I must say, so far I enjoy this game more than the Classic Pokemon games it's based on. It's not perfect, but the tweaks made to the battle system keep the pace nice and snappy. And this game manages to have a forced EXP Share WITHOUT outright ruining the difficulty. I also really love how the game tells you just how "rare" each Nexomon is. You can tell right at a glance which ones you REALLY wanna catch and commit to training. And the bestiary telling you their base stats really helps, I have no idea why Pokemon's Pokedex doesn't do that. Also there's no Natures, no EVs, and no IVs. All that stupid crap from Pokemon that NOBODY cares about? Yeah, it's not here! You can just play this game normally like a human being!

I’ve been following this game series since the release of Micromon on the App Store (2014), then Nexomon (2017), and eventually had to delete both games due to storage limitations, intending to forget about them entirely. i stumble upon BOTH a sequel and OG nexomon on steam during a sale?? uh heck yea What i can remember from the mobile releases of Micromon and Nexomon: they had too many goddamn microtransactions. anything tied to quality of life improvements, faster progression or customization had a price tag slapped right next to it. the overuse of premium currency for PAID games is what rlly drove away most ppl from Micromon and Nexomon on mobile. there was literally nothing else wrong with the game, the only complaints i really heard people have about the games were the marketing practices that made the game unbearably slow if you didnt invest into them. small Youtubers and content creators that did review micromon/early nexomon echoed the same complaints and since the feedback wasnt really being heard a lot of the mobile playerbase just fizzled out. 2019 rolls around and early access for Nexomon on steam is announced and lemme tell you.. when we said take out microtransactions and focus on the amazing stuff you guys already have, THEY LISTENED!! Upon revisiting Nexomon, I found it to be everything I remembered, and so much more Many games attempt to replicate the monster-tamer formula but often fall short, usually by trying too hard to outdo Pokémon. Nexomon, however, understands this challenge and cleverly pokes fun at itself for embracing these familiar tropes. This self-awareness is, in my opinion, one of the key reasons Nexomon succeeds—it doesn’t take itself too seriously and is perfectly content with being what it is. By drawing from traditional formulas while introducing its own fresh concepts, Nexomon creates something unique and engaging. From the soundtrack to the artwork, character and monster designs, unique battle system that doesnt completely rip pokemon off, and the overall story, the series distinguishes itself from its competitors. It employs a more "outside-the-box" approach to a formula that many consider overdone. the only thing i will nitpick about is the flow of battle in the first game (not sure if they fixed it in extinction gonna play soon). it can become a loopy process of kill->revenge kill->rinse-repeat but i think its easy to avoid if you use status moves to ur advantage as well and the game makes it very apparent that you need to learn this as well to defeat stronger fights you'll have later in the game As a result, Nexomon has become, to me at least, one of the best "Pokémon-clones" to date. If not the best, it is undeniably one of the original pioneers of the "poke-clone" genre. I definitely reccommend buying both Nexomon and Nexomon: Extinction together if you wanna enjoy the wonderful series as a whole. Micromon playthroughs can still be found on youtube but im unsure if there's a playable version out there.

Very fun Monster Collection game! Mechanically it is on the simpler side, probably owing to its past as a mobile game, but the mons are very cute and the story is interesting. It also largely does without the grind you can often find in similar games, and luckily without any hidden modifiers for the attributes of the monsters. I´m very much looking forward to playing the second and upcoming third part!

Now that I have completed both this game and nexomon extinction's stories I can say for certain that this game should be played second from a story standpoint. Yes Extinction's mechanics are more advanced, for better or worse, but story wise a lot of Extinctions's plot happens because of actions in this game, but they keep a lot of those things hidden from the player to the extent that as a story experience a new player benefits more from playing the sequel first and then experiencing what they were talking about in that game by coming back to this game. (From earlier in my playthrough, i just wanted to leave it) This is a good game, it just has one of the worst tropes in gaming when we fight the first champion. If you're going to give us a boss fight that we cannot win then make the fight unwinnable in the fight. Beating a boss then telling us we were defeated in the cutscene is such a horrible cop out and it kills the story's vibe so fast. Like I said this is a good game, so I can't bring myself to make a negative review unless it happens again, but I was so upset by this that I needed to make this point now.
