Completion time: approx 12 hours to 'clear' if sticking to main story, 30-35 hours to 100%. Difficulty: very easy for an action game, easy for a JRPG, some optional/post-game content ramps up challenge immensely. There are no select-able difficulty options. By 100% achievement standards it's a rather easy game, slightly grind happy at the end. Port Issues: occasional major slowdown for no discernible reason late game, seems to be CPU related. Various controllers are not officially supported so require rebinds/perhaps may not work properly, after rebinding my Dualsense worked fine. Strengths: + Music, it is a Gust game after all but even by their standards it's well above par, probably the best music I've heard in an action game. Even better is the music peaks furthermore during the last 2 main story stages. Perhaps Ar Tonelico Qoga might rival it but otherwise this is Gust music at its best. + Combat whilst simple has good control and functions well, later on you unlock new weapon and transformation types that prevent it getting too stale. + Boss battle design is above average for an action game, very impressive for a seemingly first attempt at one. They keep things fresh so a couple have multiple phases and boss gimmicks such as traps in arenas or fake-outs are rarely repeated. + Servan system is kind of like real-time Pokemon, varies combat a lot and surprisingly you can have a decent degree of control over it. It has issues perhaps with a small pool of available Servans and even then it resorts to pallet swaps as 'new' Servans. + Tracking your progress on sub-scenarios/quests/Servans/skills etc is very clear and it's hard to outright miss anything by accident. + Quite a lot of optional and post game content including a challenge arena and a post-game dungeon/bosses. + The few side characters in the story are all pretty likable/amusing and dialogue with Servans in the hotel also tends to be charming, in an odd way I'd say the dialogue from everyone other than the 2 leading ladies have the most charm. + +1 more for the music Neutrals: * Story is there and is 'fine', didn't get into nearly as much as other Gust games but then again this game has a much higher gameplay-to-story ratio than their other games. * It's a Gust game, so: somewhat short, simple, easy and lesbians - later of which dialed up to 11 this time. Weaknesses: - Enemy and Servan variety is light, arguably so is the number of characters in the story too, whole game has a budget feel even by older Gust standards. - Game was built for PSVita through PS4 originally and they clearly built around the lowest common denominator, environment visuals are not an eye -sore but they are super forgettable and homogeneous at times. Polygon count and texture resolution are notably low, alongside some very basic animations. - Non-scenario-quest system is typical MMO(?)-filler-tier garbage, kill-X-number-of-Y or go-to-Z-location, worse is they repeat. - Camera, it's the worst in action game I can think of, you can only reset it behind you by pressing the block button but cannot turn it otherwise. It also sits very low and large Servans love to stand right in front of your view point. Given how easy/casual the game is it's rarely annoying outright but very notable. = Being a Koei Tecmo port expect an external configuration menu, basic controller and graphics options and odd technical issues (occasional slowdown) - later of which has made me think the game might have crashed a couple of times but it never did, perhaps save often just encase. To sum up it's way better than I thought going in, was under the impression this was a 6/10 given a bit of a pass because of the music but it's more of a 7.5/10 or so. It may be genuinely worth experiencing for the music alone and if not it's a very low friction game so hard to get aggravated by it.

This definitely deserves its (currently) mixed rating. Everything about it, from the story, to the graphics, to the environments, to the art, to the voice acting, to the combat is a little rough in places, but to me manages to eke out some interest. Getting the hang of the game actually isn't difficult, and there is an enjoyable game here if you are able to look past some of the somewhat-meh-factor things. Spend enough time and the combat becomes enjoyable, collecting minions aka "servans" is rewarding as they get added to your deck and as you skill up to make the game easier. The voice acting is a bit stilted and the story can be rushed at times, but it's not awful to be honest. In the end though I will recommend it, I don't think it's bad, there is enjoyment to be had. Just go in with lowered expectations and you'll be good. I'd suggest getting this on sale, and when you're itching for a JRPG. Notes: Set the game's maximum fps to 60. Anything over and you'll be unable to pick up items without weird workarounds. I was able to set it in Nvidia control panel. In settings in the launcher, reset the buttons to match the XBOX controller. It's mismatched by default. I recommend grinding to level 9 or 10 before the final boss. I made a mistake and got stuck on level 8 and wasn't able to perform the level up ceremony because I had crossed a point of no return. I did manage to beat the boss with a lot of persistence and leveled up 'servans'. The game plays at 1440p without taxing the system much, but to set to 1440p there is a registry entry you have to set. Look it up on pcgamingwiki.

This game is not for everyone, as there may be elements that could bother those who are more serious about this genre of game. ✦The game's story is quite interesting, especially considering the side quests and events that occur at certain points on the map. Through them, it's possible to get to know the characters and the game world better. Ignoring such events can make things more superficial than usual. ✦The gameplay is one of the strongest factors of this game in my humble opinion. It is quite enjoyable and varied, with numerous servants, abilities, transformations, and different items that can completely change the gameplay. Considering that there are items focused on the use of servants and items with unique passives, it adds an extra layer of depth. ✦The soundtrack is wonderful and truly conveys emotions during crucial moments, being one of the aspects that greatly helped me stay immersed in the game's universe. Considering that I bought the game at a 50% discount, it was very much worth it.

Good game, terrible port. It really deserves the "mixed" rating. I'm "recommending" but with caveats. You will have to deal with some hassle setting the game up, especially your controller. There's guides in the community hub that might help. If you like the Dynasty Warriors games, just imagine something like that, repurposed for an action RPG. It's a pretty good story. There's a small number of characters, but that keeps the story pretty tight. There's not much unnecessary narrative. Also, the missions are typically concise and straight-forward, but I got lost a couple times. Overall, the game seemed pretty easy. I didn't do any extra grinding and still levelled up to 8 easily. The max level is 10. I beat the end boss at level 8 on my first attempt without much problem. There's a couple enemy types that are annoying, but you don't see much of them until the end. Overall, I liked it. There doesn't feel like there's much to pad out the play time. Except for getting lost a few times and dealing with some bogus enemies, I always fealt like I was moving forward at a decent pace. It took me about 18 hours.

Thumbs up with a few caveats. The button controls are horrendous. The game is best played with a controller, and you will need to map these buttons out yourself. No in-game prompts either. So remember what you set. Another user has a well mapped button scheme in another review that worked really well. The game is a hack n slash C-tier RPG. Slight jank here and there. The story wasn't half bad, and the upgrade system was pretty cool. The game isn't too difficult until you get to the bosses. The difficulty spike is crazy. Slight grinding early and mid game, but the end game is required to grind. Getting to level 10 on all servans and yourself is sufficient enough. The final boss is borderline unfair at time, but doable. Can't skip cut scenes either, which is a draw back. The game was fun, but probably not one I'd play through repeated times for different endings.
