You can get drunk enough that you summon a dog to murder 50% of the enemies on the map. Edit: As it turns out you can also summon a drone to murder the remaining 50% of the enemies on the map.

The brainchild of Hotline Miami and Hades. If you liked both of those games, you'll like this. It has the art direction and play "feel" you'll recognize from Hotline Miami. Plus the color palette of a newspaper, and an appropriately energetic soundtrack for its genre. The gunshot sounds are punchy, the enemies are stupid (but plenty lethal), and the level design lends to an impression that while you may die and die again, THEY are trapped in this labyrinth with YOU. The progression strongly reminds me of Hades, with boosters, challenging fights, and the goal to reach the other end of the underworld (mansion) without dying. Gripes so far: Characters and dialogue aren't great. The tutorial hand-holding and general "I guess I should introduce myself"/main character amnesia are a bit painful. But the gameplay makes up for that as far as I'm concerned. When you die you don't have the R to Respawn option immediately. You gotta wait, skip a screen, and choose where you wanna spawn back in at. This could be streamlined. Please let this be streamlined. PLEASE Gud game. Will continue playing

It's funny how the biggest challenge in the game is not to drink alcohol, just like in the real life

You already know that it takes inspiration from Hotline Miami, John Wick, Max Payne, and all that fancy gunfu media. HOWEVER, the main thing that got me into this game was Midnight Animal. For those that do not know the infamous Midnight Animal story to sum up, guy named Spencer Yen made a fanmod for Hotline Miami 2 that looked so good that even the devs of Hotline Miami gave it the seal of approval and wanted to help. But certain issues within Yen's life happened and the pressure built on him and lack of communication within the fandom lead to disaster and the death of Midnight Animal. Then OTXO came along where Spencer Yen himself assisted in the creation of OTXO where you can see certain creative liberties by him and even an easter egg was left as a way to respect Yen. OTXO is a fun game and surprisingly difficult where despite me finishing this game over and over, I still die at certain points in the game due to the fast pace combat. Overall OTXO are the remnants of Midnight Animal but is still a great game by itself. Story is kinda all over the place though.

OTXO (Pronounced Ot-Cho) is a Hotline Miami-inspired roguelike with a banging soundtrack. That's the gist of it, both good and bad. The plot is somewhere between vague and non-existent. You play as a nameless male character that puts on a mask and ends up on an island with a large mansion situated in the middle. There's a few NPCs you may interact in the hub area, however all they say is that the island is a kind of purgatory. The game smooths out some of the annoyances Hotline had, such as enemies one-shotting you from across the map via addition of a health bar and a rolling mechanic. In addition, there's bullet time, which is meant to be used conservatively. My only gripe is that it suffers from the general issues other roguelikes have, in that RNG dictates most of your run. The floors are largely static with similar enemy positions, but the upgrades (served as drinks at a bar) are random and end up shaping you run. The overall gameplay loop consists out of going through the floors until you find some new enemy or boss and get sent back to the first floor, occasionally finding a new weapon that can be utilised in later runs. One part I'd like to commend is the sound design, specifically the weapons and the OST. While Hotline had a lot of smaller artists doing the individual tracks, OTXO has a single composer with a more coherent techno beat. It's genuinely pretty good club music. In addition, while I appreciate the limited colour palette, it did get somewhat excessive in later levels where the low contrast areas made it basically impossible to figure out what is going on. I'd say it's good fun, but the game could use a few quality of life features. For example, the roguelike element is somewhat jeopardised by save scumming. It would be neat if that got patched out via autosave system, but would still offer a more "forgiving" mode for people that want to see all the levels.
