Genuinely made me feel like a piece of shit, so the developers achieved exactly what they intended. The first few screams of the girls as I chose to sacrifice them truly rattled me, but later on, when I saw the end goal within reach, I lost any remorse or feeling as I had been engulfed in mania to revive our daughter. The cycle of abuse, the cold and calloused protagonist, the trial and error, and the pain of the homunculi. All of this together creates the tense and manic atmosphere that I sunk into as I binged this game attempting not only get the resolution to the story, but also to dive deeper into the details of the homunculi and the steps taken to get to the end.

"This game is designed to upset and disturb you" And yes disturbing it is. For a while at least. Because after violently slaughtering you 511th victim is starts becoming a slight repetative. This is something you don't mind at the beginning, but then it comes to getting the "perfect ending" or the last couple of achievements, you are going to be bored. However loving everything about it, especially the meta plot-twist kinda ending Hhh, not gonna tell! -------------------------------------------- Achievements/Completionist: AAAARGH *ripping hair from my scalp* Play this game if: - You want to raise beautiful daughters, naaw - You want to murder said daughters (for a good cause! or is it?) - You want to play a different kind of simulation:ish game that will keep you busy and entertained for hours! This is not an easy game to recommend. There isn't a huge amount of content and what there is is a little disturbing. At the heart of it, it's a time and resource management game with a couple of not hugely difficult puzzles to unpick. 8 hours to complete, I can't say I enjoyed it as such, constantly murdering innocent homunculi is actually a drag, but I guess that's part of what makes it good? The story and the grim mechanics make it interesting but you're not going to want to play again. Not one for the squeemish or easily offended. Not one for those looking for a significant time sink. I bought this game many years ago, back in 2019. I would have been about 15 at the time, I am 20 now. I never finished it back then, I wasn't sure what happened. But just recently, I uncovered my old Steam account, and found this game. I was captivated. It was just the type of game I would like, from the looks of it. And I was right. First and foremost, I will start with the simple things. The art style is so charming, it fully captures the atmosphere, and looks fantastic. I didn't even buy the HD version, I am sure that it is even more stunning! The music is also quite fitting, and very good. The shift it makes during certain sequences (avoiding spoilers) really made me unnerved in the best way! Character design is PEAK, and genuinely so unique The gameplay was something I really enjoyed. While I did find the sequences with going to town a little bit repetitive here and there, it was not something that I could not handle. It provided a small break from the house setting and helped to expand the world and it's characters, and that is something I can appreciate. I really loved the amount of experimentation that this game requires of you, as well as how the book is set up to guide you through it. It genuinely felt like such a thrill to try things out and collect the right data. I spent several days at work looking forward to coming home and playing this game for that purpose. The direction of this game is handled so well. I love dark content a lot, and this game really hit the spot. The disclaimer stated that this was based off of real things that the creators had experienced, and I can believe it. The girls in the game display thoughts and attitudes as a result of their horrible environments that really struck a chord with me. With us playing as both someone we can sympathize with, it is a strange, but amazing duality of the player also seeing just how abusive and terrible he is. Especially with the brutality of the scenes where he kills them. I feel the effort put into this. The story as a whole certainly took a direction I was not expecting, but I think that is best experienced if you play it yourself!! I highly recommend.
