5/10 there's nothing very exceptional about this game but there is also nothing seriously wrong with it

I would give this game a 3.8 out of 5. It is fun to get more tech and manage your population, and the number of challenges make it enjoyable however it appears that the developers had no ideas for any end game. By week 11 I had all the tech, too many people and my storage sheds were overflowing with resources. I had so many wind turbines that when the toxic winds came, they generated enough power that my batteries were constantly at the maximum charge. I recommend playing the game as long as you realise that it is really an endless sandbox game.

I am writing this review after 3 hours with a bit of mixture feeling. This game immediately remembered me of Frostpunk, with one big difference: It lacks of a good story. I like the dystopian atmosphere and the partially upcoming time pressuring tasks, which are all somehow missed opportunities in creating a campaign mode. This game is a game without a goal, which I find it a bit of sad honestly speaking. Don't get me wrong here. I do like playing it and the tasks are motivating a bit to reach some goals and build up your city and evolving technology. But it really could have been a nice storytelling especially with the trees like "recover this city to save humanity" or "in 30 days a super mega storm will hit your place and until then build shelter and supply your people for 3 days until the worst part is over". A good example and a very similar game is Frostpunk, which do all of these kind of little storytelling things. If the developer reads it: please go for a story DLC or add an campaign mode which would highly upgrade the game experience. Based on the lack of the campaign part I would only recommend that this game is bought within a sale. Not full price worth until we receive a story part.

A decent game but with some flaws. I played 33 hours on normal and found that the game has no end (or a final goal), so I can say that there were 30 hours of play and 3 of boredom. A bit short (I researched all the areas, I have all the research upgrades). Yes, I can play the other maps too but... what's the point? The trade system is completely useless, it comes too late in the game, when it comes I already have all the resources. Final conclusion: I recommend the game, I liked it, but it is very short.

Simplest and shortest reason I've kept playing this game for so long; I like simple-ish city builders, like that I can play indefinitely because it has no endgame other than see how long you can survive. Longer explanation: It's not as hard as Banished imho, in Banished you have to think out ALL city projects and where resources come from and where they go to and why. In Oxygen, it's all about Energy Consumption vs Oxygen bubbles and making it so you can effectively expand indefinitely. So if you want a more challenging game and don't mind Medieval theme, go with Banished. Otherwise, play Oxygen, it's the closest thing to banished that I could find on Steam that isn't Medieval themed.
