Monument delivers a fast-paced, nostalgic FPS experience that brings back the essence of '90s shooters. The game emphasizes straightforward mechanics with a strong variety of weapons and challenging enemies, keeping the action relentless. A unique feature is the teleport gun, adding a layer of movement strategy, which helps set it apart. However, some level transitions could use more polish, and the enemy variety is somewhat limited. Overall, it’s a solid entry for fans of the genre, providing a good balance between nostalgia and modern gameplay elements. Time Investment: 10 hours Completion: 90% Value Rating: 8/10 Stay focused. Keep grinding.

Okay, I will say this from up front: I would only recommend this game either if it is on sale or if you really like old school shooters. I like most parts of the game. I really like the aesthetics of this game and I think for the most parts the maps look pretty fine too. I mean, they are not the best out there, but I still quite liked them. The weapons for the most part feel good too, but I think especially the shotgun feels kinda weak. But I think it is not that big of a problem. But now to my huge problem with this game: The enemy placement and especially the way the enemies spawn in. The enemies just spawn out of nowhere and without any animation or sound in front of you and they instantly start shooting you. And on top of that most of the time there are enemies spawned right behind you too. And since they don't make a sound or animation, you just get hit from behind and loose a lot of health and armor through this. I don't want to sound mean or anything, but that is just really bad game design and the biggest problem of this game. I think otherwise the game is quite good, so if this problem wouldn't exist, this game would be really really fun. But since it got developed by one person, and it is quite often on sale I would still recommend to at least old school shooter fans.

(This review is mixed, leaning Positive only because nothing actively was buggy or broken.) Monument is a FPS game that's designed like shooting games of old, at least it's trying to. With only 5 levels, it's extremely short and also leaves little impression with it's gameplay. However it really seems like this was someone's very first project as well as considering the game came out in 2015, way before the whole Boomer Shooter renaissance in roughly 2017-18. If anything If you'd really need 40 minutes to kill (Ignore the hours I have on record, that was for trading card grinding) then you might find something here. Gameplay of Monument is fairly basic for Retro Shooter standards, you have all the basics. Non linear levels, enemies, weapons, and some secrets. None of these aspects are down right bad or annoying, but they've been done better in other games, even the original Doom did. Most enemies just beeline towards the player like in Serious Sam, though never in the numbers or the enemy prioritization as those games do. Even the flagship teleport gun has been done better since in Monument it's only used for getting places, while in Turbo Overkill they somehow combined a Sniper Rifle, Railgun, and a Telefrag mechanic into a single weapon. The game is it at it's most annoying when you have the projectile lobbing enemies far of in the distance or when it randomly teleports monsters point blank. The final boss in the 5th level is also somewhat lame but that's standard for Boom Shoots so it's passable. Overall Monument was just... okay? I don't wanna be too harsh since it's very clearly a passion and/or first time project but at the same time I've seen better Boom Shoots out there, especially ones that are just trying to copy existing games rather than experimenting along with the existing formula. I think it's cheap price of 2$ and it's even cheaper price on sale is just enough for how much you're getting though all in all, CARNAL is still king when it comes to good Boom Shoots cheap.

The game is very rough in literally every way possible but you can get some fun out of it. It's hard to give it a thumbs down for 2 bucks (or even 55ct when it's on sale).
