A very good retro slasher horror game. Puppet Combo immediately manages to pull me into the game with its PS1 style presentation. It’s a pretty solid horror game, although I found the story overall rather average. I especially liked the prologue, as the helplessness of the child creates a much more uncomfortable and eerie atmosphere. After that, the game shifts more into a classic slasher direction, which still works well and remains engaging. The VHS filter gives the whole game a perfect 80s slasher vibe and greatly enhances the atmosphere. The controls also strongly reminded me of old Resident Evil and Silent Hill games, which I really liked.
Murder House nails the balance between slow burn dread and outright horror without tipping too far either way. The storytelling is understated in the best way it trusts you to piece things together rather than spelling everything out. The music especially stands out, doing a lot of heavy atmospheric lifting throughout. Recommended.
