Yer fond of me lobster, ain't ye? No One Lives Under The Lighthouse is a mystery/horror narrative driven walking sim with early PS1 retro graphics. As far as gameplay goes, you have to fulfill the duties of a lighthouse keeper: keep the place clean and orderly and see to the lamp burning from evening until dawn. The lighthouse is situated on a small rocky island, which is also uninhabited(?). https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3379491140 It's a slow burn horror story that requires attention and patience to some extent. As the secrets of the lighthouse gradually reveal themselves to its keeper, the game succeeds in making the player feel uncertain of what's really happening most of the time. Confusing as it may be, it still manages to avoid indulging itself into a constantly dreamlike atmosphere, by dropping subtle hints as to the true state of things or downright yanking the player back to reality. I hope this makes some sense, the game utilizes surrealism at full throttle to present its narrative. However, most of the time it still manages to convey an obsure yet effective message about what's happening in the story's key points. The sound in the game is as dreary as its pixelated, oversaturated, bleak landscape. It greatly enhances the experience: the ominous synth chords instill melancholia and uneasiness simultaneously, while the howling wind, squawking seagulls and the incessant pounding of rocks by waves make one to really immerse into the role of a lonely lighthouse keeper stranded on a tiny speck of land, encroaching upon Poseidon's wet realm (Hark Triton, HAAARK!) . There are also sound effects that are intended to startle/scare the player: make sure to play the game with headphones or at least with the volume cranked up. There are some jumpscare moments that make the player go "Holy Moly" but they are certainly not of the cheap kind. Instead, they are either placed in pivotal points as a crescendo to the gradual build up of dread or they are meticulously woven into the broader meaning of the plot. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3381066803 Storm ended, sea calm. God is over all. I highly recommend experiencing the game without knowing many details about the story. I was pleasantly surprised by its depth and complexity! It's a great game to go in blind, give it a try. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3380222747

I absolutely loved the atmosphere of this game. It’s hard to put into words, but the visuals feel like a throwback to a forgotten era of gaming—grainy textures that evoke nostalgia, even though I’ve never played anything quite like this before. The combination of graphic style with music adds a distinct charm and creates an immersive experience that feels truly one of a kind. It’s a game that will definitely stay in my memory. One of my favorite moments was the calm before the storm—when things seemed almost ordinary, and I was just tending to the lighthouse with a slight sense of unease creeping in. That subtle tension was far scarier than what followed, as the monster encounter felt less frightening. The game reminded me of Kafka’s “Metamorphosis” with its sense of alienation and transformation—where reality slowly unravels, leaving more questions than answers and lingering in memory. This game left an impression on me with its atmosphere, mystery, and pacing, making me curious to explore other endings.

This is a very satisfying horror game. The atmosphere and sound direction alone are enough to recommend it, and the story is intriguing enough to warrant multiple playthroughs to learn all the intricacies of it. I got stuck on the geometry a bunch of times while playing, but other than that didn't encounter any glitches that took me out of the experience. Definitely a worthwhile game for horror gamers.

First play through, the game felt slow, lacking direction for the player and creatively disjointed. After beating the game and rewatching my play through, I realized that I was absolutely wrong. This game is purposefully slow as it builds out a unqiue world full of lore and meaning. It is almost impossible to get the value of the story on one play. The story is built upon repeatability and a few lessons learned. I won't lie the game is a slow burn, but if you immerse yourself in the scope of the world and treat it like a independent film, it gains massive appeal. Think on what you are seeing and doing and you'll find a very worthwhile experience. If you're still unsure, feel free to check out my playthrough below!
