Pac-Man Arrangement is the only real reason I bought this, but everything else ranges to great at best (Pac-Man 256) to absolute trash that no one should play (looking at you PAC-IN-TIME). But even then, I would still recommend this, but maybe wait for a sale.

For the TL;DR: Great collection at a price point steal, mediocre presentation quality, fair game selection (popular and obscure) and nice customizable extras albeit a lot feels missing from making it the essential package. There's a lot to break down for this collection so I wanted to break it down to a pros and cons list: PROS: - Amazing game selection across Pac-Man's history, from the well known to the more obscure. This is the first time the Wii Pac-Man games from Namco Museum Remix/Megamix are included in a collection outside of the original - Pac-Man Arrangement (1996) included. best pac-man ever with pac-man CE DX - Alternating 2-player modes from the original arcade games retained - Save feature for continuing later across most games - Arcade HUB is fun to customize, is presented very well - Online leaderboards and in-game missions add replayability to all the games CONS: - Game emulation/porting quality is poor: --- Classic games have audio latency, audio splicing --- Input lag (most notable in some games like Pac-Mania and Pac-Man CE) --- Modern games like Pac-Man CE are missing visual effects or have awkward sound mixing --- Classic games are not pixel perfect/use interger scaling, games use bilinear filter with cheap video settings - Ms. Pac-Man's complete erasure. Not only is the Ms. Pac-Man game notably missing, but the character has been edited out of all the games she was previously featured in; the character is replaced by a stand-in design, which ALSO effects Jr. Pac-Man and Baby Pac-Man. these changes make the collection's presentation inaccurate to Pac-Man's history in various ways. what the hell are you doing bandai namco - Arcade games are missing game options from their original releases - All arcade/SNES games (sans Pac-Man and Pac-Attack) are based on their Japanese releases instead of the international versions. While it may not seem much, games like Pac-Mania are lengthier than usual. Pac-In-Time is especially notorious for this, considering the Super Famicom version is much harder to finish compared to the international version. Another factor to Pac-In-Time is that it features Japanese text with translated subtitles overlaying them, despite the international versions having already existed with a translation. - Some missions require excessive grinding, most especially Pac-Man 256 - No online play Overall a fair collection with some oddities! I would recommend this if you're a Pac-Maniac like me; but if you're nitpicky over detail, I'd otherwise recommend to Pac-Away for the next collection or settle with the Arcade Archives releases on PS4/Switch.

The OG pacman port is pretty bad and doesn't feel... Right. Sounds are way off too. The rest of the games aren't bad, and in fact, comes with Pacman 256 which is a great time waster and Champ edition (NOT DX+ which some people prefer over standalone so may be worth it to you!) I started playing this on game pass and ported my save over, so I have like 4 missing hours from my game time. For 10 bucks, it's a good deal. For 20... Eh. I'd say wait. The fact original Pacman is a bad port sucks. Some of these I never played before and was kinda interesting to check out for 10-30 minutes. What's kinda annoying is that you HAVE to play some games to unlock more. Lame.

Solid Conditional Buy - Only buy when on Sale unless the following caveats don't matter to you. While this game contains a wealth of fun Pac-Man games that showcase just how much Namco has innovated the iconic formula throughout the ages, ( My personal favorites being Pac-Man Arrangement (1996), Pac Land, and Pac Mania; which were my reason for buying it. ) it sadly is not without some major flaws. A lot of these games aren't available immediately and need to be unlocked first, thankfully the unlock requirements are trivial: just play the available games a few times first. Also this is no Namco Museum of Playstation fame either, as the game lacks the whole museum aspect ( no history write up, no scans of promotional materials, no photos of the main board, no trivia, etc. ) and also lacks the ability to access and change the dip switch settings of each arcade machine to your preferred difficulty, starting lives, level select, extend thresholds, etc. which may rightfully be a deal breaker for retro arcade enthusiasts. Some of the games also require virtual coins to play, which seems annoying but are earned quickly enough that it becomes a non-issue unless you splurge on collectibles.

If you're looking for a decent collection of Pac-Man games this is pretty good for $20. (Pac-Man, Pac-Man 256, Pac-Man CE are nearly $20 separately.) --Just a fair warning that if you're expecting to play 2 player games or even 4 player games it's not possible as far as I can figure out... which is kind of disappointing. --If you play games for achievements or 100% you're in for a grind, and the majority of your playtime will be Pac-Man 256.
