Good typing game, loved the graphics and the lore in this one. Controls are really funky though.

Game is great, different vibe than the first game but with similar basis! it felt easier than the first game (epistory). Some achievements were confusing to get and i got stuck on some textures a few times but you can always respawn! Overall a great game!

This game takes what worked well in Epistory and improves every system, from the depth of the story, to the control you have over your spells, to how much freedom you have during combat... and the result is that doing so exposes all it's flaws. A deeper story reveals how boring the story is. Having more control over spells reveals how terrible typing is as an interface for spell casting. Freedom in combat changes the strategy in combat enough that it becomes less about typing speed and more about positioning, which isn't great for a game about typing. But even with all that, it still manages to scratch the 'typing rpg' itch in a way like no other game save Epistory. So, if you've played that and want more, this game delivers on that. If you haven't played that, go play that first. It's a simpler game, and is better because of it. Edit: The last half / third (not sure, haven't finished yet) feels rushed. The collision bugs that have been present throughout are worse, the game does a worse job at balance, the story progression feels barely connected and the boss fights feel like more of a drag. On the other hand, the puzzle design starts having actually half decent puzzles that make good use of the spell mechanics. Still an overall recommend - just be aware that the experience gets worse in many ways as the game goes on.

Nanotale is an awesome typing game that is at the apex of the typing genre. It's actually pretty awesome to play a game with keyboard only, especially a well made game such as Nanotale. Expect about 6 hours of game play (game can be played offline so my hours show as less). The typing is forgiving and pace of enemies isn't too difficult. Coordinating attacks > typing speed. Awesome game! Picked this up after playing their older typing chronicle game (epistory). This is game is super well done. The fights are fun and the typing doesn't feel like the focus of the game, despite all the controls and fights requiring typing. I really like the combination of spells and the reactions that can be made by typing words. Comparing it to Epistory, this game is more polished and the movement and fighting is better. They are unrelated story wise though, but you get to ride a fox around and type words to uncover the lore of the world in both. However I would recommend Nanotale prior/over Epistory. Epistory had a higher typing speed requirement to complete the story line (awesome but too hard for beginners). In Nanotale, you can get away with a much slower typing speed, and the world feels a lot more alive and cute (there are NPCs you can talk to and side quests to complete.) However there are a few bugs (character gets stuck) but you can respawn using the menu (not an issue with Epistory).

Recommendation : A great typing game with a charming aesthetic and RPG elements. Critique : One of the things that I really appreciate about this game that is better than its predecessor, Epistory, is that there are no achievements or mechanics that require attaining a certain typing speed, nor is a level of typing accuracy a requisite. You are never blocked from continuing the game because you can't quite hit a target number... Where Epistory is a quasi-adventure game, Nanotale is a quasi-RPG. As you explore the world and interact with it, you gain experience, and each time you gain a level of experience, you get a new spell that you can type in combat to achieve some kind of special effect. This leads, in a small way, to a Metroidvania-like mechanic where you revisit areas you've already completed and are able to access things that you couldn't reach previously. As cool as that is, there is very little of that backtracking, and you don't need to do any backtracking to complete the story. There are two ways to unlock abilities, both involving exploration: first, the story advances only when you complete environmental puzzles wherein you must find and step on pressure plates. These pressure plates are linked to magical founts that heal an area of the dark magic that has drained life (and, visibly, color) from an area. You have to do these to advance the game, and each fount that you restore gives you a new spell. The other method is optional: as you wander the lands, you can take naturalist notes on different flora and fauna that you encounter. If you complete all the entries for a particular species, you get a new spell. These are completely optional; you can complete the story without engaging with this naturalist aspect of the game at all. But, being a completionist, I took notes on everything I could find. I amassed so many abilities by the end of the game that I had a LOT of different choices for how to defeat the waves of enemies that assaulted me. More spells = more tactics for achieving your goals. I had so many abilities by the end of the game, that there were some that I still haven't tried!
