Very good game, but once you finish there's nothing to do, i'd like a rebirth system or more systems. Please give us more content.

Wilx100% (Aug 3, 2024) - I thought it was gonna be a idle game since I said a experimental clicker base building game, but I was so wrong, yeah you can build a bunch of things to automate each island and make a bunch of money and whatnot. But they had me working TO THE BONE to get to a stage where it was truly idling. But overall pretty fun game where you exploit each island for their resources to get bunch of money in order to exploit even more with more efficiency. I would rate this game a 7/10.

A lot of people compare this game to Forager, which is part of the reason I was interested in the game in the first place, but something about the trailer for the game engrossed me. So I put it on my wishlist. I bought the game on sale, told myself that I'd get around to playing it, maybe dip my toes into it later that night. So I did. I fell in love with the game. It has everything I'd wish for. The progression is cathartic, the music is atmospheric, the art style immaculate.. In the two hours I sunk into my first session, I already fully cleared the first island. Every time I would think "Y'know, it would be nice if I could do [insert feature here]" it's as if the dev, a lovely guy by the name of David, already thought of it. Things like Hold to click are presented as an accessibility option from the start, while auto swapping is found later on. The presentation of these abilities, as well as the means by which you can improve some of them is absolutely incredible. I mentioned previously playing Forager. While the game is nice and satisfies an idle game/farm sim/sandbox/exponential number game itch of mine, it's not without its flaws. I feel as though Outpath looked at Forager and other games similar to it and in its creation, addressed the flaws those games have. You're able to speed up machine operations fairly early on. moving is intuitive, including the fancy wall running and vaulting you can pull off, inventory management has been a non-issue. The objectives the game lays out for you aren't something like "get one of every item in the game" or "get an absurd amount of this resource." Rather, the game shows off four items at a time and expects you to learn how to get these items with your ever-expanding toolset, letting you explore your options and see what each island brings. With all this glowing praise, I do have some slight critique for Outpath, though my criticisms are minor nitpicks that I may just get used to in the time I'm no doubt going to sink into the game. Food in the early game is a bit hard to come by, which might slow down the game a bit. Eating fibers helps, but a part of me wishes I didn't have to eat a crafting material I feel I might need in the near future. Moving between the islands, at least at my point in progression, requires expending energy/hunger to traverse. Perhaps there's a tool or other option that'll mitigate this issue that I just haven't gotten to yet? Or maybe moving between islands is something that I have to think about doing and not just consider the growing archipelago to be one ever-expanding base, instead having multiple bases of operations. Finally, the hunger fading effect. I'm just not a fan. I get that it acts as a warning that you're low on food, but it's really just something that distracts me. tl;dr, this game is great. One that I'll be sinking a lot of time into trying to 100%.

”This is just like Forager!” Welcome to Outpath. A game about making stuff after gathering stuff with stuff that you made with stuff from stuff that you gathered. If you play this game, be ready to do a lot of making and gathering one could say. Others might say “this is just like forager!” and they wouldn´t be entirely wrong. If you heard of neither Outpath nor Forarger, stay tuned, because here goes the review: It’s not just forager! Forager is a game that released in April 2019. It is a top-down 2.5D crafting adventure where you expand your starting island to different biomes with different resources and different goals. You do so by paying for the land with a currency called credits that you earn trough crafting and gathering the stuff mentioned in the beginning. You manage your hunger with early items like berries and oranges, improve on it with beets and wheat, craft basic tools from refined materials and unlock magic and much more through further crafting. Your endgoal is to defeat four dungeons and complete some collections of items. Outpath on the other hand released in Oktober 2023. It is a first person crafting adventure where you expand your starting… wait a moment! Okay, let’s jump in further into the text: You manage your hunger with early items like berries and…. Hey, this is getting redicoulus!... Ah, wait, here’s another difference: You goal is to complete a collection of items and gain enough credits to earn 4 shards of a broken item that you have to fix through crafting. See? I told you it’s not just forager! Jokes aside, yes, these games are VERY similar. Downright to the items, choice in sprite style and general mechanics, depictions of the skilltree and more. But this doesn’t take away from Outpath and at the same time solidifies, why Forager was a decently addictive game. Atomization, the feeling of constantly creating MORE and MORE stuff is exciting and… well… some people might get bored of it, but there’s actually a decent amount of systems to learn and service at all times. Aside from gameplay, how does it run? Outpath runs fine on most machines. The graphical needs aren’t too high and even weaker laptops will get a playable experience out of it if you play with the settings as usual. There are also a few assistant features that are nice and I highly recommend to widen your FOV to avoid nausea to do the increasingly faster gameplay and visual impact this game gets to towards the late game. The sound design can be quite penetrating on your ears and the music is going to get stuck in your head due to looping a bit more than I’d like, but overall this aspect is totally fine. So is it good? I’d say yes. There’s a relatively obvious gameplay loop and new content in just the right pacing which leads to a good and simply enjoyable time. I’d also say this game likely isn’t for everyone as the lack of directions can be sudden if you get stuck not knowing what the next step could be and the overall grind can become a slow endeavour, boring out some. The risk for motion sickness also is high with this game due to some camera movements and positioning, especially in case of “climbing” and other collision events. It also all feels a bit “just there” and less connected than it could be and the feeling of playing a 1st person close of Forager never fully goes away if you played that before. BUT, this also means in inherits most of the good trades that Forager had, like the crafting system, item variety, no hand-holding, on-and-off gameplay (pause and pick up whenever) and general survival system. So is this a recommendation? Yes. BUT be aware of the flaws and make sure to also pick up Forager if you decide to play this. Because in the end, this game lends itself so much from Forager, it would feel disingenuous to not recommend playing that aswell or maybe even first. The biggest difference really comes down to this: If you like “dungeons” and 2.5D with a bit more grid-based gameplay, Forager will excite you more. If you like 1st person stuff and the feeling of verticality in a game as well as being more “in there”, then Outpath will be for you. If you like these games in general, just play them both!
