Rarely do I start a review like this, but coincidentally, I reviewed a game like this that had similar problems, newer, but roughly the same issues if you will I will mention it a bit later in this review But what is Overlord-Escape from Nazarick you ask? Whether it's cannon or not to the anime (Bear in mind I am at the very beginning of Season 4) Overlord-Escape from Nazarick sees you play as a villian from Season 1 named Clementine, you've been captured by Ainz Ooal Gown and his minions and have on top of that, lost all your equipment and memories Your job, fight your way through, recover your memories, and make it out alive The fan service is definitely there, and the dialogue is very much reminiscent of the show While maybe not the most memorable weapons or upgrades (which is what some Metroidvania games are known for), what makes this game shine for the most part is its fan service You'll fight everyone and anyone under the Nazarick umbrella. From the Pleiadies maids like Gamma and Beta to Demiurge, Albedo and Sheltear, as all of these are bosses, along with Ainz's many monstrous underlings However, what really makes this game good for fans at least is the ability to EXPLORE Nazarick and we get to dig around the keep of Ainz as we gather memories, spells, weapons and try to survive Now, all of this would be fine and dandy and make for a GREAT game right? Well, while good in some ways and definately for the fans, this game is sadly not without it's flaws and shortcomings. And quite frankly, Ainz would be quite mad, to put it humorously At it's heart, Overlord-Escape from Nazarick is a 2D Metroidvania, and it checks all the boxes, fun backtracking for secrets and to advance the game? Check, gathering abilities as you go? Check And there's not really any bugs or major design related problems with the game The problem is? I recently and coincidentally reviewed Rugrats-Adventures in Gameland, and the reason I bring that up? Because both of these games suffer from the unfortunate issues of unbalanced difficulty and being way too short Don't get me wrong while I do like this game well enough to warrant a purchase and it IS faithful at making you feel like you are in the world of the anime (Written and overlooked by the series creator too, so that helps) The issue I have is that , just like with Adventures in Gameland, the game is WAY too easy on easy, normal feels like easy, and hard is what is only the proper approach for a challenge is to play this on hard going in blind Fan service and well design maps and all that exploration is good and all, but it can't save the game from getting docked down a few points Plus, at 30 dollars, you'd think maybe just maybe, the developers would've been nice enough to include an episode or two to watch of the show, at LEAST maybe the ones that feature Clementine and the fights with her That or maybe a few playable bosses as unlockables and the like At LEAST maybe clips from the show But sadly, there's none of that. No extra modes, no boss rush, and sadly very little replay value. Not much extra content either unfroatunely Again, especially since I reviewed Adventures in Gameland recently like I just said earlier, I am aware licensing isn't cheap, and I am also aware they are both technically different games but they suffer from the same problem And for once, I can re use a point I made in a review The best recommendation I can give for this game overall? I do recommend it, just like I did with Adventures in Gameland, but only a TAD less, only because there's not as much extras, in short Gameland is only better by a SMALL margin. Both are good, but I ABSOLUTELY suggest you get both of these games on sale or, in Overlord's case, if you have the 30 to spare when you get a chance, because as we all know, licensing is a bitch and as we all know, this game will get delisted eventually so in case there isn't a final sale, you may have to bite the bullet otherwise.

Overall a Great side scroller with amazing pixel art. Would recommend waiting for a sale unless you're a fan of the Anime.

I don't know why there is so much Hate in this game, controls? It's literally just changing the settings, Resolution? there's already a guide showing how to solve this (or just play in 720p); The only problem I had was a bug in morningstar but so far it hasn't bothered me much

Awesome game. it's not a huge game, but it doesn't need to be. it just needs to be well thought out. and not some mobile game trash ported to steam. see bandai namco this is how you do a anime based game. yes I am referring to that turd you released based on "That time I got reincarnated as a slime" Bandai namco does a great job with DBZ, Naruto, SAO, etc. but pump out that turd. when it should have been more like this game right here.

Im not sure why people are crapping on the game. So far, its been a really great game. Its got great visuals, the music and sound effects are nice, the controls feel fluid... The ONLY problem Ive seen with it so far is perhaps the price tag. 30 dollars for this seems a BIT overpriced, it would be more on par with a 20 dollar game. I would definitely get it on sale, but if you do, I doubt you will regret it. It also has one big point in its favor and that is the ability to play as the great Lady Clementine.
