Painkiller Hell and Damnation is a retro arcade shooter which harkens back to the days of old for first person shooters. Cut your ways through mindless hordes of enemies using an array of guns and strafing. Overall the game is visually appealing and the cutscenes are very well done in terms of conveying what minimal story the game has. And this is the games main fault, in essence its story is very minimalistic, not that it represents a genre strong in this regard but if a first person shooter is to be centralized around single player gameplay then the main story should be engaging. Multiplayer is also an option with this game although it seems an afterthought. Regardless this game delivers on action and is a fast paced shooting experience. Recommended for casual play or those wanting to pick up something that will take them back to the older days of FPS.

Painkiller: Hell & Damnation remains a timeless classic, delivering unadulterated gaming bliss. A refreshing throwback to an era where games focused solely on entertainment, free from extraneous distractions. A true testament to the power of straightforward, skill-driven gameplay, this title continues to captivate audiences with its intense action and uncompromising challenge. If you're seeking an unapologetically fun gaming experience, look no further.

overall decent. story is short, you can beat it in two days. Get all the DLC. This game is a nice remix of levels and some of the challenges are fun. The cutscene in the train station is funny. I think the decision to sell the original game levels as DLC was a bad move. There is also no connection to Overdose, Resurrection or the others. You may like it, you may hate it. It's cheap and not a bad spend for $15. Or you can ignore me. I like it though.

This game, reminiscent of classic shooters like Doom and Duke Nukem with a modern twist, delivers a blast of pure, unadulterated fun – albeit in a short-lived package. While the campaign lacks depth and narrative complexity, the inclusion of massive DLC packs (albeit lacking narrative connection and replayability) extends the experience considerably. However, the slicing of content into DLC feels like a blatant cash grab. The absence of inventory management, resource gathering, quick-time events, and even a reload button creates a streamlined focus on pure action. It's a "you vs. them" experience that's undeniably enjoyable in short bursts. Unfortunately, the online multiplayer seems deserted, making co-op a friend-dependent affair.

Concise reviews for the Painkiller series in order of what you should play Painkiller Black Edition : Great oldschool no messing around shoot things from point A to B using a variety of weapons, for such and old game the gunplay (especially the shotgun) is strangely satisfying. Painkiller Hell & Damnation : A remake of the OG and as a result, it is a solid entry worth playing, albeit similar. A lot of changes were made some for the best some watering down the experience, but ultimately if you like the the first game this is worth a play. Painkiller Overdose : Most significant entry after the original+remake, not as streamlined but does improve in some areas, mainly level/area design is quite varied and interesting. Decent-ish gunplay and still worth a play if you're somewhat invested into the series at this point, enjoy it cause it's a very fast downhill from here. Painkiller: Recurring Evil : Like drinking a lukewarm coke it's not like the actual technical gameplay is "bad" but it doesn't have the right conditions to thrive into anything enjoyable, just getting locked into a room and killing everything until you move to the next room. Rinse/repeat until credits roll. Environments are at least passable, and at least some green is present. Painkiller Redemption : just endless endless endless beige walls locking you into some sort of psyhoclogical torture method having to kill 1000 enemies until you are allowed to see your new mental confinment in the next beige wall with slightly darker textures. It's like recurring evil but i actually fell asleep playing this at one point. Painkiller: Resurrection : You'll need Painkillers after consuming this absolute pisswater, it's like everything wrong with modern AAA games with massive open worlds/maps with nothing interesting to do expect wander to the next objective apart from this game doesn't have any of the triple AAA budget to draw you in with fancy graphics and animations so you end up with what feels like a really bad fever dream with game ruining bugs every so often.
