I love the No More Heroes franchise, but I'll start off by saying that this is a flawed port. It's not bad, but there are many present issues. The game can freeze, crash, and some of the achievements are broken. It's unfortunate, because issues aside, this game is still pretty darn good. The story follows the events of the first game, with Travis Touchdown returning to Santa Destroy. Travis will encounter some old faces, and his protégé, Shinobu, is even playable for a bit. No More Heroes 2 improves on some of the mechanics of the first game, but also does quite a few things worse. The combat is still pretty good, there's no longer ranking fees for continuing through the story, the graphics look better than the first game, the story is still quite outlandish, and fast travel makes for a delightful option. Improvements aside - the side missions aren't quite as fun as they could be, I would have liked to have the option to free roam around Santa Destroy, the final boss is pretty lame, and the other bosses are well-designed, but seem much simpler to fight. The game is still worth a solid playthrough. It's short, but it still is quite an enjoyable experience. I'll definitely return to 100% the game if they fix the achievements. Some final thoughts: - You can now interact with your cat, Jeane, to try and get her into shape. - Travis still doesn't wipe after using the toilet. - You can now dual wield beam katanas. Awesome.

what the fuck, it's got cat physics, it's freaking me out A damn good sequel. Travis definitely lost a bit of his dorky charm, but I guess it comes with being no.1 assassin for two games in a row. And I know I'm in a minority, but I really liked the updated fighting system and the absence of open-world. Gym and side-jobs minigames sucks though.

Fine sequel with smooth combat system, new playable characters and worst side job/training gimmicks I've ever played.

"no more heroes 2 is the worst in the series" really? this one is so much of an improvement compared to the first. you dont have the godawful santa destroy open world segment anymore (thank god), you dont have to drive back and forth just to grind out the same revenge mission in hopes of acquiring enough cash to progress to the next level. the combat isnt monotone any longer and theres more variety and freedom fit to ones playstyle. the bosses actually fight like bosses compared to the joke, parody, meta-narrative of the first. . . the combat has been elevated on such a high level, dark stepping has been completely altered to actually make it more skill-based move to pull off. you can carry multiple sabers with you this time around and even switch between them during combat. you can parry, juggle, wallsplat, stagger and so on, it definitely plays more like a traditional beat em up and can be called an actual "action" game than the first installment which is nothing more than an glorified console experiment. oh, i also really like the neat detail of travis having his sabers dangle from his belt as you acquire them, its a nice touch. the boss fights in this are so much fun, and i love the no BS approach of just putting you straight to the fight without having some foreplay prior. they've put so much effort into the bosses this time around that they even made an entire boss rush mode to playthrough, it could also work as a "training mode" if you are ever planning a challenge run on bitter difficulty, which as the name suggests, will definitely leave a bitter taste. its going to test your patience for sure. on a side note, should i really not be surprised that suda51 wasnt head director for this? his cult of personality is definitely more toxic than that of kojimas! im pretty sure these auteurs dont want to come off that way or intend the slightest hint of narcissism, its always emitted by the fanbase instead. i think praising suda51 as some kind of experimental genius in interactive media is laughable. what is experimental exactly? something thats slightly different than your usual thing? id love to see these bugmen try to sit through a stan brakhage film heh. honestly though, suda51 definitely delivers when hes more laidback. killer7 is an all-time favorite game of mine and now no more heroes 2 coming in close second. both of which were supervised by others! i even think this game does a way better job in its presentation than the first. it definitely left an impact for sure. and the "paris, texas" intersections are very much appreciated :)
