Please, go into this game blind, do not let the magic be ruined for you. This game holds a lot in my heart because of the magic it delivers. This is by and far one of the most beautiful RPG maker games ever, from the story, to the visuals, to the music. This remade edition adds quite a few amazing things to seek out and explore while experiencing this game. Being able to experience this game once again on the Steam Deck has been a wonderful experience. Please do not skip over this game, it's worth every penny you put in. I do recommend trying out the 2016 original before this, but this is a really good edition of the game still.

Well it's OneShot, and OneShot is peak, so naturally this rerelease is peak. But I would like to make a few complaints regarding what they did here, and I'll let you decide whether they're just nitpicks. First of all there's just something that kinda bothers me about this rerelease on a conceptual level. I really don't want to spoil too much about OneShot for anyone not in the know, so let's just say the original Steam release was built to take advantage of the platform it was on. It's all been recreated as closely as possible within the new virtual desktop, but it's just not nearly as cool when it's not your own desktop that it's taking advantage of. And just the fact that this game has a virtual desktop at all kinda spoils the whole surprise, when you boot the game up and see the desktop I think most people will instantly figure out why it's there. I'd imagine that's the more common complaint people would have, but I'll go a step further and say that the virtual desktop was kinda underutilized. For a game you play within another computer, the actual computer feels kinda empty. I would've liked if you could explore the filesystem a bit more beyond just the Documents folder, and maybe even find some easter eggs or extremely simple minigames like on older Windows versions. That's not to say it's bad; the interface is clean and easy to use with cool customization and some clever visual effects, and I especially appreciate the inclusion of a music player. I just wish it felt more like an actual computer, and not just a way to band-aid over legacy content. For those reasons I'd personally say the original Steam release is the one to go for if you've never played OneShot before and have a compatible device, it just leaves a bigger impression. But for people looking to replay it, this is easily the definitive version thanks to the analog movement, sharpened fullscreen mode, and adorable unlockables; for me personally this will probably be the only version I play from now on. And regardless of how I feel about this release, it gives console and Steam Deck owners alike a way to experience OneShot, and that's purely a good thing.

While I'm sure World Machine Edition is great, if possible I would strongly recommend playing the original 2016 release over this for a more authentic experience. This is not a "definitive edition", this is a port of the Nintendo Switch release intended for use on a Steam Deck. (That being said, if you're enough of a OneShot fan you may as well play this one after :p)
