Pretty decent roguelike! ✅ Good combat ✅ Interesting level design ✅ Fun boss fights ✅ Amusing side characters ❌ The only thing that I think it's BAD, it's unlocking new weapons. Takes a really really long time to do that and it kinda sucks, tbh. Besides that, I really enjoyed the game. Not super challenging, pretty unique final boss... 8/10 ⭐

If you like Dead Cells, buy this game immediately. It's got a lot of similarities but it's also it's own unique game. Seriously fun, and I think the esthetic is awesome

Faster, At The Same Time Slower Than Dead Cells. I remembered I stumbled upon this game by accident because of a small news feed dedicated a section just for it. I liked the artstyle and there was a demo out at that time. Without hesitation I jumped right in, and fast forward to its version 1.0, I have sunken forty more hours into this wonderful roguelite game(fifty more including the demo play time). Oblivion Override is a fast-paced, side-scrolling action roguelite, similar to Rogue Legacy and Dead Cells. This review will have some comparison with the latter, not only because I have way more experience in Dead Cells but also these two games have some interesting difference worth pointing out. Things I Like About Oblivion Override: 1. Combat → Agile Protagonist : Instead of earning crucial abilities throughout the level like Dead Cells, Oblivion Override just gives them all to you. Things like Double Jump, Dashing In Eight Direction, Air Dash, Stomp, and Wall Climb are already at your disposal, easily making the first impression really strong. You can zoom through the level with ease, you can out-manuever any opponents with such mobility, and you can become even more agile with the right evolution upgrades. It's really rare that a roguelite game would give players such a competent protagonist and indulging them with this level of power fantasy. → Weapons And Mechas : While Dead Cells offers a plethora weapons and skills for players to unlock, Oblivion Override only has a handful of them. That does not mean the latter will lack variety in build variety. Quite the contrary, the dev can focus on making every weapon feels unique. Each one has its own attack pattern and specialised affixes identical to Dead Cells' legendary weapons, except that in this game there are multiple quite interesting affixes you can re-roll. In addition to weapons, players will also find Mecha blueprints throughout the level. Each Mecha contains one passive, one skill, and one ultimate, offering different play styles ranging from attack-chaining ronin, burst damage powerhouse, and single-target specialist. → Upgrades On The Go : This is my favorite part of this game. Defeating enemies grants you nanite. You can use nanite to purchase mutations that give you interesting buff. These buff are not as simple as just giving you more damage. Instead, you can have the chance to inflict elemental status effects when you attack; you can also generate shield whenever you run; you can also have two drone buddies to do some crowd-control for you, or even triggers more special effects on kill. Each mutation also contributes to one of the eleven different specialties, which creates even more variety. And the important part is, you can tinker all of these ON THE GO! 2. Other Compliments →Interesting boss fights, fair and challenging. →Lots of upgrades to help you reach your inevitable success before the run. →You can recycle some materials to create some cores and resources to give you the jump start. Things I Dislike About Oblivion Override: 1. Rather Predictable Level Generation This is something you will notice after three of more consecutive runs. The level generation doesn't seem to randomized much. You can easily break it down to four or five arenas connected with corridors of different length. I know Dead Cells also has this problem but the levels in that game are way larger and contain more paths than any of those in Oblivion Override. It also does not help that the latter has a linear level progression and no branching biomes to keep the run fresh. What makes me even more confused is that there doesn't seem to have any parkour platforming challenges, considering how mobile our protagonist is. There are some corridors that have some spikes or other environmental hazards, but those feel more in line with minor obstacles rather than actual challenges. 2. Other Complaints →Alerts pass level 4 are just not fun. →Wish the second and third level also have three bosses you can choose to fight. →Due to combo-focusing combat, TTK can be too long in this game. →Why would the devs do Vik dirty like this when Lee does the exact same thing but remain intact?

This game's art style is what got me interested initially, and the combat turned out really well to keep that interest going (stringing together combos and synergies feels fantastic!). Dead cells is a fair comparison but differs in many ways to stand on its own. Some differences: abilities are tied to weapon and robot whereas Dead cells is going to be items spread out randomly over the course of run. Upgrades (evolutions in this game) come from killing enemies mainly while in DC, get your power up thru scrolls. The evolution system is nice because that's where you get your synergies and experimentation from, whereas DC you get your synergies through affixes on gear that's RNG. If those differences don't seem that big of a deal, then this game is perfect for you. I thought the base alert level (boss cells in this game) was way too easy, but the game becomes a lot more fun with the variation that comes from higher alert levels. EDIT: Just adding that this game runs flawlessly on steam deck

Started saying "just one more run" ~60 hours ago. Great pacing to the action, great style to the characters/enemies, fun boss battles and creative weapons.
