Pretty good souls like. Have no idea what the hell is happening in the story or the environment so that makes it even more like one. I like the unique mechanic about hardening the shell, although the game can get a bit easy if you know how to use your shell correctly. You mostly just harden your shell to avoid or tank a hit instead of just dodging, it kinda takes no skill. All the classes and weapons are fun (except for foundling). And the cycle gamemode is also fun to play (unless you're the foundling). I think the bosses are cool and fun, although I feel with the hardening they can be dealt with easy. Definitely liked the ice one the most. Pretty fun game, unless you're the founding (don't be the foundling)

I played and finished this game on console twice. I don't leave reviews but when I saw that this game had a Mixed recent score I felt I must leave my take. It's honestly one of the best souls iterations and I often return to play it. I see a lot of reviews talk about the stone mechanics or farming plants too much, honestly it's a bit much to leave a negative review for. The game doesn't force you to farm or play a broken build and the difficulties lay in the fact that failing is so punishing since you have to kill everything again. Having more resources to heal yourself after every enemy killed and brute forcing your way through the game by over farming is a choice. Using the stone mechanics becomes needed when facing more then a single enemy. Boss fights are a learning curve and require near perfect execution like dark souls. I highly recommend it and remember its under 14G storage easy to keep it installed and come back to it if your other favorite games start to bore you.

MS is one of those games with very divisive opinions. You have people who absolutely hate it and some who love it to death. Then there is my personal worry of playing a Souls like game. I’ve completed two 2D ones (I’m not sure if they count) and tried a bunch of 3D demos. I haven’t really gotten into a proper (3D) one. The difficulty of Souls games along with the demo of Lies of P always intimidated me. 35 hours later, I’ve 100% completed the main game including the achievements. I’ve come to the conclusion that MS is a very misunderstood game for various reasons. One of them is the game itself giving a very bad first impression. I felt it myself and I was doubting my purchase initially. The game just kind of throws you in its world with very little handholding or any basic info with how things work or which direction to head towards. The main hub world has many branching paths to the point that you can easily get lost. The game has no map whatsoever, so this is made worse. It’s scary to explore for a bit since, at first, it seemed like there weren’t enough means to heal yourself. And one of the means is coupled with a parry that appears to be very tricky. Then there is the confusing save system where you’re not sure how it works exactly and where you can save at all. After you figure that part out, you start to get worried about respawning enemies just for saving every single time. So those were the early impressions. I’ve noticed that you can pick up mushrooms to heal and they respawn in the same spots you found them. So you can farm them and collect plenty. The parry system is actually easier than it appears and an important element of that is not explained in the game. The normal parry has a very short parry window without riposte. But with riposte, parrying becomes far more forgiving. I read about it randomly on the internet and it made a difference to my play style. The game appears to auto-save often and it saves when you exit the game too. The game just doesn’t mention this anywhere. The enemies don’t respawn as long as you don’t take a sip from a Sester or don’t go to one of the 3 dungeons (the transition from the hub to the dungeons). As for the hub world, it will feel like second home after a while. The lack of maps seems to be intentional and it works with this game if you try to remember your steps and focus on exploration instead of trying to find your next target at the beginning. But if you still don’t want that, the community comes through with sharing maps online and giving other helpful advice. This is one of the game’s biggest faults or strengths depending on where you land. Some people love to figure things out for themselves but for others it feels like work. I fall a bit in the middle and I’m willing to put the effort. Even with all of this in mind, the game could have been clearer about a couple of things. The order of dungeons does matter in terms of challenge even if you’re free to play them in any order you wish. The story seems a bit gibberish to me. While the little voice acting we have is good, I don’t like the style of story delivery here. But luckily it’s not important for this game imo. I’ve also encountered a couple of minor bugs, mainly visual bugs and the enemies (from the third dungeon) like to throw themselves in a death pit on the way back (when you have the gland). Oh, and I didn’t like the 2 achievements where you basically have to finish the game without getting hit. You can save but there is a lot of trial and error involved. What you get in return is a very addictive game after you figure it out. The sense of exploration and going through the unknown in every facet is just great. You can even see this with the items where you are encouraged to try them out before you know what they do and you will get better effects once you become familiar with them. Using harden is genuinely fresh and fun. The parry system has a rewarding feeling to it in terms of assessing the risk involved and what you get out of it. The game doesn’t have a lot of content, it’s one of the negatives by the community but it’s a positive to me. It makes the game very approachable and easier to complete for ones with a backlog. Also, I’m never a fan of games giving you too much of everything but not using even half of it. The amount of weapons, riposte effects, items, shells and dungeons is perfect for me. The game looks gorgeous and atmospheric. I like the UI and the game’s style in general. I’ve also read that Souls fans are harsher on MS because it’s not exactly like Souls games but this doesn’t apply to me obviously. I bought the game with the DLC* on sale with 90% off. This is a great price and 1000% worth it if you like what the game is going for. It’s better to give the game a try (with refund policy) instead of blindly accepting the popular opinion online. *I’ve started the DLC today and a proper review will follow once I’m done with it.

Relatively short game and very difficult. Very well made and beautiful scenery. All of the complaints are by people not adapting to the game mechanics, expecting it to be a certain way... That defeats the purpose of the game. A+ game. I am stuck on the last boss. Don't expect the devs to "fix the parrying mechanism" just because I can't cut it. Very good game, just short.
