I first played this game on the iPad years ago when it first came out. I love strategy and tower defense games. This game is a pure gem, I would suggest starting on hard mode to give yourself a challenge, the computer gives you a tough enough challenge through the different stages. Building up momentum gives your soldiers a moral boost to capture objectives much quicker. Use that moral to help you in the harder stages, you will need it. The soundtrack is also amazing, at least to me! Sadly this game is no longer available on the iPad, so to my surprise when I saw it was available on STEAM I purchased it without hesitation. It's successor Mushroom Wars 2 is on the iPad though. It is filled with micro transactions and ads!! It's clear the developer got greedy after the success of the first game. If you like strategy games I would definitely add this one to your collection. Money well spent!
PS I do like both of them, but if you’re looking for something simple, go with 1 but if you get done with mushroom wars 1 and you like it you should move over to mushroom wars 2 I love this game. I used to go downtown to my local library and play it on my laptop back when the online servers were still up. It’s disappointing that the servers have since been shut down. The multiplayer wasn’t as popular toward the end, so a lot of the lobbies were filled with AI, but I still had a great time playing. Even with its flaws, Mushroom Wars is a fun strategy game that I have a lot of good memories with, and I’d definitely recommend it.
A trip down memory lane, I used to play this all the time on the Playstation 3 back in 2010 It's a game with a short campaign and few options to play with in the sandbox, but in the simplicity is a numbers game that if you underestimate your opponent, you lose everything within the blink of an eye. The characters are cute, but cold, calculating, and ruthless. Each round doesn't take long, but seeing the time limit nearing 0 will often make you question if you could even ever command an army of shrooms and win. The gameplay loop is like an arcade, only the sounds come only when you've painfully wore down a tower and taken it, and yet the sounds never give a dopamine hit, and the enemy never once will give you a second chance to recover your losses in the match. The only thing there is at the end of every game is the proof that you could withstand the attrition, for now, but the war is never over. There are always more mushrooms coming for your towers, your very home. You can't break the cycle of war, you may be able to break the addiction, but the mushroom war will break you, leaving scars that'll never heal
Mushroom Wars is a node-based RTS and defense hybrid. It’s fun and fast-paced, with simple but appealing visuals. The downside is balance. The last level spikes hard, and only one game mode really stays fun long-term. I did finish the final level on Normal, but I almost gave up. Overall, it’s a good pick if you like a challenge or don’t mind leaving a game unfinished. Recommended, but narrowly.
