This is fucking great. I'm not a big fan of the first Ninja Gaiden because the difficulty is a bit too stomp on your balls hard for me but NG2 has a good balance of making you feel challenged and like a badass super ninja. The combat is cool and there are hot babes which definitely wouldn't fly if the game came out now. Some of the boss fights are pretty shit though, they can stun lock you and it doesn't feel good to fight them, unless i just suck which might be the case. Luckily you can tank your way through them and get back to wrecking regular mobs. Sadly this is the Sigma version of the game which has a lot less blood and dismemberment than the Xbox 360 version but there is a mod to bring back the gore which is easy to install. Chopping off limbs and painting rooms with blood makes the combat 100% more satisfying. Ninja Gaiden 2 is probably my favorite 3d action game ever. The combat system is the closest you'll get to a single player fighting game, where you have to aggressively balance offense and defense while staying mobile to avoid grapples, traps, and mixups during duels and brawls. It's absurdly fun and exciting to play. Unfortunately this is the Sigma version of the game, which in some ways is best described as "neutered": enemy encounters are cut down with less enemies at once, but higher spongy hp, damaging the fast paced high lethality action that made NG2 so unique and brutal feeling. There are lots of other odd changes for the worse too, from breaking the games item and upgrade economy to bizarre aesthetic decisions (stage 2's burning village being changed from night to day, what??? to say nothing of the hasty removal of most of the gore) Still though, the core combat is still the best in any 3d action game and if you can't play the xbox 360 original, this is still an incredibly fun game that I wholeheartedly recommend. Do consider trying to track down the 360 game on ebay or amazon or something though.

If possible, I would only give it less of a high rating as the original ninja gaiden on Xbox, but it's actually it's own level of solid being that it was on the Xbox 360. The Sigma version oddly was a better direction, but I could see how the comments for this game are justified. I still give it high regards.

Definitely not as batsh!t as the 360 original, but if that isn't available, this'll do (just be sure to download the mod that re-enables the gore, purple mist is dumb).

Very inferior to the original version of Ninja Gaiden II on the Xbox, but if you have not play the original Ninja Gaiden II then it is still a fun time. If, however, you have an Xbox, then definitely get that version instead. The Sigma 2 version greatly reduces the enemy count, entirely gets rid of the blood and makes dismemberment basically non-existent. It also, like Sigma 1, adds annoying side stories involving other characters which really break the flow of the game. Thankfully these chapters are better than the awful Rachel chapters in Sigma 1, but they are definitely a downer in Sigma 2 everytime one of them pops up. Still, it's a fun game if you have no way of accessing the original version of Ninja Gaiden II.
