Deceivingly complicated game, it seems simple at first, however the mechanics, large amount of content and randomized stuff gives it great depth. This game is an amazing upgrade to the classic flash games. Right now, the game has 3 gamemodes, separated in: * Campaign (Offense, Mud and Blood 3) has you commanding 6 units, and your mission is to get all of your (living) men from the start of the map to the finish line. The maps, battle conditions and your general abilities combine wonderfully to create a new experience for every player. The units start out inexperienced, however you can ugprade them or specialize them to a multitude of classes, almost making them war heroes. Be careful, if they die, you lose them. FOREVER. * Classic (Defense, Mud and Blood 2) has you commanding 4 units, and you are able to buy as many as you want, including vehicles. The game does have a soft, 6 unit limit however, and exceeding this limit will unleash an unfair wave. If you plan on having more than 6 units, keep some under camnets to hide them. While this gamemode offers the player more freedom, there is no way to actually win, and you'll have to settle with a high score. The units do level up, and there are more types to choose from at your disposal, however they do not gain any abilities. * Classic - Trench Combat: This is an entirely new gamemode, based on the Warfare 1917 Flash Game by Con Artists (ArmorGames). This is the gamemode that represents an all out war more than the rest. You are allowed to have as many units as you want, with no repercussions. Your deck starts out small, however with each victory you will increase the number of units at your disposal, as well as be able to polish it, creating an ideal strategy to lead you to victory. Sometimes, cards can be cheaper or more expensive than they should, or provide you with more units. I can buy 5 frenchies for 1 TP and often enjoy sending them to their deaths. All in the name of freedom. Overall, while the game seems unfair sometimes and it has a little bit of that good ol' flash jank, I always come back to it. Sometimes the death of a favorite unit or card makes me put the game down for a few hours, but I can't stay mad. After all, the war is as brutal to me as it is to the germans.

Just like the old flash games. Wish they would remaster MnB Recon, I think it's still the best one. You can still play it on Flashpoint player.

Its fun and classic mode is a good bit like MnB2 but its got a lot of changes good and bad. Overall I like it but there are some infuriating things about it that I really question. Review is for "classic mode" which plays like MnB2 The good: -Lootable AT weapons you can manually fire -many more weapons and a few more vehicles -a few more buildable buildings -many more map decorations -much larger map (needs a way to zoom out though) -ammo upgrades that give various bonuses -medics and AT can fire a rifle now -M O B I L E A R T I L L E R Y -it is mud and blood The bad: -first and foremost - the 6 man rule. if you go over 6 soldiers on the field and not under camnets, even for a short time, expect to face what is essentially a blitz that spawns right on top of you. Absolutely game ending 95% of the time unless you are well over 6 men on the field. The dev says this is because it is "small squad tactics" but that just does not translate into the game well when the enemy can throw a couple dozen men at a time at you. even a blitz wave of volksturm will have your 6 man squad perma suppressed by bolt actions and unable to return fire. -Your squad seems incapable of shooting out the gunner of open top vehicles. They can shoot out crewmen on AT guns and AA guns just fine but they seem perfectly content letting an MG42 kubel or halftrack suppress and wipe your entire squad, unlike MnB2. Edit: I have found that infantry can shoot out gunners of AT and AA guns but usually only at very close range. Even if they are within their normal gun range they do not like to shoot at them. This whole bullet point is still a huge issue for me. Concentrate fire doesn't even seem to get your squad to shoot at the vehicle or emplacement. In addition ive found that the most dangerous thing to my own M10s is enemy snipers of all things. I have lost too many M10s to just getting sniped which sucks because my own snipers wont even try to shoot a fully exposed guy using the MG on a kubel. -concentrate fire cost 1 TP now -clunky controls that are somehow worse than the flash game. no hotkeys for actions, LMB is used to select and move units -Based on the wiki and the ribbons I've earned, most ribbons seem far less powerful. No more ribbon to make your squad start with M1s -AI seems to use a lot more off-map support. Some enemies have flare guns or colored smoke that they just LOVE using all the time. Makes any defensive structure but the pillbox near useless. -Fire is annoying and has an unclear radius. Soldiers that are near a fire for 3-5 seconds catch fire. -Cannot pause and issue orders. Makes dealing with things like fire or clunky controls even harder -May have still happened in MnB2 but blitz waves before wave 15 absolutely suck. Many of the complaints I've listed contribute to these being basically unbeatable affairs compared to MnB2 and you just have to accept that your average wave count will drop because of it -Soldiers seem a bit to willing to retreat. If 2 dudes die (sometimes even just one) its not uncommon for a couple guys to panic (even if they are well experienced), run out of the pillbox, get killed near instantly, then make more of your troops panic. Repeat until no one is alive. It doesn't feel much like experience prevents panic like it did in MnB2. Brand new frenchies panic at about the same rate as your NCO with 50 kills upon witnessing death. -Every other german seems to have AT and are not afraid to use it. I dont think I've had a front line vehicle last more than a minute before a shrek or faust hits it. Edit: Since writing I have had vehicles do quite well and survive for a good amount of time. I must have gotten that trademarked MnB RNG initially. The m10 is an AT workhorse and I've had good results out of the AT gun as well although both have a bad tendency of not prioritizing vehicles or missing a lot -Building on the last point, AT options for yourself are heavily limited. Due to the cost and survival time, tanks are not practical. AT guns spawn ON the front line for some reason and are nearly instantly de-crewed. Tube launchers usually do not have the range to deal with any vehicles with weapons as they sit outside tube range and fire. Best counters to enemy armor I have currently is hoping mobile artillery lands its shot and keeping 3 TP in reserve for precision arty and hoping the vehicle doesn't move Edit: see previous bullet point's edit, there is some hope in AT vehicles and emplacements Overall I like it because it is a mud and blood game with a defense mode and a good bit of extra content, but some of the game design choices seem to lean too heavily into the "this game will punish you" mentality. Primarily the 6 man rule which makes you have to rely on fragile and expensive camnets to get past wave 50. Will accept non-cheese tips and tricks to deal with any issues I've listed and be happily proven wrong Still happy to play at the time of writing but if I get too many more wehrmacht blitz waves on wave 15 where I miss 3 AT shots on one (of the two) MG34 halftrack and none of my guys can shoot the gunner, may not be worth playing much more.

