This game is a pleasantly deep take on the city builder genre with strong hints of Anno, Frostpunk, Factorio, and even more Anno. At this stage in development it is a fully playable game with a complete A to Z gameplay pipeline and workflow but has a ton of room for growth. Overall its a reasonably challenging game with multiple routes you can take but struggles to provide more nuanced gameplay the longer you play. For example: - stockpiles can be anywhere because resource delivery times are more or less irrelevant, while your workers move throughout the city carrying goods they appear to just be representatives of the task and the actual resources are transferred instantly - There are no great rules about how things should be laid out in your city which is great for creative freedom but not so great for those looking for a more thorough element to gameplay. - The story is entirely down your actions and if you want to play for longer before you hit the endgame you can choose to just not click complete on projects and it will continue as long as you want. - The overworld scavenging system is very shallow and carries no element of risk despite what the in game tooltips seem to indicate. As soon as you get the ability to supply canned rations and have some spare workers (and you WILL have tons of spare workers late game) build wells and roads everywhere so you can get around the hardest resource to keep enough of for much of the game, water. In conclusion: This game has a lot of promise and I look forward to seeing where the developers take it in the future but for now I think my 1 complete playthrough is enough until more change happens.

This game has a lot of promise. I enjoyed both Frostpunk and Surviving the Aftermath, and this is another post-apocalypse survival game in a similar vein, although with a significantly more complex economy and production chains. If you like tinkering, and having to constantly go back and optimize things, you will like this game. If you are more of a build-and-forget type person some of the mechanics may annoy you. I think the complicated production trees are a real positive. They start out simple enough, but as you progress in cycles and need to start building more complicated things (motors, engines, etc) you start needing to keep track of a lot of different stuff. and there is a lot of crossover between manufacturing chains. I also like how as your town grows instead of having to build 12 small workshops to keep up with demand, you have the ability to unlock bigger and more capable buildings that help you scale up while using fewer workers (at the cost of some additional dependencies). I also really like the need to interconnect certain production buildings with conveyors, it means where you locate buildings matters and adds another layer of strategy. As you might expect from an Early Access game, there are a number of holes and rough edges that could use some additional work. The game is not good at explaining how many of its mechanics work, you often have to beat your head against something for awhile to figure it out. I had to constantly reload previous saves because after I spend a ton of resources building a bigger and better production plant I found out it had a number of additional dependencies I didn't yet have the resources to meet. The conveyor system, while cool, is super buggy. Every time I load a new save I have to spend 3-4 minutes deleting and rebuilding conveyor chains that stopped working. A number of other commentators have complained about the dashboards for tracking resource usage and they are in fact terrible. It's difficult to see at a glance where you might be okay or falling behind, and its compounded by the fact that none of the shown values are real-time, the game only tracks what happened over the most recent complete day. It also fails to separate ongoing resource usage (i.e. production or citizen usage) vs one-time events (like constructing buildings). It makes it really hard to see though the noise, especially later on when the number of resources mushroom. In short it needs some work, but underneath a pretty solid game than in its current state is mostly fun but will occasionally lead to steam coming out of your ears. Here's hoping the devs keep working and keep making improvements.

If you look at some of the comments some people may think this game has problems. Well, this 83 year old grumpy geezer has not encountered one. This game is great. good graphics good layouts(easy to understand) excellent drop-downs. Movement in buildings is surreal. The secret on how to enjoy the game is simple. slowly slowly catchee monkey. (AN old British saying. Calm down people). If you play thinking ahead you will enjoy this game. The challenge,s that are given can be won with calmness and thought. I personally have just one complaint< the brown background. People with fading eyesight have trouble with it. Everything begins to blend in. Overall I still have to give the game 9.5/10. Well done developers in giving us old buggers a game we can play.

If you never played Frostpunk - STOP. Go get it. You will fall in love with the storylines, the graphics, the atmosphere. Then come back here after you are done. This is a watered down version of it. Weak story line, choices that kind of do something, but dont really change the game. Also really buggy, but it will get better. The developers are working on it.
