This is one of the best games I’ve ever played and I own it on multiple platforms. Take two is despicable for what it’s done in shutting down roll7 so it can focus on making more microtransctions for GTAV. Everyone should buy this game (when it’s listed again). Take twoa leadership is completely lost and revenue driven. Up yours take two.

Hopefully this banger of a game is relisted some day (unavailable on Steam as of 1/31/2025). I completed most of it on Xbox a couple of years back, devastated to see it go (Roll7 shutdown and the publishing label was sold off by 2K). If you want a fun game, look no further. Imagine a skateboarding game where you're not just trying to land tricks, but you're flowing through vibrant, dreamlike levels, chaining combos, and exploring a world that's as fun to look at as it is to skate through. That's OlliOlli World. It's the third game in the OlliOlli series, but it's a fresh start. Instead of pixel art, it's got this hand-drawn, almost cartoonish style that's super charming. You're in Radlandia, a place filled with quirky characters, giant donuts, and skate gods. The gameplay is all about momentum and rhythm (easy to learn, but hard to master). You're constantly moving forward, and you need to time your tricks perfectly to keep your combo going. There are grinds, wall rides, and all sorts of obstacles to overcome. But it's not just about getting the highest score, it's about finding the smoothest line and feeling that flow. The game is easy to run on most hardware and plays perfectly on the Steam Deck. The amount of love poured into OlliOlli World is undeniable. From the quirky dialogue to the intricate details that you may miss on a first run. I am hopeful to see it return, but if not please find a cheap key while you can and play it.

An absolute gem. OlliOlli World takes the buttery-smooth trick-chaining gameplay of the THPS series, smashes it with side-scrolling precision platformers, and adds a heaping dollop of personality to the whole affair. The gameplay is absolutely scrumptious - the flowstate when you're nailing perfect grinds and wall-riding from half-pipe to half-pipe is utterly sublime, backed up by A/V effects juiced to perfection. Seriously, your brain will be DRENCHED in dopamine every time you hear the "dink" sound that your board makes when you land on a grind rail. The game's levels are crafted exceptionally well, and there's even a procedurally-generated infinite mode to guarantee you'll never get sick of running the same routes over and over again. On top of the gameplay, the titular world of Olli Olli World is vibrant and inventive. Tongue-in-cheek skater culture is laid over fantastical landscapes, ranging from sunny beaches to Roswell-style alien-infested canyons, which makes the game as fun to look at as it is to play. While there's no substantial story per se, your avatar is accompanied by a crew of goofy characters, the lot of which adds a sheen of adventure to the game as your merry band of misfits trots the proverbial globe with you. Their dialogue, while simple, adds a lot of personality without overstaying its welcome, enriching the personality of the game immensely. My complaints about the game are minor. Really, the strangest thing to me is that tutorials for genre basics, like manuals and advanced tricks, are formally introduced far past the point you've likely figured them out for yourself. Certainly not game-breaking, just a bit odd! I also want to touch on difficulty, as that's something I've seen some other reviews mention. And I have to say, personally, I think the difficulty is... totally fine! The game definitely has its challenging moments, but, all in all, the difficulty feels fair and steady. I've seen some folks mention Sketchside, the game's fourth zone, specifically as a difficulty spike, but I don't think that asserting "Sketchside gets too hard" conveys the context of the game very well. To clarify, each level in Olli Olli World has three "local heroes" whose scores you can beat - essentially just bronze, silver, and gold scores hardcoded in by the devs. To achieve the gold score for levels in the first three zones, you may have to push yourself, but they're generally quite attainable after a handful of practice runs through any given level. Sketchside does, in fact, have a significant comparative increase in the magnitude of the scores required to beat these local heroes - I went from clearing gold scores with relative ease (in some cases, my first run of a zone) to struggling to get too far past the bronze number. However, beating these scores is in NO WAY required to advance the game. Clearing the scores rewards cosmetic items only, and each zone has a SINGLE bonus level locked behind beating a number of local heroes. These hero scores do NOT hamper the progress of each zone, and every level in the game features plenty of checkpoints to help you clear them. It's entirely possible to ignore the scoring system in totality and just focus on getting to the end of the level - the hero scores are just a way to entice you to push your mastery. So yes, while Sketchside does see a spike of sorts, it's not genuine difficulty per se; it's only a spike for challenge-related, non-progression mastery. All this is to say... if worry over difficulty was holding you back from getting this game, fret not! All in all, I absolutely adore Olli Olli World and would recommend it to anyone who's interested in this type of high-input gameplay. The core design is engaging enough for platform and adventure fans to enjoy, and, of course, those interested in score-chasing or mechanical mastery will find an absolute treasure trove to dig into here. The game goes on sale pretty frequently, but, honestly, the quality of the game is such that I think it's worth it even at the full $20 USD retail price. As a fan of platformers, Olli Olli World is fast-becoming my favorite skating game for how tastefully it incorporates platforming elements into the "skate game" formula. If you're at all intrigued by this game, do yourself a favor and pick it up!

I've played all the Olli Olli games. This one is by far my favorite! None of the others have the super chill aesthetic, the most complex and rewarding levels, the deepest replay value, and the BEST soundtrack.
