This is hard, like both hard in difficulty and hard to recommend. It's actually way more tactical and slow than the videos or screenshots might seem, because you can die extremely easy and fast while not having that many movement options, although the pills with different effects make things more interesting. This isn't bad, it can be pretty fun, but GOD are the enemies erratic and placement is just BRUTAL, so many around corners with guns that one-shot you. It doesn't help that the animations of their melee attacks are too weird and bigger than they look. Also this is a try and retry kind of game, but the loading within each death + reset of the music it's annoying. All of this add up really, it is satisfying to beat the levels but at some point the amount frustration of some of them doesn't make them feel rewarding. But I said too many bad things, I think it's easy to tell what are the good ones, the game looks gorgeous, the level designs, the visual effects, the reflections, they all look so good, and with the gore effects when killing enemies it's addictive. Not only that, the music is great, it might repeat songs in some levels but they're so cool I don't mind. It has so many levels, decisions and endings that there's a lot of replay value, a somewhat "free-roam" zone with more levels to find and even mini-games/little challenges to find within missions. I don't know, I really like the premise and base of the gameplay and graphics, but the execution left me with a sour taste, almost making me abandon it. I guess is worth checking out because if you end up liking it, there's a lot to enjoy.

neckbreak, or project downfall ( previous game title ) it is pretty unique and tries out a lot of things i havent personally seen before. this game looks great, i love how it looks, if you arent a fan of the scan lines, or want to change the blurriness, most of it is customizable in the settings. the combat is what i feel like i can only describe as hotline miami combat, but at the same time neckbreak does enough differently ( and keeps the style and aesthetic ) to be considered separate. ( i rlly like the pill mechanic, which is completely optional, we love ibuprofen ) this is one of the very few games where i have purchased the soundtrack, the music fits the game, i couldnt pick better music to be killing nazis to take your meds and turn ppl into bloody exploded slop and points while ur brain makes fun of u

I got this on Switch back when it was called REDACTED. I was really looking forward to picking it up when I got a PC, but it was no longer listed on Steam. Fortunately, it is finally back and more legally distinct than ever, and you should probably just go ahead and get it. It's perhaps a bit janky, here and there (difficulty spikes, agency and impact on story...) but overall just a fantastic and unique experience. If you like Max Payne, Severed Steel... hell, if you enjoy bullet-time games at all, I think you will dig this one. This is one you might run across looking for "boomer shooters" and while it is decidedly not one of those, I think you will still very much enjoy it if you're on that type of a kick at the moment. I think it'd be great anytime, though. Go get this game and record some clips.

Project Downfall, a marvellous little FPS niche-filler from a few years ago, has been forced to rebrand itself to Neckbreak, presumably by malevolent legal abuse from some reprehensible frogman in a business clown-suit. I am forced to wildly speculate this, as at time of writing I have no other public information to go on. There's probably a rolled up stack of unjust Cease & Desist letters stuffed down the developer's throats. I didn't really get John Wick vibes from the in-game character portrait anyway. I assumed the killing rampage was being perpetrated by George Harrison or maybe Lemmy Kilmister, enraged to lunacy by someone having shaved their facial hair. (Edit: Apparently the facial hair removal was part of this recent rubbish, and the player character did indeed resemble the aforementioned rock stars. Still looks bugger-all like Keanu Reeves though.) It's an unhinged psychedelic thrill-ride, and exactly what I wanted from a "Hotline Miami by way of Superhot" when I picked it up a couple years ago. Steeper learning curve than Hotline Miami, but fairly similar in structure and difficulty level once you get a handle on it... This is an outstanding indie game, whatever its title and creative inspirations. Support it as soon as it becomes available for purchase again - Review bombing this Steam listing will literally only harm the creatives, currently getting the results of their hard work f*cked over. Further unnecessary vitriol provided below; Positive review the game if you enjoyed it, condemn whatever shadowy force did this to them, and move on. If this really is all pettiness about the John Wick resemblance in the game's poster art, yeah I can work with that. Keanu Reeves has been a talentless suck-up shill ever since ageing out of his wonderful Labrador Boyfriend personality 20 years ago. Cyberpunk 2077 is a corporate humiliation wearing the face of a 60 year old sci-fi subgenre, flagrantly appropriating the genre name because it's trendy and they wanted that juicy SEO. John Wick's successes come from talent behind the camera and colossal wealth... And borrowing a few experts from great martial art films, I guess. Reeves himself seems like a nice dude, but he could reliably be out-acted by his stand-in. Ownership of Keanu Reeves' appearance must be such a burden, if they've nothing better to do than punishing random indie developers whose product has been on the market for years already. They gonna go after John Woo next, for making action films decades ago without the permission of a licensing agreement to use the name John? Threatening some dorks who made an independent project, because they were earnest and wore your influence on their sleeve, is absolute Nintendo® behaviour. Screw them. Project Downfall (AKA Neckbreak/Drugtake/Shake'n'bake etc.) is incredible, and my open hostility forms its love letter. Pairs excellent with booze & hallucinogens. We can only hope Tarantino doesn't sue Anger Foot next.

The... the game longer exists??? Got a name change from Project Downfall to Neckbreak, and was delisted from Steam... Edit: As expected, there's more going on behind the scenes, because the name change was a conscious decision, and the delisting seems to be something on Steam's end since apparently they didn't put it back up yet. Why any of this was done, well I'm not sure. Of course I still support this game, but I hope soon we are finally able to know why this happened since it seems like for right now, that's being kept secret. Due to the confusion mostly cleared up, switching from a negative review to a positive one.