Mud and Blood is a relic from the old Flash Games days. As such it retains a certain type of charm that I feel many games are lacking. That being said, this game is hardcore and a bit rage inducing at times. Just as the original was. The mechanics are deep enough to the point where strategy has to be employed and all of your decisions matter. However, the randomness that occurs in this game also stays true. Just like the original random events will be the bane of your existence and unfavorable spawns will make you rage. while it may seem that i dislike the game for these reasons, i actually find it a breath of fresh air. Urbz has made something that i dreamed would have been around back around 10 years ago. A game that is unique and has a style set apart from modern games. It's well worth $12 and well worth your time 8.8/10

This is my first time ever playing any kind of mud and blood game and I never expected to get so invested in it. To preface, I've only ever played campaign mode so far so all my experience will be coming from that. This game might be the most immersive 2D strategy game I've ever played. In the game, you lead a squad of 6 poorly equipped american soldiers through the entire war in Europe; from d-day to the very heart of Germany. Your soldiers are much better trained than the average German grenadier but in all missions you'll be outgunned by a ratio of about 1 to 5 so smart positioning of your squad is a must. As your soldiers survive - and many won't - they'll gain experience and you'll be able to level them into one of 10 or so classes, giving them the opportunity to gain better weapons, skills, and experience to combat the enemy and level the playing field. One of my favourite features of the game has to be how the battlefield evolves during a mission. If you kill an enemy soldier, his remains and blood stay indefinitely, no matter how many times you retreat. If you blow up a hedgerow or building, the rubble and debris will persist. This really helps you feel like your actually fighting, since the battlefield will be battle scared and riddled with shell casings, bodies, guts, and bomb craters by the time you finally reach the finish line. I also love how the game lets you actually plan your approach to the enemy. The game has two main map features; cover and concealment. Cover works like in any other strategy game, it gives you a percentage based chance to block an incoming shot. Concealment on the other hand, block the enemies line of sight. This lets you plan your approach, trying to doge behind buildings and bushes until your soldiers equipped with smgs and shotguns can jump out and get the drop on the enemy or jump into cover. Anyway, point is, if you like games like X-Com, or BattleBrothers you should give this game a chance. It lets you use a lot of squad level tactics and experiment with different strategies and builds in a very violent and unforgiving war.
