Bought this game on a whim. Didn't like it at first. Controls seemed just awful for a twin stick shooter. Then I started paying more attention to the way the ship moved and fired and thought maybe the controls were like that for a reason. I decided to play slow and just fly around and get the feel of the game. It's hard to explain in text, but once you get the feel of the game it becomes really fun. It has a sort of chill and groovy vibe mixed with some intense colorful bullet game play. If you feel the controls are awful, play a bit just focusing on flying around in a circle while firing at enemies towards the center. One or two games and you will get it. And maybe swap the default left / right mouse buttons. Wasn't expecting much when I bought this game but it turned out to be quite good.

Great game, I'm not particularly good at these sort of "Aero Fighters" -esque games, and I was able to beat the game (with no additional modifiers, there are a LOT of extra modifiers you can add for more unlock xp and challenge). So, if you're also terrible at these "you're a plane, get power ups and get bigger and more guns" type of games, this might be a good one for you to actually enjoy instead of just being sad that you're not better at them.

Nova Drift takes the classic space-shooter formula, reminiscent of Asteroids, and injects it with a finely-tuned rogue-like structure. The result is an unexpectedly addictive blend of action and strategic depth, where you ascend from a lone spaceship to a cosmic force of evolutionary technology. The core game-play loop is straightforward: shoot, dodge, and adapt. The difficulty progresses gradually but can feel slow at times. The early game might seem a little tedious, but once upgrades become available, the beauty of the game's design becomes clear. There's a vast array of unique builds to explore. When upgrades synergise effectively, the feeling of immense power is incredibly satisfying. The game cleverly weaves tactical considerations into its upgrade system, making the search for the optimal build a meditative puzzle. Survive long enough and you'll transform into an unstoppable force, wielding advanced technology and leaving a trail of kaleidoscopic destruction. Experimentation is rewarded, but overconfidence is punished. Moments of carelessness can derail even the most well-thought-out plan, making mental focus crucial as you battle through increasingly challenging waves. A single poorly chosen upgrade can quickly send your carefully crafted build into an inescapable bullet hell. At its heart, Nova Drift embodies the concept of "simple to learn, difficult to master." Progress feels genuinely earned, and even in defeat, you'll find yourself wanting just one more go. If you enjoy the thrill of creating ridiculously powerful builds and narrowly escaping self-made disasters, Nova Drift's chaotic laboratory will undoubtedly pull you in.

Super fun rogue like, but the real depth is in the how ALL of the upgrades interact and stack with each other. 50 hours in and I still feel like I haven't seen all the possible builds yet, let alone master how to play them all. Also note that yes, the controls take a little bit to get used to (unless you've played Asteroids, in which case it's identical). Give it a little to master because once you do it's EXTREMELY satisfying. Will definitely continue to play for many years to come, even if no updates are forthcoming (but I hope there are!)

Nova Drift is a asteroids style score game of epic proportions. Pilot your bio-mechanical ship through scaling waves of enemies to earn EXP (score). Choose from branching upgrade trees to customize your ship shields, weapon, drones and mobility features. With a huge amount of ships and upgrades to choose from the variety of game play experiences is amazing. I'm writing this just a few weeks before 1.0 releases, having been a player for 3.5 years now I can say this game is easily the best in class. No other score based shooter game comes close to the level of depth, variety and enjoyment it provides. Make no mistake, this game is difficult to get good at. The control scheme takes practice, but is extremely rewarding to master. Unlike a twin-stick shooter you control your thrust and momentum with have the ability to screen wrap top to bottom, and left to right. In the time I have played the game the developer has continued to improve every aspect of the game, it is unbelievable how robust and complete this game is after a almost 10 year development cycle. Do yourself a favor and pick this game up immediately.
