As a fan of pharaoh and cleopatra I really enjoyed the game. But it only if you are ready to face gamebreaking bugs/

I grew up playing Pharaoh, Zeus, Emperor, and Caesar, so this game is like my childhood in the future. It's a solid game, and I hope it's not the last one from this studio.

So, played the old Impressions citybuilders and wondering if this is for you? You will likely enjoy this game if, in your experience: - As your cities scaled you found the warehouse controls woefully inadequate, wondering why you couldn't set up explicit routing between warehouses and granaries so you could get proper goods distributions - Once you understood the walker mechanic you were frustrated by the need to carefully build everything around it, invalidating what would otherwise be perfectly viable road layouts in real life, or things like large open plazas - In general you just felt the desire to be able to let your city run without the fear of the random number generator dealing you a bad roll - You liked seeing how efficient you could be with your space and your industries You may not however, if: - You felt like the warehouse controls were just fine and tweaking them wasn't one of the things you enjoyed doing - You saw the nondeterminism more as your city behaving organically - You enjoyed actually watching your monuments being constructed - The production chains and exploring them wasn't one of the game's highlights in your opinion In general I would describe this game as the result of someone playing Pharaoh and wondering why it was that they couldn't be more granular with their economy when they ran up against limitations with the goods transfer system between warehouses or the walker system. Granted, the ability to fine-tune these things in Nebuchadnezzar comes with, you know, actually having to specify how everything works, but personally I find it satisfying when you've got your space utilized properly and your houses well-supplied, and it's nice to just watch the city functioning. Being able to customize the monuments is a very nice touch, although I do wish there were a way to see them actually get built. The monument buildings themselves are pretty cool. There is a pretty wide variety of decorative roads, statues, and gardens you can use to enhance the look of your city and build custom plazas. I can see where some people might think the tutorial levels are a bit, uh, steep, although personally I didn't think they were too bad. Something of a fresh direction for the genre. Keep in mind when deciding whether or not to purchase that this steers heavily in the direction of a true logistics-focused game rather than the old model of a citybuilder built on RNG and partially-obscured mechanics. This comes with micromanagement that some may not enjoy, but for those who enjoy building and fine-tuning a production and distribution system against the backdrop of Mesopotamian cities, it's very enjoyable.

I like This game. A long time ago I played many hours of Pharaoh and Cleopatra. In some ways this is similar. But the differences are in some ways better. In P&C the movement of all the walkers was randomly generated. This this game you define in a simple manner where you want your traders to walk, thus guaranteeing that if you have supplies in your shops they will supply to the houses. In P&C you had to more carefully construct the road system and road blocks to ensure supply of goods. This system is better in my opinion. I also very much like the right mouse button option. When pressed you can select 5 options, Delete objects, build road, build irrigation ditch, build warehouse, build the last object you created which isn't one of the of the previous 4. If right mouse click on an object you also get a menu which allows you to delete it, copy it, delete multiple, copy + which allows you to copy the object as presently configured. For example if you copy a clay pit with the non default number of employees it will allow you to create a similar configured copy of the one you right clicked on. So the right click options are great time savers. The shear scale of the maps are impressive. The learning curve and tutorials are set up at a good pace. You learn just enough in each of the scenarios to learn a lot but not get over whelmed. There are three different social classes in this game. The classes have their own kind of housing and different levels and also need different supplied commodities. Carefully managing these different classes is one of the main challenges of the game. The trading with other cities is easy to understand, and is a necessary part of the game. There is a lot to learn and a lot of fun doing it on all the different maps. I haven't gotten to the warfare yet. but I am looking forward t it. There is a campaign, which is what I am working through right now. but there also stand alone scenarios also. I'm having a lot of fun playing.

I completely understand why some old school city builders may thumb their nose at this game. It is a bit simplified compared to Caesar 3 and such, and lacks some of the polish. Personally speaking though, I'm having a blast with Nebuchadnezzar. There have been a few games as of late that just remake or directly copy some of the classics, trying to cash in on a shallow shell of a past classic. This is not in that category at all. Clearly a labor of love built from the ground up and still growing. Honestly to me this may be the best intro to the genre that exists, being slightly simplified makes it much easier to wrap your mind around before jumping into a crueler experience like Caesar 3. I hope a few more dlcs really build this thing out into a monster of a game, but even as is it is well worth your time!
