ocean/carnivores in enclosures with the remaining place I had left. I thought I could put two "big" carnivores together, NOP. Don't put carnivores together lol Not really sure if you really need to bother with shelters... Lots of hats with cool perks but if you need the appeal.... You'll have to replace them all with the same 3 hats. When the day ends.... Every window you were looking at closes. So if you were trying to buy eggs or digging for fossils, that will close down when the day ends. Not sure what the calendar is useful for. Dinopedia is nice but hard to navigate. It needs some filters or a search function. It would be nice to have a bit of real info on the dino you're looking at. A bit of educational content! DinoBook... I forgot it existed. It would be nice to see the day before in the Overview to compare the current day with the previous one (with the map, otherwise you can do that in finances) Nobody is going to the tikki hut. I only put one for objectives or achievements. Same with Human Herbivores and Butterly. The building tab, I don't really use it. It's too clunky. Every item is listed there from resto to every single bench. Some of the buildings are way too big. They get difficult to place. The water should spread more or less depending on the biome its in. That way, Rainforests would feel more "full" and desert more sparse. Cactus should be able to be place accross desert. I'd love to have a wider variety of "ancient" plant that increase realism. Themes: more spookiness please for spooky theme! More mist. Eyes in the dark.. Prehistoric feels lacking compared to other themes. Maybe add insects flying? I wish Exhibits could take the name of the biome by default instead of just "new exhibit" That's it!

I've played 102 hours of this game so far and I love it so much! It's very relaxing and whimsical and there's so many cute dinosaurs! The dlc's are great too! Adding in water dinos is amazing. The only thing I would add to the game is a map that's big enough for all dinos to live in their preferred numbers for their species (4 dinos for most of them) and still be able to fit all dinos in one park; basically bigger maps. I really love this game and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a relaxing organizational sim. Also the dinos get to wear hats! *happy dinosaur noises!!*

Listen up, nerds: this is the game you want to scratch that early 00s Zoo Tycoon itch. That said, I ran into multiple bugs in my 50 hours of game play but they almost always were fixed by reloading the game. Keep that in mind when you go hardcore and want that Parkasaurus achievement.

Silly little game with silly little dinosaurs!! I bought this at least one year ago, and although I haven't played it super often, it's still very enjoyable. Though I've encountered multiple bugs (some of which have been patched since it seems) there's a good variety of dinosaurs to unlock. Even without the DLC(s) there is plenty of content. Being able to genetically engineer dinosaurs, keep up with finances, decorate, manage your guests, etc. - all the basic elements of a zoo sim and more. I would certainly recommend it!!
