slightly hit and miss in places and a myriad of typos, but repeatedly poignant where it matters. the authors care a great deal about people, and in particular about humans as humans. it writes very lovingly about peoples flaws and knows how to translate the nuanced mask of comedy and honesty into a dialogue format. i was in particular enamoured with the fisherman memory and the ending of the main story. the trope of passing on is handled well. sometimes tries to come across as a bit too profound where it's not, other times tries to use humour as a mask for the ability to just say things it knows are not profound but that it believes anyway, but who cares. the side stories (note: i don't mean the memories with this) did not do much for me.; one of them kind of felt like one big self-insert, which i guess is fine? i don't know, strikes a bad chord with me whenever i sense it. it's really short and it's well-made, maybe a little lacking on creativity and new things, but definitely well-worth your time if you're into this kinda juju. or was it mojo? very tiring to imagine everyone speaking with an australian accent all the time

Original, genuinely well-written, interestingly structured game. It's a 3D visual novel with an associated collection of short stories which you unlock as you progress through the main story. The characters are vibrant, and the dialogue artfully mixes verisimilitude with an unconventional supernatural setting. The intentionally low-poly character models are expressive in a way I don't often see, and the soundtrack is great. The main story is good, but there were times when it felt aimless or a little hollow. In general, I like stories that don't spell things out unnecessarily, but this one leans maybe too heavily on characters cryptically discussing something the player does not fully understand as a way to create suspense. But, again, it's well-written overall, and there's a lot of engaging side-content. PSA: if long meditations on death and mortality make you sad, anxious, or uncomfortable, maybe give this one a miss.

It made me think, it made me cry, it made me laugh. I really love these characters, especially Maddy (and not just 'cause she's transition goals), and I feel like the story here really had good nuance to help flesh them out. Love it

as a Certified Melbourne Hipster Fuckwit™️ who is also a fan of necromancy/the undead, i'm glad this game exists! especially since it's written from an asian-australian perspective and talks a bit about asian-austalian history too. i've finished the main story, i haven't touched on the side stories just yet. it's very much a linear visual novel - more of a film with some interactive parts, there's barely any gameplay but i'm fine with that. i've seen the dev talks and press, already knowing what to expect. the art style is nice too, with unique character designs. the set definitely feels like an upscaled, fantasy exaggeration of a melbourne cafe, which you don't get to see a lot in fiction. i really do like the direction this game was going for. however...i do feel like the writing was a bit clunky. there were great ideas, and interesting worldbuilding, but something didn't really feel right about how it was executed. there were some emotional/dramatic points of the story that felt a bit...sudden? like i was missing the buildup to it somewhere. and characters would have a serious moment together, suddenly interrupted by comic relief. i'm sure the world building gets touched on with the side stories, but believe a main story should have enough context to hold up on its own, without relying on side stories. not a dealbraker to me, especially seeing as this came from a small and new studio. and i'm desperate to see works with genuine australian culture. it's just something to note. overall, i recommend this if you're interested in melbourne hipster culture, gorgeous visuals and all that, as well as a fairly neat story. if not, i think the flaws outweigh the cons. either way, i'm hoping to see more cool stuff from this local studio!
