One big warning: You need to realize this an "upgrade" from an old 2010 JRPG game not really a remake. It's essentially a remaster with some elements revamped such as textures, combat, voice acting & music. The old elements that a lot of modern gamers may not find enjoyable such as grindy, boring fetch quests, manual saving, small areas to explore and loading screens to get to different areas etc. exist. If this is a deal breaker for you, then you will probably not enjoy this game. (Side note, because of this, I think the $59.99 price point is way too high.) - If you played the original Nier from 2010 on PS3, then I 100% recommend this, to experience the much needed revamped combat and playing from the brother perspective rather than the father (Daddy Nier, you are still loved and missed) especially with the new ending E and the shipwreck content from the Ocean town; Seafront. - if you are coming from playing Automata and what to know the story before and all the eastereggs and are aware that it's essentially not much like Automata, then I recommend this. -However, you will not get the satisfying gameplay of Automata. The storywriting isn't as good as Automata, but it's still good. It brings about questions of humanity and morality. -It's a fairly short game being around 10 or less hours on easy mode for just the first playthrough and maybe 4-6 hours for each other playthrough. Also, not all of the multiple playthroughs require you to start from the beginning btw. Also if you're going for achievments, they are not really difficult, but really grindy. At this time, only 41% of steam players that own this game have reached ending A, and it's understandable why this won't fit everyone's tastes. It's a unique game and I personally love it, but I am also coming from a nostalgic viewpoint, having played the original and I can see where other players might not click with this one.

Yoko Taro is one of those creative minds that come around once in a lifetime. Unfortunately, both the NieR series and the Drakengard series have ruined other games for me. I hold all other games, especially their stories, to the standard that Yoko Taro has set. NieR is a masterpiece in story telling. Can the game play be a bit clunky? Yes. Can the quests be a bit tedious? Yes. But, Yoko Taro's storytelling and world-building are like crack. Here is hoping for a Drakengard 3 Remaster announcement in 2025 (15th year anniversary for NieR)

While Automata certainly gets more attention, I feel more of a connection with Nier Replicant. Okay gameplay differences first, cause you should know in some ways it's a step back and in others it's a totally different game. The weapon system is basic without the Lv4 abilities of Automata weapons meaning it's a standard RPG system of "biggest number wins", but on the other hand the magic system is WAY more useful than the Pods are, especially since they run off a recharging mana system instead of cooldowns. Collecting Words to alter properties of weapons and magic can be a pain, but prioritize Words that grant status effects on hit and Words that increase the effectiveness of status effect Words and you're golden. Also, you can dodge AND block, perfect block means you can counter, and these as well as spells can be assigned to the triggers and shoulder buttons however you like. None of that really matters though. Possibly weird selling point, this is the single most HUMAN game I've ever played. What do I even mean by that? Well, I could honestly go on for hours about it. The companion characters are exceptionally well written. Emil is an adorable kid, Weiss is a freaking smartass, and Kainé hilariously has the most foul mouth I've ever heard in a video game. Also, every single line of dialog is voice acted (shoutout to Liam O' Brian, love that guy's work), which is unusual for an RPG. Automata didn't even do that, and it really helps make the world feel more alive and real. I like stories in video games that can get emotional, but while Automata's emotional moments are undercut by its focus on existentialism, Replicant wants you to get lost in the moment. It's very effective at that too. After experiencing so much media in my life it takes a good deal to get me emotional. Despite that, this game made me shed tears multiple times, at one point back to back in a single day. I can't really give a stronger recommendation than that.

I recommend this game for anyone who likes great dark/apocaliptic stories. I've played this game after completing Automata. In my experience the gameplay is a bit worse than that (not terrible but not perfect), but the story is even crazier and the characters personalities/stories are way better. Also, fishing is less infuriating which is a big plus. AND it has Emil, which is reason enough to play it.

7.8/10 Got all achievement. Great controls & experience on steam deck but the gpu for some reason stuck at 1040Mhz whenever docked or not, i tried other game it got no problem, can manually raise it to 1200Mhz or 1600Mhz 1080p docked you will get 60fps and 50 fps when docked without frame pacing issue, use proton 7.0-6 for CPU 10° and GPU 15° lower also add 1 more hour playtime with only 2-3 fps lower than using current proton. Gonna play automata someday. [*] Got some platformer view & bullet hell section often, i think that is pretty interesting. [*] Side quests are mostly chore, some are really good some just there [*] Love it when they break 4th wall sometimes and said what player think like why the reason MCs can not swim like most RPG [*] Action gameplay is barebones & serviceable, the item grind is unreal! needed it if you want to get all ending. it gets boring doing same thing, i encourage cheat because how much time wasted here. [*] The OST really good and suit the somber & mellow atmosphere of the game [*] The english dub is amazing at least [*] The world feel too small but cohesive, story is insanely good but the item grind still not worth it. [*] Game director yoko taro strange decision that add black bar on cutscene without option turning it off really ruin immersion, i know the original got it but giving option for it gonna be better, sadly there's no mod for it but there's hex code edit only for ultrawide. Great story but so many questionable design choices like locking ending behind item grind and black bar leaves bad impression to me. This game got almost got no regional pricing so get on sale.
