This game has a lot of promise. I enjoyed both Frostpunk and Surviving the Aftermath, and this is another post-apocalypse survival game in a similar vein, although with a significantly more complex economy and production chains. If you like tinkering, and having to constantly go back and optimize things, you will like this game. If you are more of a build-and-forget type person some of the mechanics may annoy you. I think the complicated production trees are a real positive. They start out simple enough, but as you progress in cycles and need to start building more complicated things (motors, engines, etc) you start needing to keep track of a lot of different stuff. and there is a lot of crossover between manufacturing chains. I also like how as your town grows instead of having to build 12 small workshops to keep up with demand, you have the ability to unlock bigger and more capable buildings that help you scale up while using fewer workers (at the cost of some additional dependencies). I also really like the need to interconnect certain production buildings with conveyors, it means where you locate buildings matters and adds another layer of strategy. As you might expect from an Early Access game, there are a number of holes and rough edges that could use some additional work. The game is not good at explaining how many of its mechanics work, you often have to beat your head against something for awhile to figure it out. I had to constantly reload previous saves because after I spend a ton of resources building a bigger and better production plant I found out it had a number of additional dependencies I didn't yet have the resources to meet. The conveyor system, while cool, is super buggy. Every time I load a new save I have to spend 3-4 minutes deleting and rebuilding conveyor chains that stopped working. A number of other commentators have complained about the dashboards for tracking resource usage and they are in fact terrible. It's difficult to see at a glance where you might be okay or falling behind, and its compounded by the fact that none of the shown values are real-time, the game only tracks what happened over the most recent complete day. It also fails to separate ongoing resource usage (i.e. production or citizen usage) vs one-time events (like constructing buildings). It makes it really hard to see though the noise, especially later on when the number of resources mushroom. In short it needs some work, but underneath a pretty solid game than in its current state is mostly fun but will occasionally lead to steam coming out of your ears. Here's hoping the devs keep working and keep making improvements.

It's like frostpunk but it's not frostpunk. music? amazing. voice acting? okay. graphic? good. lag? well i play lag free on 10+ year hardware. style? i'm hard. satisfaction from progressing? yes. looming dread of all resources being used up at some distant point in the game? OH FOR FUCKING SURE.

If you look at some of the comments some people may think this game has problems. Well, this 83 year old grumpy geezer has not encountered one. This game is great. good graphics good layouts(easy to understand) excellent drop-downs. Movement in buildings is surreal. The secret on how to enjoy the game is simple. slowly slowly catchee monkey. (AN old British saying. Calm down people). If you play thinking ahead you will enjoy this game. The challenge,s that are given can be won with calmness and thought. I personally have just one complaint< the brown background. People with fading eyesight have trouble with it. Everything begins to blend in. Overall I still have to give the game 9.5/10. Well done developers in giving us old buggers a game we can play.

Still early on, but this feels like a pretty good city builder. They seem to want this to be a Frost Punk-ish game, but it's definitely a LOOOOOT more forgiving. It's not a mindlessly easy game, but also not what I'd call hard. If you're looking at Frost Punk and think it looks too intimidating, I'd fully recommend playing this first as like the training wheels for harder city builders. That's not even meant to be an insult either. There are a lot of genuinely interesting mechanics to this game that ensure a consistent and logical progression each time you play. Research is based on both your actions, and the progress of the city. You can't jump into research if your city isn't getting its base supplies. You also don't have the ability to rush technology, so you have to survive the years. Sounds basic, but most survival games and city builders fail to account for these simple things. Also worth noting that this is how a game dev should do early access. There's clearly a lot they haven't implemented yet, but in my 3 hours of trying the game out, I never once felt like the game was incomplete. No bugs, no crashes, no half assed mechanics, and performance seems super solid. They even took the effort to make the UI easy to understand, and gave you all the information you could possibly need. The only problem these devs seem to have is they're unfortunately tied to the same publisher that released Gollum.

Right off the bat, New Cycle has some serious charm, nailing the fundamentals of city building. It is one of those games where you start planning a few buildings, and before you know it, hours have flown by. The pacing, while a bit slow at the start, actually adds depth to the gameplay, allowing you to really soak in the environment and strategize your city's growth. This gradual build-up is great for players who appreciate a game that unfolds thoughtfully. Visually, the game has a consistent and clean aesthetic. Each building maintains a uniform look that brings a cohesive feel to your city. The soundtrack is exceptional. It complements the gameplay beautifully, enhancing the overall experience. On the technical side, New Cycle is impressively stable. No bugs or glitches to report, which is a testament to the developers' attention to detail. This smooth performance really lets you immerse yourself in the game without any distractions. It's a game that city builder enthusiasts should definitely keep an eye on, and I strongly recommend diving in and experiencing it for yourself. Don’t just watch its development – be a part of it! The game is a journey worth embarking on, and I'm eager to see how it evolves with further development!
