Absolutely love playing this game. It's so fun and I love all the puns. Really hoping for more map options so that I don't end up building the same dungeon over and over.

Naheulbeuk's Dungeon Master is a good game. It still doesn't scratch that Dungeon Keeper itch, but you know, it is at least unique in its own right and not going for boring copy/paste. The comedy is entertaining, there is fun to be had designing your Dungeon (more like a tower), it is fun learning the mechanics early game, and there are tons of decoration items to give that dungeon (tower) feel. Some downers for the title are: too much trivial micromanagement, dirty vs clean game mechanic is not fun or creative, traps are useless or unnecessary, awful room quality mechanics, heroes entering the dungeon are boring and can enter on any level, and there are just too many inconsequential game mechanics. However, it is a fun title. There's lots to do early to mid game, but nothing really shines above and beyond, and it gets really boring late game. If I were to rank it, it would be a 7/10 early game, which eventually gets to a 3/10 late game. Definitely worth it to get some Dungeon Keeper nostalgia.

Fun game with potential. Here are the problem bits with the current design. * Editing room layout moves your point of view to the center of the room. This is an annoyance when editing large rooms. (IMO make this an option that can be disabled) * Editing room portions, moving doors, and removing doors when both sides of the wall are tiled as rooms becomes problematic and sometimes forces you to delete one of the rooms to accomplish the edit. * The Campaign mode has several issues including preventing pausing the game while going through prompts and forcing you into purchasing things you cannot afford yet, like placing stairs for the next floor. * Tavern customers seems to remain suppressed even with rising renown, adding all the tavern features available and placing hundreds of prestige items. e.g. renown 10+, 2 sausages, at least 2 of everything you can build, and having 8/32 customers with zero in-line waiting. * All prestige items seem to have the same amount of prestige, less room-specific items. * Frame rate starts to stutter after you populate a full floor, even with a GeForce RTX 4090 on high graphic settings. Tip Place your alarm chickens near doors and stairs. Then build a single guard room that stretches from door to door or stairs. (and/or just use it to fill all non tiled space) The alarm chicken will trigger all the guards you place in the large room. That way they all come running, instead of getting picked off one by one.

The issues I had got fixed. (Old review at the bottom for context) I tested it, and I tested it hard. I really tried my best to soft-lock myself again and I could not do it. While I cannot vouch for every instance of the tutorial (as that would require an entirely new playthrough), I can at the very least say that it is no longer possible to lock yourself out of the tutorial instances I did test (One of them was building the stairs-example that I used in the initial review). The developers have shown that they listen to feedback and fix issues you come across. They just weren't aware of all of them. -------------------- NEW REVIEW: -------------------- The game's campaign tries its best to entertain. The dialogue is whacky and playful, and the theme borders on parody and ridiculing everything you know about fantasy. You will at least get a chuckle or two, and maybe even a good laugh out of it. I find the game fun to play at times, but I cannot play it all the time. The campaign is quite easy and it can feel ill-paced on top of that. It's obviously aimed at a more casual audience. Still, I feel the game's pace can feel very punishing on that same casual audience since they are the ones taking the most time to progress. And here is why: The campaign starts off with explaining some of the basics, which are very important to understanding the game's mechanics. Like how you should keep in mind that every race has their own diet, and that Orc Cooks only make meat, and Elf Cooks only make salads. But after you learn these otherwise obscure mechanics, the campaign/tutorial keeps going and long overstays its welcome. Many of the game's more interesting mechanics are introduced much later into the tutorial/campaign, and it can take some people at least a couple of hours to get there. Especially if you are the type of player who likes to experiment, like: moving rooms around, building additional ones, or edit the ones you have. To remedy this, and make sure the game is more enjoyable for yourself, all you need to be is aware of this issue. The tutorial is designed to just follow through. So just follow the story and try to have a good time there. In addition to the campaign, which most reviews complain about its pacing, there is also a sandbox mode where your progress isn't locked in the same way and you can experiment at your own discretion. So even if the pacing is something you are worried about, know that there is a completely separate mode that does not have this issue. ------------------- OLD REVIEW ------------------- The game has so many bugs that lock you out of playing further, that you are better of playing something else. This game is a waste of your time . One example is that the game frequently blocks off certain inputs when introducing new mechanics. So let's say you unlock the second floor. In order to connect floors, you need a stairway. So everything you could build before is blocked off except for the stairway until you build it. So: 1. You put down the stairs, which is the only thing you can build now. 2. You then see a preview of where it connects both floors. Now, you might be unhappy about the placement for various reasons, one of which is that you might feel like you are wasting space on one of the floors (rooms need a lot space). 3. So you, instead of confirming the placement, you right click to go place it elsewhere. If you do something as simple as this, you will lock yourself out of any further input because, while right click remains as a cancel function, there is still only one button that is interactible. And that button is the "confirm placement" button. And it is inaccessible now because you could only click it while building. Now you need to start over. Further info: I bought the game on release (Nov 15), came across this issue, let it rest for a while and came back at the time of writing (March 19). The bug hasnt been fixed yet Edit 2: I also went onto the studios' official community discord and told the devs about my issues for the odd chance that they had somehow gone unnoticed.

i recommend this game but Not without stating it does have a few problems. I love this genre Overlord , Evil Genius 2. Are some of my favorite all time games where every couple years I install and play a bit. It is fun to build a base defend it and raid with its minions. This game is fun lots of in-joke puns, word play, similar location and character names. from RPG,s fantasy franchise's Books and Games. Many of which I am sure i Missed. I enjoyed the voice acting the story. Much of the game-play was Great. My mistakes were many but nothing that broke my play through ( Wish I realized that my very busy Tavern was full due to people waiting in line to buy drinks earlier and didn't turn half my first floor into Tavern. ) and nothing that wasn't a AHaa that's what they meant moment. Here is my major problem after a 20 hour run through there doesn't feel like a lot of replay-ability. So do I think you will enjoy the game for 1 or 2 run through's of Story and a little sandbox play yes I do. Will it end Up an all time favorite game no I do not. But I will buy any DLC's or a NDM 2 if they keep there quality and fair price up Because I did get my moneys worth. Thank You for reading my opinion.
