A pretty good sim racing game. Not iRacing level of sim, but more than most racing titles these days that are much more 'arcade' style. I am not even a NASCAR fan and couldn't name a driver beyond about the 1990's. I got this almost exclusively for the dirt track content. Short track, dirt track and 'grass roots' racing is under represented in games that focus on the highest level of the sport. I am an old school guy that goes to my local 1/4 mile paved oval every saturday to watch people turn left. My father used to race on a dirt oval in the 1950's. So I would love to replicate that kind of racing more than the Daytona 500. I also like the progression system here that actually feels like a 'career'. If you start in the lower series (dirt or trucks) you can earn offers to single rides in the other series, so you will get a chance to drive more than just the vehicle for your current series. There is a rival system that doesn't really seem to matter. AI does get more aggressive if you drive rough but it doesn't seem to carry over from the post race text exchanges. Dirt racing is a lot of fun and despite being the 'beginner' series, is actually the hardest cars to drive by far. Getting the flick into a corner and steering sideways takes practice and is super hard to be consistent lap after lap. The cars look and sound great. This is a real challenge to race cleanly, but some paint trading is to be expected. Moving into the truck series seems like you just hit easy mode. Glorious grip on asphalt. The trucks handle well and are pretty forgiving of minor mistakes and collisions. A good introduction to paved oval. AI seems a bit too aggressive at times like it's using the dirt track AI. But overall the AI doesn't crash or spin out very often. Once you get to the cup cars, difficulty goes back up as they are very easy to spin, lose the back end, and don't react well at all to even the smallest brush against the wall. Sound is good and the cars look great bumper to bumper. AI is solid, mostly clean racing and few rookie mistakes. Played with a wheel it feels good and holding a line is natural and neutral. I did have to tinker with the brake calibration some but other wise set up took no time at all. Online is a mixed bag. Hard to find a full lobby on an older game, and of course it's often a train wreck of idiots. If you find a good lobby though- the racing is spot on and a lot of fun. You can choose to drive for teams or create your own, which brings a new element of team management and car development. It's not complicated and adds an element of role playing to the game. Car set up is detailed enough to satisfy the weekend shade tree mechanic but not overwhelming to the average person. The default set ups do well enough that you can get by with those if you are a good driver. I've had no stability issues or problems with online play. As a sim level racing game- it's pretty good and if you want realism it's better than most newer titles offer. You don't have to be a NASCAR fan to get good racing out of this game.

This Game is good if you want a realistic game. The easier difficulties are a little to easy so i would suggest using the hardest with no assists if you would like a more realistic version. Being a real NASCAR driver this isn't a terrible game. Would definitely recommend it. Very fun and competitive if you play with friends. One thing that could be better is letting you do self pit-stops. Other than that it is a great game all round.

If you're at all interested in the topic, this is a good middle ground for simulator without going obnoxiously deep, but still having a lot of the tools and situations that a driver would be in (one imagines, anyways). Very fun, lots of options, lots of ways to make it harder or easier, and exciting! If you like watching NASCAR, oval dirt racing, or just wanted to learn more from a more personal angle, this is an easy buy. Runs very smoothly too.

It's been a couple years since the game came out but it's still so much fun! There is so much to do, I haven't tried the multiplayer yet... but the Career mode is actually top. Seriously this game is so underrated in my opinion, it's crazy. :)
